Woman of Steam. Simone driving at Zig Zag Rly, 2005.

- Simone was the first woman in NSW and, I believe, Australia to become qualified as a steam driver. She is seen here driving BB 18-1/4 loco, 1072 on the fabulous ZigZag Railway, at Lithgow, West of Sydney. I was lucky to have a cabride with her, and fireman, Colin back in 2005. She is now qualified as a mainline steam driver, to my knowledge, again, the first (I hope of many).

Big smile, love of steam, and a great engineer. Wish women like this existed is the states. That girl is a keeper!
And I gather that us women who are miners are chopped liver then?
Absolutely not I think that’s a good thing; first time I’ve ever run up on a lady miner. I approve of lady miners, locomotive operators, and truck drivers.👍👍.
@diddlebug72 Then it is my honor to be you introduction of woman miners. Thank you
It's really amazing and good to see Women crew working on the Steam Locomotives. In this respect Congrats go out to Driver Simone of Newzealand for her adventerous step.
❤❤❤
Wow I'm loving this. She handles engine very nicely, the sound of the drivers on those grades and corners. Zig zag Railway has an impressive 1072 engine. I've enjoyed it
Amazing. Engine driver is so smart.
Good sister. God bless you more
A very beautiful and talented woman. This brings back a lot of wonderful memories where I was introduced to steam on the Texas State Railroad. I used to be able to ride with the crew anytime but all those connections are gone the memories are still alive and so is my love for steam.
Nostalgic trip. Reviving my childhood memories. Superb.thanks 😊.
The USA has had many lady locomotive engineers in our modern diesel era. I worked with a few of the ladies on the Illinois Div of the Santa Fe Ry. while working as conductor starting in the early 1970 era. One became an instructor. She was a very good engineer. I don’t know of any steam qualified, although watched a video of a very lovely lady running a steam loco here in the USA on a tourist line.
You might be referring to the Chehalis Centralia railroad in WA State. Check out their video "Running around the train" to see her.
@@LeeJack3939 yes I think it was. Been there just once about 2005 on NRHS excursion trip. Thanks!
Her name is Rikki she now operates in Colorado
In Ukrainе
Only one lady is engeener.
But it's industrial electric locomotive.
Thanks for the great video, and to see a young lady driving. What a buzz. 1072 was built by Walkers Limited, Engineers, Maryborough Queenlsand in 1956. The locomotive was of modern design with roller bearing axles. It ran on the Queensland Government Railways system till March 1970, and when retired sold to the Zig Zag Cooperative Railway, Lithgow and named City of Lithgow. Most of this class of engine (55 in all) were painted green in their service life, but 1072 was fated to be painted black around the late 1960s and appears to retain that colour on the Zig Zag.
Great video. I'm glad to see the young woman doing a good job.
I fully agree!!-t.c. tim
An absolutely superb railway line in an exceptional landscape. The locomotive is very beautiful, but the woman steam engineer even more so. All the feminine charm, with that dazzling smile and of course a perfect knowledge of the trade: a smooth docking of the oar, the throttle handled with precision on this line with its severe profile. Congratulations. Well done Simone.
They should not let women work on steam rail. It's too dangerous. They will be chatting about babies and dresses or some crap, and then go through a red signal or let the water get low and cause a boiler explosion.
@heelfan1234 How sexist you are, anybody can talk about babies, dresses, etc, womon can do what they want and can do anything a man can do.
That’s just a tad bit sexist… I’m sure many men have caused rail accidents while oogling at some lady or chatting about something other than work. I’d be happy to see more women involved with steam. It’s an already dwindling occupation, and keeping people out who are willing to help bring it back is foolish. Discrimination rarely aides anyone

