For our 4th lesson, we continue our look at atrial and junctional arrhythmias.
We start off talking about one of the most common arrhythmias that you will come across in your patients, which is atrial fibrillation or afib. We give you some of the basic info that should help to identify this common but potentially serious arrhythmia.
From there we move on to talk about atrial flutter or aflutter. We explain and show how this differs from afib and give you some pointers and criteria that should help in its identification and differentiation from afib.
Lastly, we talk about our various junctional rhythms that you will see. We explain about where a junction rhythm comes from, as well as what are its unique and defining characteristics. We also talk about the different variations of junctional rhythms, including accelerated junctional and junctional tachycardia.
Hopefully by the end of this lesson you will be able to easily identify these 3 arrhythmias and be able to know the key characteristics to be able to tell each of them apart from one another.

Thank you guys so much for watching! Please leave us a like if you enjoyed the video. We truly do appreciate it! Also we love hearing your comments so feel free to tell us what you think of the video. We hope that after this lesson, you will have a good understanding of the main types of atrial arrhythmias and junctional arrhythmias. Aflutter and even more so afib are some common rhythms you will come across in your practice. The junctional rhythms are less common, but we hope after watching this lesson that you will be able to identify those key characteristics and feel more confident in being able to identify this rhythm.

This is well detailed and easily understanding. You are better off than my lecturers. They complicate everything combined. I am no more scared of ECG. Thank you very much. I am grateful to Holy Spirit of God Almighty for taking me to your channel. I was devastated confused and scared if I will ever know ecg but after praying to Holy Spirit to wake me by 4am and teach me ecg. He woke me up that time and took me to your channel. I am no longer scared of ECG. Once again more knowledge to do more I pray Amen.
Amen!
Eddie, thank you for making these! They're really well done refreshers, and I've been inviting coworkers over for post-work beverages... And turning these on. They say they hate it, but they keep coming back, and I've seen a difference in how we approach cardiac issues (surgical/trauma... We need all the help we can get)! Thanks so much.
Haha this is awesome! I'm glad that you guys are getting value from these videos! I'm humbled to be able to help out. I also started out in surgical/trauma ICU before eventually moving over to the CVICU. Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave such a great comment! Look forward to hearing more about these adventures! 🙂
eddie, kudos for unselfishly educating younger nurses thru your videos. cant thank you enough, I understand your vids better than anyone else!
HaHa! And, older nurses! I'm 59 and learning sooooo much...I'm a new ER nurse and just love everything I'm learning here.
I literally cannot thank you enough for these. I'm 4 videos into this series now, and as a labor and delivery nurse who wants to specialize in our OBICU, I am currently in an arrythmia class. I've been in obstetrics as a post partum nurse and have my ACLS and PALS as well as my NRP, but this is so much better for a visual learner like me. The colors, the drawings, the sample EKGs, chefs kiss. Well done friend. As one nurse to another, I commend you and I hope I can help others with this info as well!
Wow, so great to read this comment Gina! I actually used to work with a nurse who came from OBICU to our Trauma ICU and she was a fantastic resource. Really happy to hear my video style spoke to you and you found it helpful.
Eddie,
You are simply a genius nurse. You are my Google .
Haha, video Google for ICU stuff. I like it!
I appreciate the lessons you've provided on ECGs. As a RN for almost 20 years , I am transitioning from MS to Step-down and need this education for my new role. Well explained, great job and thank you for sharing!
Awesome. Congrats on the transition and happy to be able to help. Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m a new grad ICU nurse I seriously appreciate these videos
Your videos always seem to help me understand these complex subjects. Thank you for making these videos!! - new grad nurse
I have learned so much more in these videos than I do in all of my RN school lectures combined. You really break everything down nicely. Thank you so much for this content.
Awesome man! Great to hear this. Happy to be able to help!
So helpful, i love your choice of topics. Covers all the basics,
i will indeed donate as a token of appreciation when i start earning, hopefully soon.
though i have a long way to get there.
Thank you so much Khan! I really appreciate that and the kind words. Happy to be able to help!
Hi Eddie, thank you so much for all of your hard work! I am slowly making my way through your videos and they have been so incredibly helpful!
Yay! So happy to hear this Katelyn! There are a lot of them for you to work through, haha. Glad to hear you are enjoying them and finding them helpful!
Thank you so much for creating a wealth of information for others!
I can’t thank you enough for these videos.
I finally found someone to teach EKG the way I understand. The way you explain what is electrically happening with the SA node for it to create the AFIB strip for example, makes us paint a picture of the situation and correlate this picture with the EKG line. Thanks you!
Really glad to hear this video was what you needed!
Very helpful. Thanks very much.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Eddie, Thank you so much for all your hard work and excellent presentation. You do not have an idea of how it has increased my understanding and confidence in my ICU practice.
This is so awesome to hear Jefferson. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment!
Thank you again.. I’ve been watching your videos over and over..your videos and the way you explain is very clear and easy to understand…please make videos .thank you for your hard work.
Truly my pleasure! I will certainly keep making more!

