What is the target? Now that I’m a parent, and I have seen not only how much of life is out of my control, but also how little of my children’s lives I should strive to control, this beautiful story has a new message for me. So often in self-help videos, people tell us to envision material things: our ideal job, ideal house, ideal car, even ideal partner. But what people don’t realize is so, so many factors are outside of your control. You can’t control who falls in love with you, what the economy does, how politicians act, or how well your company does and whether you keep your job. We have some influence over these things, but not control. So then, what is the target? The target is WHO we want to be in any of these circumstances. With or without a partner, no matter which party is steering the government, no matter whether we are employed or not, whether our children are interested in what we want them to be or not, whether our dear ones are still alive, whether our bodies are struggling against disease… these are things that we only have some influence over. The target is WHO we want to be, what values we want to hold, what thoughts we want to have, what actions we want to choose, no matter what. just live life without goals like a rolling stone- thats Zen- freeflow of thought- with goals in your mind you only get more and more confused even though you might be confident about yourself but that does not mean that you are free P.S. because of the goals we have in mind we kill one another we do harm others, without goals where can such thoughts arise? ZEN IS PURPOSELESS therefore any goals in your mind is just you making yourself more and more busy to avoid the acceptation of a simple truth- Life is Meaningless. One who wants nothing at all has everything in the world.
