Leaving the Island on my Solo motorbike camping adventure aboard a Royal Enfield Himalayan - S1-E14

- The journey continues, I catch the ferry from Devonport to Geelong, then head into the City of Melbourne, I drop by royal Enfield for some parts then head up towards the Victoria High Country through the Yarra Range National park to find somewhere to camp for the night.

it's awesome, this time I am just passing through so I'll miss all the good bits but I'll be coming back for a much longer time to go exploring.
Another great video Joe. I have travelled the Pacific Coast Hwy in the USA on a FJR and then again on a K1600GT, but I love Australia and the scencery. When you loose the watch and just travel at your own pace, life is much better. Keep upright and stay safe.

@@freewayproject Hell, I am 78 with a Himalayan but the weather in our country NW US has been awful. I have had one day to ride . I enjoy seeing parts of the world I would never see at my age. Be safe on the road and enjoy life. Getting old is not for the weak
Hi Joe, wow I don't like cities but Melbourne look amazing. Watching the night ride I'm wondering do you have the standard bulb fitted. I was surprised they didint tie the bike down on the ferry.... Or maybe they did?😎... Harry
The bike has an LED front headlight (it came with the bike) apparently the original ones aren't as bright. Yes they did tie the bike down but did it after I left the vehicle deck and they took the straps of before I got back to it.
Reason why i keep watching, is the bike😊. Cuz i got one😅

Thanks Jason, I am over 22 000km on mine and no issue with the bike, if you look at the first 3 episodes of this ride you can see I am actually using it for what it's build for, exploring, dirt roads, dirt tracks, sand, rocky tracks etc... and it's been great.
I am sure you'll have fun on yours.
Im not sure what video I found your channel first, but i watched the newest ones, then realized I should start at the beginning so ive watched from s1e1 up to this point, sensational videos mate.
The quality shows how much time you spend filming and editing them, I will be honest I have played with some editing but the reason i left pro photography behind me was the hours editing on a pc, so any time I edit videos for YT it gets old fast and I go back to enjoying living life lol but i sure enjoy the hours you put into everything, you really remind me of the way Karen from cutting edge engineering edits their vids, if you enjoy watching yt, you will enjoy their vids!
What air mattress pump are you using as it looks ideal for when i begin my bike traveling journey :)

Gorgeous area with so many tracks to explore. We recently came through some amazing tracks from Jamieson and stopping at Woods Point. Certainly gave my Himalayan a workout on 17 continuous km of slippery dirt road. Looking forward to seeing more of your footage Joe 😊
Yes it is a gorgeous area Terri, I had no really idea where the good roads were, coming through this time was more about getting my bearings for a longer trip where I can spend a few weeks in the area. Apologies for all the good tracks I'll miss, I'll have to make up for it next time.

glad you are enjoying the series. I am just using a MTB pump I have with a gauge, it doesn't pump up the tire that fast, but if I have and a flat I am not normally in a rush so taking a few more minutes isn't an issue for me.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the series around Tassie. It's a great place to explore and you're going at the warmest time of year.
I could't find a solution I like so based on the data off Google Maps you can apply a CSS style sheet, the copy each section of the map (the more detailed you want it the more you need to zoom in so you need to create a lot of sections) then stick all the images together to make the map. Once that is done I used an animation program Motion then animate the path I took adding the locations and key frame the map to make it move into the position I need it to more. I have done it the same for the first series (the one you have been watching with Tasmania in it) and the second series (across the country to Western Australia ) the only difference was the CSS style sheet.
Hey Joe. That is what I call a proper RE shop! WOW! Here in (Montreal) Canada, we have two dealers. I went to the one closest to my house on the weekend and it has a little work to do before it comes anywhere NEAR the shop you were in. But as long as they can do the work, doesn't really matter, right? I am pretty much set on getting this bike. I can order one and it will be here at the end of June so the timing is perfect since I will be moving in the middle of the month. Can you tell me?: I believe that you have the GIVI engine guards on your bike. True? Always appreciate your videos and photography. Thanks for these. It was actually the RE Headquarters in Australia, there was a lot more that I didn't show.
I have the stock standard bash plate, I tore a hole in it in episode 3 in the rocks, so replaced it at RE.
It was second half of summer leading into autumn. I am going to head off in about 4 weeks right across the country to the Indian Ocean, no idea how long I'll be on the ride for. There are places I know about but have never been as there a bit off the track. So I'll try and string a few of those together, but I'll just be winging it.

Well to track my rides and create those animation I am just using my memory, I've been told I have an insane memory for locations, mapping, spatial awareness, so from my memory I can then look at a map and see the route I took. It's weird but seem very helpful when traveling. I suck at a lot of other stuff to make up for that skill.

I started the trip on the Dunlop D605 rear tire which was great for all the out back dirt roads, sand and trails. Now I am on the Pirelli Scorpion (got it in Tasmania) as I wore out the tread on the D605 and still have thousands of KM to go.

Joe, as someone putting plenty of miles on a Himalayan, how often do you find you have to adjust the valve clearances? The service manual says every 3000 miles (so 5000 kms in your money), but I'd be surprised if it needs it that often, especially after the initial bedding in.
Hey Richard, I am not sure if it was done when I got it service at around 10 000km, I dropped into Royal Enfield Head Quarters on this trip and they looked over it and didn't think it need to be adjusted at about 18 000km. I am at around 22 000km and about to get service so I gather they'll look at it this time but I have had no issue and it is running the same as when I got it.
@@freewayproject Ok, this is much as I was expecting, the service schedule is probably over conservative. If you are doing big trips, 5000km service intervals (other than oil changes and basic maintenance) is a bit hard to work to, so it would seem just go for it. Stay away from the last 1000 rpm on the rev counter and it'll probably go for ages. Thanks!
your last comment reminded me that the head mechanic at Royal Enfield asked what speed I was normally sitting on, I said 95 - 100kmph, but I was taking mostly slower roads, which meant I wouldn't be going into the last 1000rpm (still in the 4000's), so he probably came to the same conclusion you have.
@@freewayproject I think the Himalayan is potentially an epic travel bike. Some people mark it down for the low power, but it is exactly that which stops it from eating fuel, tyres, chains, sprockets etc. You are doing some awesome rides and covering big distances, so I'll keep watching with interest.
