One of the bonuses of recently discovering your NZ content has been the back catalogue Joe....really enjoying binge watching your adventures, this episode included. I love that you keep stopping to take it in!
It's great to hear you are enjoying the other series Mark. Yes it's so important to stop and take it all in, I am not traveling too somewhere the end destination isn't that exciting I have already been there (home 😂😂) it's all the new places and things that happen along the way so if I trying to go fast I'd miss everything.
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it, yes plans can get in the way of the fun bits. How are the conditions in Ireland now? are you able to get out on the Himalayan and explore
Yes the wind was getting a little bit crazy but there a explanation from it in the next episode. Actually I was surprise with the magpies photo too, at the time of taking it I thought it would be a throw away image but for some reason it works. Thanks for watching.
@Zulu9rider I have been asked that question a lot more frequently now, (I do commercial work for outdoor and adventure brands and Olympic Sports). With the interest it seem that I should possibly set something up?
The snow gums died cos of the fires. 🔥 they were lovely and healthy before the darn fires. It doesn’t take a very hot fire to kill them either which is sad. Also another trip ride up past jamieson to woods point etc. you will find lots to photograph up there.
Hello again Joe got to stop meeting like this just in from the pub again on a miserable night in the uk 🇬🇧 ☹️ another cracking video to watch before bed, looks almost as cold n bleak there as it is here but still nice to be out on the bike stay safe mate and look forward to your next video 👍
hey Alan, you'll have to tell me which pub so if I am over there I can drop in 😁. It was a little cool, the next video has an indication on how cool it got.
Love the rule of tonnage, the more tons you have the more right of way you have, but on a bike, you never have the right of way, even when you have the right of way!
Loving following your trip Joe. I totally get your comment about why it is great to travel alone, especially if you're not following a strict itinery: stopping when something grabs your attention. I've been on too many rides with others and feel the constant pressure to keep going. In doing so, I've flashed past so many things that I would have liked to stop and investigate, photograph etc. Then again, I haven't had the luxury of taking too much time to be able to travel at a slower pace but having also bought a Himmy, I plan to travel more in the 'Himmy lane'. Cheers
I hear you mate, I was riding with a couple of guys and we rode straight past the The Pinnacles in Western Australia (it is not far of the HWY). that's the moment where I was like, it cool to ride with friends buuuuutttttt. Awesome on the Himalayan. It is a bike build for exploring, not racing to get somewhere to make sure you keep to a schedule.
Wind sounds amazing. Love these videos. I can’t afford to move to Aus which kills my soul a little bit every day but you’ve pushed me to move to Europe to enjoy the wild land mass of Spain…. Thanks Fewer spiders as well
Yay for more photos! ❤ I love the misty, muted look on this one (in the beginning), and as others here, I also know first- hand exactly what you mean about riding with others and stopping for photos, which is why I also greatly enjoy riding alone. Excellent as always!
I was only thinking watching your vids that you would prob get sick of me going omg that is spectacular wanting to stop and check out all of the amazing things haha Some people love the fast paced life, others want to bask and enjoy the moments more. The joys of choosing our own adventure in life :)
Aha, this is so much like Europe and even Britain. Thank you for showung us all this. Do try a gel seat to keep the back comfortable. 😌🤗 As for not messing with thise dinner plate size spiders, tye problem is we don't want to, but what if we don't see them first? Tough if you're a city slicker working in a high rise building downtown. 😅
Yes there is some diversity in the big old rock down the bottom, a lot different here than in the centre of the country or the west or north. It all about awareness knowing the critters are out here so always on the lookout, no looking at a mobile phone while you are walking out here.
I've enjoyed your videos. Seen plenty of places that if I was a bit younger I'd have a go at. Good on you and keep up the good attitude and adventures. Cheers
Thanks John, glad you're enjoying the series, there are probably another couple to come on this ride, then on to the next adventure, so far the plan is to head west............. that's all I have so far but it's enough to start the adventure, I'll make up the rest as I go.
Your photos are brilliant. Well worth taking the time to stop. How you can eat that canned tuna all the time is beyond me. Thank you for taking the time to post your videos, they are really well done and very interesting.
Thank you Joe. I'm coming across from the UK in a few weeks to ride from Sydney to Adelaide then 'across' Aus up the Stuart Highway to Darwin. Unfortunately it was too expensive to send my Himalayan to Aus so I'm hiring a BM f700gs (also got one of these in the UK).
If you want to ride some of the best dirt tracks and trails look into the Flinders Ranges in South Australia, it wouldn't be that bigger detour. Have fun on your ride
Another great river camp site is on the Tumut River just out of Tumut about 5ks. It’s a conservation park so the ranger will collect a few bucks for a nights stay, they have toilets.
Man I remember a loonng time ago driving from the Victorian side over the top the NSW and the road was dirt all the way through to Thredbo, did the trip in a Nissan Pulsar and by the end of it we were well and truly shaken and not stirred 😂
haha, I can only imagine. There is one road from the left tip of the Northern Territory to the right tip and it's 800km of corrugated road. only did it once, flew in a small plane the next time but no edges of mountains to fall off, so I can only imagine what that was like for you.
Hi mate, there is this play list which has them all in order, the 2 series are Brocken up by the gear and bike review. Hope that helps ua-cam.com/video/Vm0CcMUSNUo/v-deo.html
Another extremely interesting video Joe. From memory in an earlier clip, you said you may not be a huge Gopro fan?... Would you have any alternative suggestions? Thanks J
Thanks J D, I am using the DJI Osmo Action 3 now. If I could I'd strap a real camera to my helmet and not have an action camera at all, but I have not worked out how to do that.
Loving your episodes Joe. Thanks for taking the time to create and share them. Have you made any mods to your Himmy? How many km has it clocked up so far? Kind regards Paul
Hi Paul, I actually got the bike second had with only a couple thousand KM on it. They had change the lights to LED, which are great. grip warms, I have used them a far bit you love them when you need them. GRmoto exhaust, Hand guards, a few of those protective plates on some of the more delicate parts, Panniers. I put on the extra fuel cans. And more aggressive tires knobblies make the world of difference. I have put on another 20 000 km+. I have had no issues.
Thanks MessyJ, I personally have had no issue, and I have ridden it through sandy tracks, really rocky trails (and dropped it a bunch of times) long HWY stretches, I am up to 22 000km on it. So yer I couldn't be happier it has done everything I have asked of it. I am not sure what other peoples experiences with it have been.
Hey Joe I have really enjoyed watching this series. If I may ask what make is that backpack you are using? I really like the idea of accessing the camera gear from the back.
Hi mate. it's a Shimoda. Action X shimodadesigns.com they make the best camera bags of outdoor adventure shooting. I have used it of years, shooting in the back country mountains BC Canada both winter boarding, and summer MTB and enduro bikes, also in the outer island off Indonesia on surf shoot. They have a modular system as well. I think mine is the Action X30. And yes having the opening on the inside is way better keeps your steps out of the dirt.
I am using a DJI Osmo Action for filming when on the bike (from the helmet) otherwise I using a Sony A7SIII. I am taking photos with a Sony A7RIII, I only have room for 2 lenses Sony GM 24mm 1.4 and Sony GM 70mm - 200mm 2.8. I also have an old DJI Mavic Pro drone from 2016
haha, that not the massive one. it only a 200mm. The one I used for filming surf is a 600mm with a 2X on it (it's 3 times the size), It needs it's own bag to carry it 😂😂😂. Hence the reason I don't bring it on a motorbike trip
Brilliantly shot! I completely agree on the travelling alone part. Not everyone can keep up with the stop-start sequence of riding.. Do check out the videos on my channel, did a ride to the North recently, great landscape up there.

