Otto is like the epitome of "you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain" if Void Archive didn't show him a way to extend his life he would have died as a celebrated man in history who overthrew a shitty government but he continued on and that guilt and sadness kept eating at him and growing for centuries

No one hates Otto more then Otto himself he is fully aware of everything hes done and knows fully well the person he is trying to save wouldnt want him to do any of the things he did to save her.
It’s good he has that self awareness and just can’t stop himself. Makes him a more complex and interesting villain 🙂😈
That last minute of the chronicle always gave me a chill. Imagine you're winning and gain so much new power but didn't realize till the end that it was actually still part of your enemy's huge plan and it's not in some stinky or devious way, he actually wanted you to have that power to save the world.

Oh wow, I wasn't expecting you guys to get back into Honkai Impact so soon. The last cinematic for the first arc of this series just concluded too so I guess when there's a chronicle that they release to help summarize and pair with the cinematic to help people catch up, you guys might check it out too. As someone who is already playing, this recent portion of the story isn't easy to digest.
Thanks for letting us know about that! We wanted to get back to Honkai and at least brush up on some stuff and keep it in the back of our mind for when more story content drops 😅
Otto is pretty much the only reason I gave Honkai a shot.
Most people would do it for the pretty anime girls, but ironically, it's a guy and actually other guys in the series that gave me the curiosity to check out the game.
He's just such a complex character and isn't a villain that is very stupid at times.

I just a recommend a video by Homu Labs titled “Understanding Otto Apocalypse, a splendid written villain”. It really goes to show how much thought and realism went to the creation of one of the best antagonists we got in story telling.
The Kaslana oath: protect those you love and all who live even if you yourself burn away.
When Kallen and Otto were children they witnessed Kallens father die by using the Flames of Shamash. Though there was thousands of flowers around his coffin Otto could still smell the burned carcass.
He realized what future awaited Kallen and he didn't want her to cry anymore so he make contact with an Apocalypse artifact (the weird ghost child holding the two boxes) Who told him that if he sacrificed himself, he can bring Kallens father back from the dead. When Kallen found out she stopped him, but the Kaslana oath haunted him still.
The Oath of Kaslana is kind of like a curse. They refuse to accept any deaths or sacrifices except their own to a horrid degree.
Hence why - the Kaslanas die to save the world, but those they love will destroy the world to save the Kaslana.

Honestly quite surprise to see you two actually react to this video, which is super duper great, you made my day, thank you very much. The Otto Chronicle video in my opinion gives almost all the context needed to understand Otto, although there can still be some more detail it just didn't have the time to include, which I can tell you just to give Otto a tiny bit more credit.
When the Plague occured 500 years ago, Otto didn't simply throw away morality when searching for the cure. Back then Kallen was the strongest Valkyrie of Schicksal, because of her personality, she often selflessly put herself in danger to protect others both in war and agains the Church Order. Otto of course helped her but knowing how powerful the Church was (he was a son of the leading family of course) he afraid that she will get herself killed sooner or later, and that made him desperated to find the cure at all cost, just for the hope that it will keep her safe. What come after are shown in the video, 500 years of Otto being a clown of Destiny.
Otto was a villian, make no mistake on that but even though he sacrified many lifes, he also saved just as many. His research was cruel and horrible, but it greatly pushed the technology growth and give humanity many weapons to fight agains the Honkai. Everything he has done, horrible, despicable things... all for the purpose of reviving Kallen, good thing and bad thing that happened in those 500 years, to him are just byproducts.
I believe that Otto loves Kallen, but he knows that after eveything he has done, he can never be with her so he can only hope for her happiness and did everything to help her achieve it. In the end, he used his own life to created a whole new branch of timeline where Kallen is still alive, not for himself but for Kallen, to find happiness in her own way. And that is what makes me and I believe many others really respect him.
Sorry for the long comment, but I hope this will help you know a bit more about one of the most intersting villian I've ever seen and thank you again for making this reaction video.
Also, you can check out the video "Honkai Impact 3rd Graduation Trip" later, that'll be a nice conclusion to Kiana's story (or the end of the first part according to Hoyoverse).

WTF are you talking about? I have never hated him. I have always been saying that he is not doing bad things for the evil purpose but for purspose I understand. And he didn't do bad things to my favourite characters so I had no reason to hate him.

Damn, didn't expect you guys to go back and watch this, nice. I think you nailed some of the character points between Otto and Kallen with the context given. There is a new Honkai cinematic btw, Graduation Trip.
There is also a new Honkai Chronicles for the Herrscher of Reason, which is a good summary of Welt's life before he transitions to Honkai Star Rail and more insight into Bronya.
Arguably, one of the best written villains of all time. Expect more Honkai content in the years to come.

