Was awesome watching y’all here in Texas. My checkride was scheduled that day and got cancelled for obvious reasons. So I was able to come and watch after all. Made a not so good day better.

I would imagine that the pusher prop configuration on the Chinook, makes it a lot less nerve wracking to land tight. No danger of a nose over!

I don’t understand a lot about the stol/stol drag rules of engagement. But I don’t understand the class or the ability to only fly a couple of events and win the "grand" rather than have to win your way up by invitation to “the grand”. Great job by everyone, great show, wish I could get to some of these events.
They probably need to create anew competition class. Specifically a separate class for entrants that are not flown to the event from their home base, but are trucked in to the event. We did a similar thing in car show competitions to level the playing field.
They should require all STOL plane competition aircraft to be trailered in. I'm tired of seeing heavy Cessna's trying to be a STOL aircraft. They should all be dedicated aircraft for this type of application. Lycoming's are horrible engines for STOL competition. Too heavy and they take way too long to spool up. Light weight w/high horsepower is everything. Similar to a dirt bike.
Looks like a typical Fly -In to me. Bags of chuva and bored looking folk wandering aimlessly around. Happens all over the World courtesy of the Great Lord Sod. Regards, Jim in NI UK
Are turboprops allowed in the experimental STOL competition? I'm surprised there haven't been any turboprops seems like they would compliment STOL capability. Mike pateys draco is the only turboprop I have seen in STOL competition
There should be a rule that you have to fly to the STOL event and compete with the same plane you came with.
Imagine if he had 300 horsepower on the Chinook. It's all about weight. I think his take off approach is wrong on the Chinook. He should try Steve Henry's 3-point take off approach.

Why doesn't Steve fly to these events?
I wish they would make that a requirement!
They bring all their equipment and motor home to live in, so may as well trailer it. Also it saves the engine for competition.
It takes a lot of time to fly across the country and weather causes unexpected delays. Trailering allows us to make more events . Also we bring crew, camera equipment, tools, and everything to live on the road. The Highlander is made to easily fold and it works well for our team. 😊 -Sara
