Hey hey! Sorry for the late response to your comment. I'll tell you, I love shooting with a wide-angle lens for events. It can help create diagonal lines that draw attention to the center of the shot (if you're close enough) and make the images more dynamic. :)
@@JohnIvoryMusic A wide angle lens causes too much distortion, and can exaggerate the features of the subjects you're trying to capture. 35mm is fine, but anything wider than that and you'll exaggerate the subjects features. Not to mention that the wider you go, the more everything looks smaller. I always have my 15-35mm with me for when I want to capture the venue, or special shots with groups, but it's a horrible choice when you can use something much more versatile instead like a 24-70mm. Then you'll have the range to get in closer and isolate someone or a small group, and go wider if needed. I personally have a 28-70mm that stays on my lens 90% of the time, and the other 10% of the time it's my 70-200. The amount of times I have to go wider probably wouldn't even make up for a full percent considering photos taken.

No, you said it's your "lens of choice." Which, I'm sorry, but is just... Well, the only reason you said that is because you were sponsored. If it is your lens of choice for events, that's fine. Do you. But trying to convince others that they need to buy a wide-angle lens for events that will be their "go to" is just dishonest. Most photographers would tell you you're crazy, but I don't think for a second that you're using a wide angle lens as your primary for events. If it is, you're missing or screwing up a ton of shots.
It is great that you touched on the psychological side of things! Approaching people with a smile... Sounds really obvious but I'm sure I wouldn't think about it🤣
Excellent tips Jessica,i didn't get bored watching you talking,i can tell you like what you're doing...I'm going to events with my Fuji 16-55 F2.8 which has the same fov as 24-82,i found it more versitile

What do you have against fire extinguishers???? :) :) :) :) :) personally, I look to add some sort of extinguisher in every shot I take. It's my signature!
Hey Jessica, Would be nice to know if the camera is ff or a crop. Cause I don't think 17-35 is a good choice for event photography on ff. Lens like 24-70 provides a lot more versatility.
Paweł Zarzycki rarely in event photography like she’s describing are you going to need a medium telephoto range like 70mm. Having the ability to get groups of people together in the frame with an extra wide angle lens is far more useful.
@@bobrob8839 I would rather have the possibility to shoot group shots + dancing + portraits with my 24-70 than only have wide shots with 17-35. Are you going to shoot close-up and detail with it too?
@@mathewshoyt1763 lol Im laughing here thinking that you might be a Bad photpgrapher since you call the kitlens a Garbage lens in which actually is A great lens to have, Just add an external flash with it and you already have a Very good lens. Kitlens nowadays have a Vr (vibration reduction) and the autofocus Is fast, has multiple mm's for wide and also mid range zoom. Calling Kit lens a garbage lens means you are the one who's actually garbage, period.
Sometimes I would totally agree with you! It truly depends on what you're shooting and how you want the finished image to look. In shooting events, it is great to have a wide variety of lenses. I love primes (who doesn't?), but sometimes the versatility of a zoom is AWESOME.

2 camera setup with 2 primes,typically 24mm and 50mm or similar or 1 camera setup 24-70 is your best friend
I love zooms for versatility in event photography (especially if you don't have a ton of lenses with you)!
