Tourists are super welcome in our city but long term foreigners should reconsider the negative effects that it brings to our beloved Porto; gentrification is a massive issue that affects most locals. Thanks for your attention.
Dave! I remember stumbling upon Espaço 77 at an ungodly hour after flying into Porto from Australia. Practically a 24 hour journey. One of the best bits of luck in my life. Another time - my very first time in Portugal - I needed emergency treatment at Sao Joao: World class medical care. It made my trip. God, I love Portugal.
Glad you enjoyed it, you are welcome back whenever 😄
Hi Dave I agree. I have been going once or twice a year since 2015. I will be back again next month for a couple of weeks. And again in late September. It's an amazing place. I love the people. The vibe. Everything. I should travel to other countries but I just don't want to.
Love Porto and very much love the sweetness of the Portuguese people 💕💕💕
💖
❤
I’m back from Portugal with my own series of videos and yes, I agree with you. Porto is my favorite city in the world.
I came back from my trip to Porto last week and even though it was raining at times i thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the City! I will defo be back at some point 🇵🇹
Great stuff, man! Wonderful to see you in this magical city that we call home. - Josh & Kalie
Thank you guys again for the invite!
@@DaveinPortugal Our pleasure! - Josh & Kalie
As the son of a beloved Portuguese born mother.
I always adored Lisboa since I was 5, now going on 58 😂
I went to Porto in 2019 for the first time in 20 plus years.
And I was totally blown away by its beauty, architecture, location and simply everything about her was perfect!
As a Portuguese national (citizen), I am seriously considering in buying a flat or small home around the Braga area.
Dave, great video! Obrigado querido amigo!!!
Muito Obrigado! Braga is beautiful
Dave you are blessed for living in our beautiful Portugal 🇵🇹 thank you for taking us along🙏❤️
I sure am. Surrounded by wonderful friends and family 🙏🏻💞
Really looking forward to visiting both Lisbon and Porto on a trip to Portugal next week! Porto looks like an amazing city.
I just watched this video and it has just made me even more excited about my trip to Porto this coming October.
🤩
I also planning Porto in Oct. from Hawaii. I’m Portuguese and looking for my family names there. Which tour agency are you using.
@@TerrieEasley I'm not using any tour agency. I'm from the UK and just booked flights from Edinburgh. I'm travelling to Lisbon, staying there for 4 nights and then travelling to Porto to stay there for 4 nights before flying homr to Glasgow.
AHHHH... my adopted hometown. You got some great fisheye views at the beginning of the Douro =) Best wine, best views, best old world feel !!!!
Your pronunciation is clearly getting better! Hope you can visit Barcelos (1 day is more than enough). Keep posting videos❤
🙏
We took your advice and booked The Yachtsman for a tour of the Douro River. Fantástico!
As it turns out, my husband and I will be moving from Philadelphia to Porto and settling into our apartment in the Bonfim neighborhood in late July. We have been planning this for nearly two years and cannot wait to make Porto our new home.
Heading on the Grand Tour of Portugal in September! Can't wait. Awesome video.
Ola Dave. We moved to Porto two years ago this month from Seattle, WA and we are so glad that we did. We thoroughly enjoy your videos. Even though we've been herer two years, I am still finding things (and places) to love about Porto. Barb in Portugal
Is it rainy there? I’ve heard it’s like Seattle. True?
@@amitsarma1in winter and autumn, yes. Spring and summer are sunny constantly
You are definitely one of the best describing our country and this depiction of my city as made me proud.
I really like the way you also give voice to the locals. Not many youtubers do that and the insight a local provides is much more interesting because they do know what it feels to live in the best city of the world.
It is understandable that most places shown are more targeted to tourists and not so often visited by locals. We have our own secret spots for amazing food and enjoy our time. Not "hunting" for them actually helps us preserve our identity and culture. So thank you for that.
Thank you Cesar 🙏🏻
He's actually ruining your country for local people. How can you support this? And I'm ruining your country by clicking on this marketing cr_p.
Thank you for this content as always. One of my best school friends, he and his family are from Porto and they are like a second family to me. Great people.
