  • From the villages of Corvara, Colfosco, La Villa, Badia and La Val you reach by ski or public bus the locality Armentarola in San Cassiano, from where taxis bring you to the Falzarego pass.
    At the pass the Lagazuoi cable car goes up to the Lagazuoi mountain, where you can enjoy a 360° panorama view of the Dolomites mountains.
    As a "warmer" you should try the red slope "Lagazuoi" that takes you back to Passo Falzarego. You are then ready for the "true descent of the Lagazuoi ski tourLagazuoi", as it is known - the Armentarola piste. This ski slope that stretches for 7.2 km and has an altitude difference of 1,130 m descends through the mountains, passing beside ice cascades, until the Sass Dlacia area from where, pulled by horses, you arrive at the ski lift Armentarola that takes you back up to the Alta Badia ski-carousel.

    @MrFenderrosso Thanks for your comment :) Yes it's such an awesome nature, I love the landscapes in the Dolomites. One of the most beautiful places on earth! I have some more nice videos from this region, but didn't find the time to edit and upload them yet...
    Regarding the ending: Yeah it's great that I can take a seat in a canvas chair whithout having to unstrap my "skies", one of many advantages of my short "Bigfoots" :)

      You will be at least a bit faster with regular ski and normal weight ;-) I was skiing with "Big Foot Trick" (75cm short ski) and only have a weight of 57kg, so this slows me down on flat slopes way more than others. But most of the time the slope is not steep, so it's definitely more for enjoying the nature than for speed-lovers, yes :D

    Yes the Lagazuoi to Armentarola slope definitely belongs to the ones with the most beautiful mountains world-wide :) It's not for challenging skiing, but for pure enjoyment of nature!
    The Gran Risa is the opposite, you fully have to concentrate on skiing and have no time for watching landscapes :D But you have to take it in the morning, when it's well prepared. Depending on the snow-conditions, this one can get really difficult on evenings whith a combination of ice and piles^^

    The slope start from 46,53N - 12,01E and 46,55N - 11,98E at the arrive at Capanna Alpina ( not where the video end) the remaining part of the slope is beatiful with an iced waterfall along the slope

    @MegaSuncity1 Yeah, but what you saw in this video is just part 1 ;-) I made a break there - the slope still continues, passing beside ice cascades and ends with beeing pulled by horses to the next ski-lift. Hope I'll find the time to edit and upload that video-footage as well soon.

  • @GalaxyTraveler
    @GalaxyTraveler  11 років тому

    Sorry, I don't have a GPS-tracker. But you simply take the cable car that starts at "Falzarego" pass and ends just a few meters below the summit of the mountain "Lagazuoi". Then there are only 2 slopes: The one to the right takes you back to the Falzarego pass, the one to the left is the one I took, it leads to Armentarola.

  • @GalaxyTraveler
    @GalaxyTraveler  11 років тому

    I absolutely agree with you :) And I guess that's also one of the best jobs in the world ;)

  • @GalaxyTraveler
    @GalaxyTraveler  12 років тому

    @ColdFusionJapan It's 7.2 km long in total, but the final part passing beside ice cascades comes in a second video, I didn't upload yet.
    I've seen a video from "Tohoku" - don't know if that's typical for Japan, but the landscape was very different indeed. I guess many of your mountains arose from volcanos, right? That would explain the big differences to the Dolomites in Italy.

  • @GalaxyTraveler
    @GalaxyTraveler  11 років тому

    I tried some 100cm Snowblades once, didn't like them - but they didn't have the bindings centered and looked like short "normal" skies. Now I have some 87cm "Summit Jade" Skiboards from America, also perfectly centered bindings, waisted shape and lifted tips on both sides - just like the "Big Foot Trick" I used to ski with more than 15 years already...
    I prefere to keep it short, the feeling is more similar to Inline- or Ice-Skates this way. And I'm more than 80 km/h fast with them anyway ;-)

  • @GalaxyTraveler
    @GalaxyTraveler  12 років тому

    @silviobelletti Yes the weather was great! But I've been there another time when it was snowing and stormy as well ;-) It's really arduous skiing against the wind on that slope - like cross-country skiing!

