Question of the Day: What kind of weather do you get the most often in your country? Please let me know using the weather collocations from today's lesson.
My answer: It depends on the season, but in Toronto since it becomes freezing cold from about November until April, we get a lot of light flurries and heavy snow quite often during that time. How about in your country?
Applause, applause, applause! Awesome lesson! Exciting teacher! Fabulous presentation!
To answer the question, arguably but near the truth, in Tehran, there are four complete seasons! I mean spring is spring not winter, and summer is summer not fall! Fall is colorful with lots of golden-orange-yellow-green trees and wind whistles. Winter is white. spring is full of scattered showers and light breeze. ____ But summer is extremely hot and the sun is like a laser! and a person can be baked or boiled or cooked by the sun in his/her clothes! for women, it is added salt to injury, because they have to put on forced hijab!
PS: Such a beautiful library you have Jen.
Mam. How are you. In my place the major season is summer. Our days are filled with scorching hot. When we go outside it will be soak up with sun. Half of the year struck by pouring rain. Actually I like winter season. We don't have anything like that.l would like to play with snow flakes.
@@afshinbnd7041 Thank you so much for your lovely compliments and comment. ☺️
I have seen pictures of Tehran covered with snow, and I have heard that in the summer it is scorching hot, but I never realized that you also have a fall season with leaves changing colour. By the way, I love your description of the sun being like a laser. 😎Also, great vocabulary with being baked, boiled, or cooked by the sun.
(In the last sentence to make it sound more natural it would be better to say say, "It is even worse for women because, to add insult to injury, they are forced to wear hijab." You have a very rich vocabulary and are very insightful.😉)
@@athiraka5346 Thank you for your comment. Being struck by pouring rain half the year doesn't sound fun, but in Canada we always say that although we don't like the rain, it is good for the farmers. Always think positively 😉 You should come to Canada to enjoy playing in the snow. It's funny though because when I teach international students, they are always excited when the snow first falls...a few months later they all want the snow to melt and disappear, haha. ☃️
@@JeNsJyugyou Thank you, Jen. Because I'm learning English by movies and Robert Greene's great great great books, I'm satisfactory with listening, OK with vocabularies, but terrible with grammar! In fact, grammar is my weak point!
Tehran has become modern with lots of highways and tall buildings in recent past, but the old north part of Tehran, Shemiran, still has a touch of old days, like Aladdin's home-town in the movie, with gardens and colorful Fall seasons among narrow alleys and streets.
And thank you for your correction. It was very useful.
I'm from Sri Lanka and we don't have any snow.
Though you enjoy a snowy winter during winter,we are experiencing scorching sun

I really enjoy these lessons Jen, and my English has improved greatly. Am a Zambian national, and am now able to see a lot of mistakes I've been making in my communication.

Please correct my sentence if I am wrong.
Actually I am staying Toronto now the reason why I study English more and more these days.
I hope you're surviving this terrible cold and snow here in Toronto. 😉
Your sentences are good, but here are a few minor corrections. "In Japan, there is heavy rain in June. After that, we get strong sun and humidity in summer."

By Ruby
Hello Ruby 😁. Thanks for watching this weather collocation lesson and for sharing with me about the weather in Hong Kong 🇭🇰.
Here are a few corrections I've made to the sentences you've written: ✍️
In my country ( Hong Kong), we have four seasons: summer, spring , autumn, and winter.
In the summer the weather is scorching hot. There is high humidity and the air pollution is bad. The temperature is between 32-39 degrees Celsius and sometimes we have hurricanes
In the spring there's always heavy patches of fog, and also heavy humidity.
In autumn the weather is very nice. The temperature is normally around 18-25 degrees Celsius. There is light wind and not too much rain.
In the winter the average temperature is 10 -20 degrees Celsius. If it goes down to 10 degrees you will feel chilly. Unfortunately, Hong Kong doesn’t have any snow.
I hope you'll find these corrections helpful.
Based on some of my corrections I can see two points that may help you. 1) Remember that every sentence needs to have a verb in the correct verb tense. 2) Subject -verb agreement is important. You may find this video I made on subject - verb agreement helpful: ua-cam.com/video/v0E9GfXHcNQ/v-deo.html 🤗
Thank for your correction I will keep to watching your video and practising ( speak , write , read and listen ) hopefully someday I can be improved 🙏🏻
You should have been an actress Jen . Your body language and demonstration for explaning the subject really extraordinary. Thank you for your great effort.
Mostly hot weather observing in our country Bangladesh.
You're an excellent Teacher. Appreciate it
we usually have Extreme Heat or Scorching Heat in Saudi Arabia. I am a Sri Lankan but i live in Saudi so yeah....
Hi Rasha ☀️. Thanks for sharing about the weather in Saudi Arabia 🥵. I really hope you have air conditioning 😎.
You showed up on an add right lol
Iran known as sunny country, in fact, many towns of Iran are suffering from drought, opposite to common English culture, Iranian see rainy weather as a nice weather because most of them have a little snowy or rainy weather in a year.
Hi Morteza ☀️. Thanks for sharing about weather in Iran. Although experiencing drought is terrible, being able to enjoy lots of sun does sound nice.
We have here sri lanka heavy flood