Enjoying your content as I type. To give some context I was supposed to move last year, didn’t happen but hopefully this year it will. Never easy with a family of 3 kids. Your videos keep me going…
Always appreciate the support Rem! Hope you make it to Porto 🙏🏻
Love Porto lived 6 years there and enjoyed every second of it
Dave hope you stay there and enjoy as much as I did as a Portuguese
Porto should be on everyones list of cities to visit!
Couldn’t agree more 😍had 4 amazing days in Porto ! Couldn’t have loved it more ❤
This is an excellent video - on Porto, food, living, and mental health. Thank you, Dave. Keep up the good work!
Thank you 🙏🏻
I just got back from Porto and would agree! This city is amazing! Loved it!
One of the best videos about Porto I´ve ever seen. Very good job!
I'm originally from Lisbon and after visiting Portugal countless times over the last forty plus years, finally got to see Porto last year. I have to admit that it was actually pretty nice. Would definitely visit again some day.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! só agora???
@@CarlosPT-hb6zb Lisboa é muito longe e o Porto ainda mais
We went to Porto last year. Such a great place! Someday I would love to live there.
Left Porto many years ago... I still visit it from time to time but it's not the same.. the old times will never come back... I can only wish that the future stays bright... Porto is more than a place... it's a sentiment... There aren't many with such a raw soul. Invicta
Where to start with this video: 1. I LOVE the shirt you're wearing on the boat, 2. Yes to the COFFEE!, 3. Lake Tahoe for the win, haha! (formerly from N CA).
One thing you have to try in Porto is the Porto croissant made with brioche and brushed with a lightly sweet syrup. Man, I dream about that all the time and can't wait to get back to Porto to enjoy one again. It was my favorite treat from Portugal - even more than the pastel de nata if you can believe that! So good! Thanks for the video!
I am from Reno Nevada I retired from working at the Eldorado for my last job I currently live in Cuenca Ecuador. I always enjoy your videos
Thanks for watching! Love Roxy’s
@@DaveinPortugal Its nice I will tell Jeff you love it
What a wonderful video my friend! Once again ❤
Thanks for being apart of it and bringing awareness to very important topics
Love Porto❤. Cannot wait to visit my husband”s homeland again next year
Porto 💙
I lived in Vila Nova de Gaia many years... i am away 6years now... i miss Gaia and Porto every day... i love to travel there... SAUDADE
Porto have been a joyful place to visit and the people are beyond lovely
Hola from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 I'm Portuguese and was in Porto this March for only 3 days and loved it and will definitely be back. Excellent video obrigado Dave.
Like always, it's a great video. Thank you for sharing!!
Hi Dave! Really loved this vid. Your content is always so heartwarming. You always give voice to local businesses and that is amazing. I'm from Porto and it's so lovely to see my beautiful city through your eyes. Can't wait for the francesinhas video. My fav is from Yuko Tavern :)
I'm from Porto. Nice work dude! 👏👏
Thank you for the support and kind words 🙏🏻
Thanks Dave for a great video! Can't wait to visit.
Videos like this reinforce I made the right choice to buy a place, in Gaia, for my retirement. I always feel like "I won". 😊
Great video as your other videos I loved it, I am Portuguese born in Porto, living in N.A. Longing to return to Porto, thank you
Thank you for this video Dave! Always suberb quality content
Your portuguese is becoming better and better and we can see the effort you have made in learning it :)
Thanks for bringing out the best of Portugal❤
LOVE PORTO
I’m also a big fan of Sintra
Being from Chaves, I've been to Porto several times and love it there!
I love that you continue to enjoy my country with excitement and pleasure, and making videos about It to spread the word in the world.
It’s a beautiful country with a great culture, amazing food, and very nice people! I say… Enjoy it all… while I miss it from across the ocean in your country.
Moelas is so good! We used to eat it in Brazil too.
Hello Dave, I love watching your videos I'm planning on visiting there after retiring
Portugal has been on my list for a long time and when I watch you and see how beautiful it is can't wait
thanks for sharing everything and your honesty
Dave's videos are great. I'm so glad that he is learning Portuguese and integrating very well. His accent is spot on. I have no desire to live in Portugal again, but I still enjoy his videos.