Yah boy! Lots of train wrecks from the past by fellows too!
it took 15 years for this to be uploaded on the internet... but I'm glad it had anyways.
Soon this may not be a memory anymore as the ZZR is getting closer to running trains again. I hope to see this railway running well into the future.
Iv subbed to ya
@@MasterMoyle thanks a lot mate :) your help is greatly appreciated for making my content
Женщины на любом месте очаровательны, ведь они могут всё!
World needs much more ladies like her...Thank you.
She is not afraid to get her hands dirty she would had to do the hard yards as a firemen good on her keep up the great work she must be very proud.
Boa tarde amigos..
Beautiful RR and a great job running it by Simone. Scenery is awesome.
as beautiful as the driving machine, congratulations!
Simply a sweet video. Combining the exquisit steam sounds(I recommend head phones) and an experimented girl who loves her seat at the engine. Thanks!!
Es excelente ver que una mujer opere estas hermosas locomotoras.
I always wonder how can a person drive a train facing backwards??
You can be anything you want if you put your mind to it .woman of steam love it
Another trimendous video of a young girl operating the steam engine, she really knows how to operate this big steam engine, l say well done to her (keep at it and enjoy every minute of it) P S ,many thanks to everyone who made this trimendous video 👍👍👍.
For too long the footplate has been seen as a man's domain. Good to see the young lady in the driver's seat. May I say that she is far better looking than any driver I ever fired for.
OH SO GOOD
great footage
Thanks, Paul.
Wow. The scenery is spectacular.
É muito lindo ver uma garota comandando essas velhas tecnologias, que era antes dominio total masculino. PARABÉNS MOCINHA.
As much as the woman showing her strut with that engine was swell, that wasn't the best bit for me. The best bit was the beginning shots, where she had presumably her close family with her on the footplate of the engine; not just travelling in the coaches. And done professionally. Such a small detail actually shifts this from being just a capture of trains to a capture of an experience of a lifetime. Regards, Samuel Farris.
Super Video, thanks!!
Great video😎👍 thanx.
Great work, you must feel so confident and proud I do envy you I love to have drove a steam train.
Very nice 👍💕 interesting
That’s the best ride I ever saw
Never seen that headlight placement before in Australia, very cool!
And there is also that sweetie little girl in the cab...i worked in signal boxes and was commuter trains lady driver in germany bavarian and alsace france...it were good times🚂🚃🚞🚋🚌🌏🌎🌍♥️👠👠💄👭aussi cette belle petite fille...moi j'ai travailee comme poste d'aguillage et regio train conductrice en l'allemagne baviere et france alsace.
Wow! I didn’t know that sydney had a u.s 6 chime!
I believe it was from a South Australian 600 class.
@@BelbinVideo oh
Excellent 👍
Nothing makes me happier than knowing girls like this exist
WHOO Hoo hooooo
❤
Felicitări Simona )
Great video, wonder if she ended up with Pacific National? Lot of women drivers with Pacific National these days. Watched a good video of a lady driving the Shinkansen in Japan, very professional she was. Also women started driving suburban trains in India in last few years which was strictly and culturally a male domain. Thanks for the enjoyable clip.
Yeah only reason Pac Nat have more women drivers is because of nonsensical gender quotas - Like every major private and public sector organisation that's been infiltrated by the feminazis!
@@mb3558 Bingo!
I believe she is with one rail now
I watched it all for the knocking sound of the cylinders
The Baldwin loco has a really nice sharp crip note. It has magnificent echoes off the sides of the cuttings
It's not a Baldwin.
Just love that girl train driver
it's easy to see why she's grinning from ear to ear most of the time. i would be, too.
Aslmlkum wr wb purwokerto Indonesia hadir mnyenangkn sekali looh luar biasa yg achli merawat kreta kuno pdahal merawat hal yg sngat berat wah ! luar biasa
Would have loved to see an interview.
Now retired steam locomotives are at rest in York museum.
Super mon époque Nostalgie

looks all nice and tidy up there
Good work and looking lovely lady
Fährt Simone auch in Europa oder nur in Australien? Das Video ist super