Hi Jen! Thank u for your useful lesson! I have a question. When it is raining heavily now, what is the most natural way native speaker describe it? 1.it is raining heavily now. 2. It's raining hard 3. it's pouring now. Thanks in advance!!!
How so sweetly jen
Thanks, Rasheed :)
Heavy rain😭
Oh, sorry to hear that✨. Hopefully you get the chance to see many rainbows after the heavy rain 😉 🌈.
Due to Madrid´s altitude of 650 meters, temperatures are about 10 + - Celsius in winter and 32+ in summer. The most pleasant weather is from May to July and September around 25. In August temperature could reach 40 degrees sometimes. Snow, on mountains at about 60 kilometers from the city in winter, not as heavy as in Toronto.
JEN, this video is fantastic. I have learned many collocations that even if I knew the words, I never had had the chance to use. Thanks for your excellent work.
Thank you for your sweet comment. I am so glad that this video was helpful☺️ Madrid sounds amazing...in Toronto this past week it went down to minus 19 celsius! 🥶 I'd love to visit Spain in September based on your description. 🤗 🇪🇸

Hello Jen. Your lessons are always useful for me. May I ask one question? It is about "Heavy Rain."
My student wrote like " It was heavy rain yesterday." I said that you should say "There was a heavy rain yesterday." or "It rained heavily yesterday." or "The rain was very heavy yesterday." I didn't know the usage in your video like…"It is heavy rain". Is my student's writing correct? or Is it rather colloquial expression? I'm sorry for bothering you again.
Makki
Hi Makki. ☺️ Thanks for your question. You are correct and your student was incorrect. "There was a heavy rain yesterday," "It rained heavily yesterday," "The rain was very heavy yesterday," or "We had heavy rain yesterday" are all correct.
If it were currently raining and someone asked me, "How is the rain?" Then I could casually answer something like, "It's pretty heavy rain out there, it doesn't look like it's going to let up." But you are correct that it would still be better to say, "It's raining pretty heavily." Sorry if I caused you any confusion. ⛈
@@JeNsJyugyou Thank you for your sincere reply. Talking about weather seems pretty easy, but it sometimes very confusing for non-native speakers. I'm really happy to get an reliable answer from you!!

We have unbroken sunshine and humid weather. from India🇮🇳
Unbroken sunshine sounds great, the humidity not as much. 😉 Thanks for your comment.
Nice
Thanks, Shah 🤗☀️
Very informative. I have just learned some Weather Collocations and out of the blue I came across this lesson on your channel. By the way, is there any significant difference between American and Canadian weather collocations?
And my last question (sorry for taking your time too much). Is the phrase "Run yourself a bath" common over there?
Thanks for you answers in advance, dear Jen.
I hope you continue uploading lessons on collocations as they are - to me - the most important element of achieving great fluency in your target language.
keep up the good work
Thank you for your comment and questions. I will continue making and uploading English lessons every Monday and Friday and will do my best to make another collocation lesson again soon. ☺️I am glad that this lesson was useful for you.
To the best of my knowledge, all the collocations in this lesson are used in both Canada and the United States, although I am not completely sure if they use "hard frost" in the USA. As for "run yourself a bath", I really only hear older people use that expression. Most younger people would probably just say, "You can take a bath." Or when expressing, "I will run a bath for you", most people would say, "I'll prepare a bath for you." I hope that helps. 😉
Hello! ♡
Hello Jessica 🙂
I live in Canada like you and have wicked winters. I really like your bear with the glasses and later the winter clothes. My best season is the fall with the colourful leaves.
You're right we do get more blistery winter weather. Boy why do I live here?
Thank you for your comment. My favourite season is also fall, not only because of the beautiful leaves changing colour, but also because I love foods and beverages that are usually consumed in fall like pumpkin spice lattes☺️ LOL. Thanks for noticing the bear changing clothes along with me to reflect the various collocations, I wondered if anyone would pick up on it. 😉
@@debbiestrickland1420 Also, great comment about the winter weather, haha. At least we have central heating to help us survive the chilly temperatures in Canada. In addition, we also get lovely white Christmases more than others. 😎
Thanks,a lot.
Your collocation lesson is really great.
Thanks, Lionel ☺️. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed this lesson 🤗.
Heavy rain in these days, sometimes like cat and dog!😄 which country’s weather do you like most?
Nice use of both a collocation and an idiom to describe the rain!🌧
✈️ I've only lived in Japan and Canada (visited Taiwan, South Korea, Egypt, and the USA). In terms of places I've lived, I would choose Canada because despite the cold winters, our summers and autumns are lovely (Japan's summers are too humid and hot, and spring and autumn often had heavy rain and typhoons). In terms of places I've visited, I felt that South Korea had the nicest weather (I went for about two weeks in May). How about you?🌸
JeN's Jyugyou / ジェンの授業 I love skiing in South Korea and see snow! I love Traveling to Taiwan and Japan. I am not yet go to Canada but maybe immigrate to there in the future! 😛 I don’t know whether I can endure the coldest winter!
You're into skiing. ⛷ That's really cool!
Well it's not always cold in Canada, so that's a plus. ⛄️ How cold the winter will be depends on where in Canada you go. BC usually doesn't get as cold as Manitoba, for example. In addition, due to central heat the temperature inside is usually very comfortable in the winter...you can even wear a shirt inside despite outside being minus 10. 😉
JeN's Jyugyou / ジェンの授業 I go to Ontario