AS USUAL, FANTASTIC! TAKE CARE !
🙏🏻
Your friend the rehab nurse is a legend. I hope he gets all the way back from the covid PTSD. Great video all around. Appreciate you Dave
Dave is presenting Porto and most of the video is about food/drinking! He is becoming a portuguese!
I completely understand where the Nurse is coming from. Being a physician during the pandemic really took a toll on my mental state. We had to stay strong against an enemy we could not see and was killing our neighbors. My wife and I are in the process of obtaining our D-7 visas so we can retire to Portugal. Remember, you are not alone!
You are most welcome 👌
Obrigado Dave !
Living the dream my friend, living the dream!
My (stunning) city! ❤😊❤
🙌🏻
We love your Portugal videos! Our son just moved to Pombal from Oregon. He married a woman that he met three years ago in a language app chat room! They also watch your channel. We will be spending two weeks in Portugal this October (Pombal, Porto and Lisbon with side trips to Coimbra and Nazare). I am trying to sign up for Anita's beginning course with your link. It opens her intro, but when I click on "Discover the Courses" it goes nowhere. Is there another link?
Awesome video! Now you are forced to show the other 17 district capitals of Portugal, because our country is amazing, and so no other Portuguese Will be mad at you! Thank you for showing our country like you do!
Absolutely LOVE Porto...originally we were going to buy an apartment in Porto only ended up choosing a villa in Obidos. Then we were going to buy a winter vacation home in Malaga, Spain only ended up choosing Albufeira, Portugal. And one day...if we are blessed enough we will find a place in Porto. For now we are booked to stay in Porto for June 22/24!!!! We will definitely check out the places you recommended!
On June 23 evening is St. John's festivities here in Porto, on the 24th it' is the city public holiday. Watch the sky and you'll see hot balloons everywhere and fireworks at midnight near the river, everybody is walking on the streets handling a tweeting hammer.
@@LFANS2001 thank you and looking forward to it!
Oh, man, I LOVED Obidos! So hard to choose when everywhere is so amazing! Congrats on the home in PT!
"Shrinkage" a concept that began with George Constanza!
Living the dream. I love Portugal.
thanks Dave It s my city, I like when you speak portuguese, you pronounce like us natives
awesome
I’m from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 and soon I will be living in Porto and this documentary makes me more excited and finding a good coffee shop really was a big help for me because we ticos don’t drink Italian coffee styles that much haha
We are visiting Portugal in the next few weeks...👌🏼
@DaveinPortugal I am glad people are seeing the gem Porto is! I am moving to Porto from London at the end of this year with my partner. I'm Product Designer and I know how much the creative industry thrives in PT. Maybe we should hang out! ✌🏼
Portooo 🥳😊
The fact that you didn't say tapas and know that all those snacks are called "petiscos" it's so reassuring of your channel credibility. You always respect the Portuguese culture and I comend you for that. I'm Portuguese and currently live in the US, I went to a "supposedly" high end Portuguese restaurant in Houston and the guy said he was serving me tapas and wine... I was about to have a heart attack and never came back😂😂 😂 Big mistake! I'm sure D. Afonso Henriques even turned himself inside his casket!
Nice video!! Maybe update us on the sale of your house & did you buy a place in Porto?
Update coming soon!
Why subtitles for the nurse and the coffee guy? Very clear well articulated English.
Nice blogs sir ❤
Me watching this video 3 days before my flight to Porto. 😂
(Was born and bred there)
Great v
Next time you visit Flores if i still work there i Will offer you a massage at the hotel. Also don't forget to come here in june 23 for the São João 🎉🎉🎉
I loved all ❤️👍
Thank you for the kind words and support 🙏🏻
My city 💙
Porto is very beautiful, and the people are the best thing about the city!
As pessoas estão melhores??!!??!!
Hey Dave! You should go to Bolhão Market to the restaurant Pintainho 36!! It has really amazing food there and the people are very nice
This is just the best city in the world 🌍
Hi Dave, love your videos! We’re actually from Lake Tahoe as well and live on the West shore. We’re coming to Portugal in October. My wife is vegetarian but I’m not. How easy will it be to find restaurants where we’ll both find things to enjoy.
because of the wine and people
Dave, great video. But did you have to give up Rooftop Flores? Now it will be impossible for us residents to get a seat!