Thanks Mike, I'm having a lot of fun making them, any excuse to go for a long ride 😁
Keep them coming Joe ! As usual, some great stills add the finishing touch 🤙🏻👍🏻🇦🇺
Thanks Mathew, there are couple more to come, then on to the next adventure.
Another beautiful episode Joey. Your edging closer to my place. Thanks for spotting and appreciating that beautiful old timber bridge - WOW WOW WOW!
the fallen down house at Omeo looked like there were a few good solid beams in it.
Thanks!
as always thanks again Larry, hopefully it is warm enough in the PNW for you to go riding through the mountain.
Your welcome. I finally rode with some warm
Weather. My old 78 year old butt only lasted 100 miles but fun and getting better off road.
That is awesome to hear, bring on summer.
Good man Joe,I like what your doing, and how you do it, make no plans👍 Greetings from Ireland, I also ride a Himalayan....
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it, yes plans can get in the way of the fun bits. How are the conditions in Ireland now? are you able to get out on the Himalayan and explore
That wind! Just crazy! Gorgeous images Joe. I particularly like the one with the magpies

Beautiful scenery. I did 400km through Gippsland last weekend on the GS. Miles and miles off rolling green hills. Safe travels Joe!
It is stunning in that area Greg. Gippsland sound awesome love the long rolling green hills.

That looks like one of the most awesome bike road trips in Australia.
Yes Shawn, it has been awesome, western NSW, Victoria, the lap around Tasmania then back through the High Country, there is so much to explore.