Great to hear. Thank you Ely!
ECG strips made simple, thank you!
Thank you
Thank you, this has been very helpful
I found these videos series very interesting and educating, so thanks.
Awesome!
Thank you, Sir!
This lesson has helped me understand how to diagnose Junctional rhythms.
Awesome to hear!
Your discussion is very easy to understand. Can you discuss the coronary artery diseases
Thank you for making these videos. I’m a student major in medical examination. The ECG/EKG bother me for long time. And your videos clearly delivered the central knowledge to differentiate the character of these syndrome. BTW, i subscribed.
This is great! So glad they were helpful for you and thank you for taking the time to leave such an awesome comment!
Great video! I found it very helpful.

So great to hear Sahithya! I'm really glad to hear that this video was helpful and that you liked it. Thank you for leaving a comment!
thank you, you made it understandable
You're welcome!
Hello,
Thank you for a well-made educational serie about arrhythmias. Is your example of atrial flutter 2:1, indeed a 1:1 as only 1 P-wave is identifiable, and the ventricular responds corresponds to proposed atrial rate of flutter i.e. 250-300.
Regards
Thank You Sir!
You are very welcome RV! 🙂
it;s a excellet video Congratulation !!
Awesome. Glad you liked it!
thanks.
Thanks!
Thank you so muhc for this Gladys!
How would one differentiate from an "atrial fibrillation with a slow ventricular response" and a "junctional escape rhythm" or "junctional bradycardia"? It is my understanding that you can still have a junctional escape rhythm with R-R irregularity (synonymous to a sinus arrhythmia).
Good video ! Quick question , when you do a 12-lead on a patient, which view do you look for to see an arrhythmia? thanks !
Thank you so much it was really useful
Allah will bless you brother 🌺👍
Thank you so much Ali!
So nicely taught 🙏
Thank you!
Very good explanation
Thank you!
Great content. Your knowledge level and the gift of systematic material explanation is very impressive. I wish your channel the best. Sincerely, Your New Subscriber
Thank you so much Arina! Welcome to the channel!
Great!!! I have an exam tomorrow and too lazy to read... this video does justice
Hopefully it helped!
👍👍Excellent !
Many thanks!
How do you know when it is A fib, with rvr ???
Hi there, is there a video somewhere explaining AFIB RVR something that comes up a bit in ICU, thanks
Not yet, but I'll put on the todo list!
Hi Eddie, I’m a teenager and I went to the doctor and took an EKG (for chest pains) he said my heart was normal, for the past few days my heart seems to skip a beat. Do you know if it’s a real problem or I’m just worried? Thank you!
The beat skipping happened a few days after the ekg.
Thanks for sharing. It's impossible for me to be able to know. I'd trust what your doctor is telling you. If you keep having an issue, certainly make sure and tell them.
AF one looks like flutter only
In the heart picture, I noticed that the mitral valve is not a bicuspid.
Oh yeah, the videos are awesome!!!!!
Thank you! I appreciate that. 😊
As for the mitral valve, the drawing just has 2 flaps (leaflets) on it... ? 🤷🏻♂️
Are you sure you haven't confused the mitral valve for the semilunar valve in the pic?
they should rename atrial fibrillation to atrial chaos.
Not wrong
@@ICUAdvantage and they should rename V-fib to V-cha, ventricular chaos
Kindly stop using colour red while explaining, you can use even yellow instead.
Na, red is fine. Also, you're commenting on a 4 year old video, it's unlikely he'll see this.