Какоя чумазенькое личико шофера! Красотка однако. Люблю смотреть и слушать как работает пароход,это его чух-чух,пых-пых. Завораживает.
Wonderful Woman.👍
Super Woman Simone The Best
Love that Rx whistle.. gives an air of authority! Sorry, it's an SAR thing.
Don't apologise, I love it, too.
Fantastico bellissimo con le donne macchinisti😍😍😘😘😘😃😃😃
If 1072 ever runs again, lets hope that it has a proper QR chime whistle!
Seruuu bangt 😍😍🥰👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏💪💪
Oooh. Steamy women. That is great.
Goodness lady..... You're driving the train backwards. This means you are taking us where we headed from instead of where we're headed to. See, I told you never to let a woman onto the footplate, especially when she looks like my mother. She is outright dangerous just driving a car forwards, let alone a train in reverse. Shocking. Absolutely terrible. Now everything I have told you so far is a load of rubbish. I just felt like being long winded to tell you that I love the sound of that whistle on that locomotive 😜
Me too.
Bela maquinista , e manda muito bem 👏👏👏👏👏
Reminds me scenes from von Ryan Express. Lol
Very cool I like old Is Train
1072 ahhh black Bety. let's hope she returns to steam soon.
nice mountain women loco driver
👨🚒👩 como trabalho em excelente trabalho Deus abençoe vocês no trabalho aí
That cool
Quite alright !
В России во времена второй мировой войны на паровозах работали женские бригады.Они были молоды и красивы Водили военные эшелоны с техникой и солдатами.
Не в России, а в бывшем СССР.
IM learning about it
How much does it take to get a D49 Class

Так понимаю это туристический маршрут,а девочка молодец!
Bom dia família 🇧🇷👍
Супер.
La chica es buena conductora de tren wao
Do they have 'deadman's handles' on stream engines?
No.
Would be good to return to working on the footplate again but other commitments sadly come first. However I did get to fire once at Ribble.
Oh iv subbed too.
At one time women weren't permitted to drive any trains in Australia, it was strictly a mans job! Not now, women drive drains in Australia! Well done keep it up Simone!🚂😀
After eighteen minutes and fiftyone seconds I can't make up my mind ~ am I smitten or jealous? 🤔
even with my bad back, i'd be willing to fire the boiler for such a lovely engineer!
If a man can do it , then so can a woman! There is no reason for them not to. I have worked with many female truck drivers and equipment operators and they usually do their job equally well if not better. When loaded they give a pretty smile or a wave while men just blow the horn. Go females, the world is also yours.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
😉😉😉👍👍👍😊😊😊
Thankfully all has been restored after the devestating fires and the Zig Zag is back in 2023
The realy lovele ट्रेन
Australia women pf the Year recommendation
If you were my granddaughter, my shirt buttons would be popping off way to fast.
I wonder what she's doing now at days? Still driving trains?
Yes. Simone is now driving steam trains around Sydney and Maitland NSW. She is apart of The picnic train and gets involved in all the steam action around there.
What s with trains moving backwards I don t get that
They are often required to move backwards and can't be turned easily. This is a zigzag.
Delighted to see a woman driving a steam locomotive with such ease. I wish I could grab a cab ride with the lady on the mantle and me with my camera. In India steam engines in the railways are absolutely extinct nowadays. We have many women loco pilots and assistant loco pilots as they called driving huge electric and diesel-electric locos. All loco pilots have to be technically qualified and have to go through stringent selection processes before they are admitted for training. I suppose the same in Australia also.
Beautiful girl beautiful driving rail engine
最高だね!
American style locomotive
go girl go you got this
I would like to see her take a crack at driving 4014
If you listen these trains talk to you, tell you what to do next
That comes from a mechanic I am sure, same said in airline industry especially with piston engines. 👍🏻
Could she drive a left hand NSW loco??
Yer I know we had right hand drive as well!!!!!
Lester, as I mentioned above, she is now qualified as a mainline steam driver so yes, she can.
@@BelbinVideo Graeme it was just mischief on my part, my congratulations to her. Live steam models have had their share of the fairer sex driving for many years.
And in 2020 she is a regular driver of 5917 on the Picnic Train between Sydney and Kiama and at other times she can be found driving diesel powered coal trains in the Hunter region.
That not the spiffy
Ze genoot. Begrijpelijk.
Tooonish rooolish 2 good
I must be her co driver to enjoy such a beautiful train journey full of pleasure, to assists hmmm
The horrible whistle growling like a ghost
What happened to 1072's poper whistle?