Otto is a villain and caused immense amounts of suffering but i will always respect him for his dedication and what he achieved, ironically thanks to him the world gained its best chance to beat Honkai

Otto is a villan for all he do but i respect that he became the villan of the world for the person he loves most.
I see Otto not a hero nor a villain. That is a man with a mission. A man with mountains of focus and planetary sheer will. Nobody has cracked Otto until the end. That is one thing i admire him the most.
SOOOOO GREAT OF A CHARACTER! A freaking villain who, if you look at him at first you will think that he's just a typical villain who had some past issues like every other antagonists, but after seeing every actions and effects he did, he actually didn't cause any major problem to the main characters.
IN FACT! He's actually the reason why the protagonists gain so much power at the end. He included in his plan that instead of the world suffering because of his actions, they will actually gain more power for them to fight the honkai.
There are quite a few more cinematics left, especially now that they have wrapped up the first major storyline and are moving to the next phase of the game's story. Among the big ones you missed are the cinematic and Chronicle of Durandal, and the "Graduation" cinematic. THere are some smaller ones in there too.
On an aside, if you want more cheerful bubbly Honkai animations, you can check out Elf Academy as well as Cooking with Valkyries. THese are just funny side animations not part of the game itself, but they show us that it's not all Honkai Depression Impact.

Otto is one of the best villains I've ever come across. The story of Honkai Impact, was ALL HIS PLAN. How many villains, heck humans, can claim to try what this man did, and succeed. The heroes winning? That was also his plan
he is 1000% villain and he knows it more then anyone..but what he has done was not for others,himself or even kallen..to him it was almost as if it was fundamental law that kallen should of lived and he robbed her of that so no matter ANYTHING he had to reverse that action...and he done it..maybe thats why otto is my favorite villain...because i understand him xD

Really love the reactions just finished the two hour video and this one just remembered there was also a chronicle about Durandal not sure if you all are still interested but, its a pretty good backstory that might help clear her relation in the story.
When kindness and stubbornness gets in the way of saving the world then cruelty and compromise might sound like the better solution.
That is, if you think like Otto did.

Otto is the worst kind of person that did a lot of horrible things. But his goals were truly noble. Ironically his necessities he planned ended up not only making the main characters strong enough to defeat and "kill him" as he intended, but made their resolve so much greater that even long after what he had planned it helped them have so much more to combat their final trials.
Otto Apocalypse. You love to hate him as much as you hate to love him.
This Mans sheer Commitment of 500yrs alone is worthy of Respect (Like Kevin) no matter what they've done, doesn't make them right yes but Otto doesn't really just had the right ppl around him when he lost Kallen and that made him go Megalomaniac.
Otto is a villain there's no if's and but's about it. Trying to encapsulate him in couple words is just not possible. He is a genius full of regrets but at the same time able to become apathetic to others. Cherishes moments of frienship he forms with Fu Hua but does not hesitate to use and abuse it for his ultimate goal. Adopts Theresa and once he sees she's not a mindless clone but how she was created is nightmare fuel.

Without Otto valks didnt stand a chance aganist honkai. Yes, he did wrong but thanks to him they have the tools to survive (Kiana is an experiment from Otto), and all the tech he develop.

The chronicles misframes a bit of his story but it’s overall pretty accurate
Yeah it sort of glosses over the story a bit but it gets the overall message. . . Otto is a buffoon. A clown with admirable patience and resolve.
I always figured the chronicle was written from Otto's perspective. He doesn't want to muddle the waters or try to redeem himself and, frankly, believes this all stems back to his own mistakes. His reasons for doing the things that set Kallen apart from him didn't matter: They were morally questionable at best, and Kallen disapproved of them, so he just takes the loss on it.
I mean... Otto is the only one who calls himself a clown for quite a long time, and that's the opener of the chronicle.

Honkai Impact 3rd has one of the best stories in gaming and up until this point, I hated Otto for all he did but this part made me understand why he did what he did. If I could make a video suggestion, Max0r made a video titled Genshin Impact is a Playable Anime, it’s a funny way to describe the game

otto and kallen story is kind of a copy of the story of Jeanne d'arc, a saint killed by the local church of the time for political reason, and later the church denouncing the the execution and declare the excommunication of the players within that english church
otto is being kind of like Gilles de Rais, a simp for the saint that commited outragous crime due to the death of his loved one
gilles with mass murder of children, because he believed the killing by the church was the will of God and wanted to get revanche against God through satanic child rape and sacrifice(he recognised his errors before his execution and repented)

Hollywood needs to take some tips from hoyoverse, lol. I have never cried once for a movie, and the story and cinimatic for otto had me looking like Niagara Falls.

It's normal you couldn't uncerstand it and clueless. Only if you both need to play the game directly to feel the experience and full context from the game's storylines. The story is more deep and complex than that short synopsis. That was why we respected and cried for Otto. Otto is a super well written villain character, but still, In the end, Otto is a real hero.

Many people acknowledge his villainy but respect his achievements, I just flat out don't like that. We can be here and discuss all day but he didn't need people to judge him so nice immunity I guess. All I can ask myself is if I were one of the people he deceived or sacrificed, will I be able to feel the same as a reader/audience.