Hey @DaveinPortugal:
I've been watching your videos in Portugal and I'm a big fan. I live in Albany; NY and I'm thinking about retiring to Portugal. I've spent about a year researching everything about the country (Weather, politics, news, Rent, ect). I'm looking for a quiet place to retire, like Aveiro, Algaves, Madeiras, Cascais, etc. Preferably somewhere in the countryside near a lake or river with not too many tourists.
Do you have any recommendations? Also, do you know of any websites where I can start making some online friends in Portugal? I speak Spanish, English, and a bit of French, and I'm planning to learn Portuguese too. I'd love to be your friend as well.
Thanks for all your help! Good Luck.
Obrigado
Gabriel
With Spanish and a bit of French it will be very easy for you to get fluent in Portuguese I can assure you. Just tune up your hears for our "ditongos" which are much easier the the french ones... Good luck
No city in the world beats Porto
5:15 Something ain't right there 😂
Try a post em português so we can see your progress....
Tirar o cavalinho da chuva
We went on a small tour around some cities in europe, and felt the warmth of Porto. Even when comparing a city in the same country (lisbon), I feel that Porto still welcomes tourists. Lisbon felt like any other city in europe: they are just sick of tourists.
Hi Dave, I am of Portuguese decent both of my parents where from Portugal. In fact, I and my wife and kids go back every two years. I am fortunate because my parents had previously bought a home in Albuferia. I like your videos just a bit confused on this one regarding Porto, because you did one earlier in the year. The one where you got mugged in Porto. So, it's really not all that great...
Hi Joseph, thanks for the comment. I don’t really understand what you’re implying here (respectively). My favorite city in the US is Chicago, but it has one of the highest crime rates in states. People mugged me, not the city
Tourists are super welcome in our city but long term foreigners should reconsider the negative effects that it brings to our beloved Porto; gentrification is a massive issue that affects most locals. Thanks for your attention.
No. Too cold, too windy!
Porto is a beautiful city, but Braga was recently elected the 10 best city in Europe..
Portugal Healthcare ranks highly in the world over USA by a long shot!
I do not wish to dispute Porto's position, but since you are in Portugal feel free to reach when you come to Lisbon and I will gladly take some days off work to show you the best places in town
Ele conhece Lisboa também.
Didn't Portugal recently do away with expat incentives? One of the best success stories in Europe was Sweden. No lockdowns. Although not in Europe, Africa had one of the lowest rates of cases.
Can you please do vid on vegan lifestyle in Porto? With emphasis on vegan fashion (eg shoes). Thank you.
Porto is indeed s great city. I am from Lisboa, but I love the vibe of Porto, the people and their sweet sassyness mixed with grittiness and fierce loyalty to Portugal. Unfortunately, Porto is not for everyone . Yes it is tough for locals to survive given the low salaries and high prices, but in our close to 900 year history its has been tough for locals always, one reason or another. Resentful Portuguese should not criticize foreigners (that may be better off) just because they think Porto is cool. It IS and it has nothing to do with how the locals live. This is a political issue, and instead they should vote, get civilly involved, think (and do) outside de box instead of just complain and do absolutely nothing!
Many need mental health assistance but don't get any because in Portugal mental illness is stigmatized, so they go on being sour pussed about their lives, blaming others for their situation. Tired of our victimization mentality. I know many of my citizens suffer, and I hate that, but also many don't do anything to change the status quo.
Dave, thanks for going 'out there' amongst my people. For showcasing the entrepreneurs amongst us that make it happen (yes, we do have some!) and for giving our health personnel the chance to plug the mental health crisis here in Portugal, which is worldwide...
I’m shocked to hear about the lack of mental health care and the stigma surrounding it. But America was like that before, hopefully in time Portugal will get better. America isn’t even doing enough. Especially with all the mass shootings we have, you would think they would up their game. But sadly no.
Too bloody expensive..... Housing is far too expensive.
better than lisbon?