  • @GalaxyTraveler
    @GalaxyTraveler  12 років тому

    Hehe, I know this region and most of the slopes in the Dolomites much better than every city - in larger cities I always need a GPS-system, otherwise I'm lost! But in the mountains I don't even need a map - I just have too look around, recognize the mountains and know how to get everywhere, although these are several hundret kilometers of slopes :D
    I'm looking forward to the GoPro remote control! Because so far the handling was not the best - but the image-quality is great :)

  • @GalaxyTraveler
    @GalaxyTraveler  12 років тому

    @NexsterCrn Hopefully they get some more snow before, I've been there in January and it was almost nothing. Hardly enough to prepare the slopes, but this will not last till easter in case the temperature is more than 0° a few days. In the worst case you have to go to Austria instead, they have TOO MUCH snow at the moment (in some regions 4 or 5 meters!), so this should be fine on easter ;)

    • @GalaxyTraveler
      @GalaxyTraveler  10 років тому

      You have to take the bus / ski taxis from San Cassiano to Passo Falzarego. At the pass a cable car goes up to the Lagazuoi mountain. From the top you can already see the slope dividing into two directions (see the start of my video), the right one takes you back to the cable car, the left one is the one I continue in the video.
      The end of the video is not the end of the slope, it continues passing beside ice cascades - I'm sorry that I didn't find the time to upload this part as well. It ends at a single house (restaurant / hotel I think?) from where you can either be taken back by bus / taxi or you continue on skies, but have to do "cross-country skiing" for 5-10 minutes until you reach a point where horses pull you on a long rope (dozens of people at once) the rest of this flat area, until you reach Armentarola. You can also do "cross-country skiing" the whole distance to Armentarola, but it's no downward slope anymore - it's a maybe 3 or 4 meters wide flat path. In Armentarola it's just one small T-bar lift bringing you back to the main-slope leading to San Cassiano valley station.

  • @1688AAA

    Is it too much to ski on this trail from Cortina side to Alta Badia then back? Then to Sella Ronda? Where is a good accomodation? Thanks Galaxy.

    • @GalaxyTraveler
      @GalaxyTraveler  6 років тому

      If you're a good and fast skier, it's possible in theory. But it highly depends on how crowded it is and how long you have to wait at the lifts. Also you have to time the busses. From Cortina you first have to take a bus or car to Falzarego pass. There you have to wait for the cable railway / ropeway to Lagazuoi.
      After having done the Sella Ronda, you still have to get back to Falzarego pass by bus or private taxis, either from Corvara or Armentarola.
      If you want to ski many different regions, an accommodation in Corvara or Selva di Val will be a better starting-point than Cortina. From there you can always do the Sella Ronda of course (but this is the most crowded), but also do trips to Santa Croce (Alta Badia), Marmolada (Arabba), Seceda (Val Gardena) or Ciampac (Val Di Fassa) for example just using your skis and lifts. But in this case you'll need a bus or car to reach Cortina or Civetta.

    • @1688AAA
      @1688AAA 6 років тому

      I have problems getting hotels, as it is very crowded. Possible to enter Sella Ronda and other trails from the Marmolada ski pass side?

    • @1688AAA
      @1688AAA 6 років тому

      @GalaxyTraveler, besides the Sella Ronda (since it's so crowded) what others would you recommend?

    • @GalaxyTraveler
      @GalaxyTraveler  6 років тому

      For this season, it will be hard to still find a hotel for sure yes, most people already book their hotel 1 year ahead. As "ski pass" you always need the "Dolomiti Superski" ski pass in order to do the Sella Ronda, since Sella Ronda covers different ski areas. But "Dolomiti Superski" is one for all. The village Arabba also would be a good starting-point directly within the Sella Ronda. I don't know how many hotels there are directly near Marmolada, if any, probably in Malga Ciapela? From there you also could use the lifts to Passo Padon, and enter the Sella Ronda via Porta Vescovo / Passo Pordoi in one direction, or via Arabba / Corvara in the other direction.
      Lagazuoi for sure is one thing you should have done 1 time, apart from that, if you're there anyway - don't miss the slopes of Cinque Torri. They're not many, but if you're not there during peak season, they're often totally empty and therefore fun to ski. The slopes in the ski areas of Cortina and Civetta also are less crowded than the ones in Sella Ronda and Marmolada - simply because they're harder to reach for most people that have their accommodation in one of the Villages of Sella Ronda. Sella Ronda can be seen as the main highway to reach most ski areas just using lifts and skis (no bus needed) within one day. As soon as you ski some slopes aside this highway, they're getting much more empty and often without any waiting at the lifts at all.
      In Val Gardena for example you could leave Sella Ronda on "Piz Sella", the slope downwards to "Monte Pana" (above St. Christina), but you'll have to use the poles because it's a pretty flat way in the end. From Monte Pana there's just one chairlift upwards, but 3 slopes (2 red and 1 black) back to this lift that are totally empty in off-season, this is nothing spectacular in regards of the landscape, but is really fun to ski if there are maybe 5 persons on the whole slope.

    Yikes. Such tiny short ski's.

    • @GalaxyTraveler
      @GalaxyTraveler  10 років тому

      Short ski, but huge fun! :D If you're familiar with inline- and ice-skating, these behave way more similar on snow than regular ski. Acceleration works exactly the same way and you're able to turn curves with a very small radius. Actually not really an advantage on this slope, but it's easy to go for even the steepest ones with them.
