PIPEWELDING -WHAT AMPS/VOLTS TO PIPE WELD!!

- Ive never been able to give you guys an exact amp range that i run on pipe as I weld. Until now, for every one that dosnt know I have purchased a miller pipe pro 350 welding machine which one reads in amps/volts. earlier before this ive always ran lincoln machines with gear settings. I am a true believer in lincoln electric SA 200 welding machines and I will forever have a soft spot in my heart for those classics. Now back to the task at hand. in this episode we are going to run a piece of 6 inch pipe the weld joint we ill be making is to connect a 6 inch flange with a reducer to a 6 inch piece of pipe. hopefully this will help you guys out. as I read off my heats this is what I am welding on. if you are brand new to welding turn your amps down 20 until you feel comfortable and in control. everyone be blessed

Wow that's a lot hotter than I weld! Just broke out a couple weeks ago so I've got a lot to learn. Everyday I learn something new. Thanks for all the lessons Jacob! God bless from the permian basin!
Working on upgrading to a Lincoln 200 in a few days
It's worth it. For parts check out BW Parts.
Another awesome Schofield Welding Empire video!
Brother you go above and beyond!! Thanks for the list.. leave some stuff out to separate those who want it from those who expect it to handed to them. Excited to get to work!!
Great video guys! Very informative and helpful. Keep em coming!
Thanks Jake these young hands are lucky to have you looking out for them🔨🔨💯
Thanks bro for heads up god blessed 🙏👀
I thought there was some good advice in this one. Thanks for doing what you do.
you use a 7" wire wheel on a 4 1/2" grinder? Great video.
I do.
Not sure if this is on your phone or not but if so you should see if they make a mic for it, I have no experience in filming but I love your videos
Google Ram Welding Supply...they're the cheapest that I have found...and they ship anywhere...they also have sales sometimes...great customer service too...
IOC welding $5.oo cheaper on 400 amp stinger.
Can you cover your grinders stand. Built or purchased? Looks handy. Never see a good view of it. Thankss
Don’t forget, amperage is not an accurate measure of heat, every machine has a different volt/amp curve, so the voltage and the amperage together will give u wattage which allows u to compare apples to apples with diff volt/amp curves, for example, he said he was runnin 147 and 64 volts on the root, my machine produces same WATTAGE output at 98 amps as the volt curve is higher, about 78 volts. This does not meant one machine is better than the other however, just means slightly different arc characteristics.
which has better characteristics? the higher volt curve or lower?
Also there's a slight difference between rectified AC and straight DC, right?
It all determines the arc force
Great job .. like ur video's bro.. u want ur video s 2 stand out more put ur camera in pancake hood .. to show ur weld s instead of blind flash.. keep up the good work bro.
Great video
What motion do you use to hotpass, fill, and cap?
What’s the purpose or reason for using a stinger as a ground? I’ve seen multiple rigs set up like that. Thanks stay blessed
Raul Grimaldo if your stinger on your whip goes down you can switch them out. Other than that I can’t think of a good reason why
Another reason might be that stingers stay on the pipe better than those bronze ground clamps. Especially when I’m rolling a pipe out, a stingers stays on better than a regular clamp.
@@gunsntorches I have had that happen. V-stinger broke. So use my T300 that is my ground and put it on my whip. And put a bolt and washer on the bare ground/lead and clamped it down. Luckily I was working on structural not pipe that day.
Know your machine good for like i said a welding god keep on welding and be safe brother
Why not stay with 6010 for the fill and cap?
I didnt think they let miller welders on pipeline jobs just kidding Jake have a great day be safe.
them pipepros are becoming more common by the day, had an old hand run one today, said hes gonna go buy himself one, always had lincoln
Haha not no bobcat or trailblazer
I don't think they will do any different then the Vantage or the commander I personally don't like the way those type of machines weld if you're doing structure it's real hard to get to Arc blow out of them that being said I don't weld Roundy rounds so they may be really suitable for that application they do well different than what I'm used to that's all I do know about
@@robertatwood2503 well they are "pipepro"
I like how you can see the camera man's has his ppe on by the shadows
Got to keep those guys safe too 😂
I forget if I asked this, but is wearing a respirator ever done as a precaution? I read nasty things about manganese and other vapors and fumes.
Keep ur face outta the smoke. If you are welding where u cant keep ur face out of it u wear one of the miller dust masks rated for welding. They look less dorky and fit under a hood if u arent wearing a pancake.
I am a experience welder but not in pipe line but i would love to become a welder helper
Thanks again
I have a left hand welding pancake if you guys need one I'm from California
Question for anyone on here to answer. How important is it for your rig truck to have 4x4? Would a 2wd dually have enough traction for working in most conditions? Looking at diesels the 2wd trucks are a heck of a lot cheaper, a bit lighter and less moving parts that can break.
Red Morse you're probably gonna be getting stuck an will have to be pulled out a lot.
@@marcohernandez9781 yeah you're probably right. I've seen a fair few 2wd rigs in my area though but none are pipeline specific setups.
@@redmorse4321 good tires, rear locker or g80 and know how to drive will get it done. Welding rig weighs enough u get good traction. Long as ur smart enough yo stay out of deep mud
I never had as many problems getting stuck as when i owned a 2wd dually. steer clear if on anything but highway. the slightest sand wash or mud and you are screwed.
what mods do you do to the guard to fit 7" wheels?
for price Lowes has Dewalt 4 1/2" angle grinder AC/DC for $119 a few weeks ago & if person hunts online they can find a $20 coupon, so $99 + tax for a new grinder, I did that a few weeks ago.
He's in Colorado tho. I'm sure everyone around is gouging the welders. Here in Pa you can go to lowes for a Dewalt for same price. $120 for 7" grinders too.
Depends on the amp draw. The 7.5a version from Dewalt is about $60 and the 11a is about $90 both priced as home cheapo on the left coast.
I have no idea what amps I'm at. Range , remote per cent and feel will be all that matters after 25 years.
Thats how I run to. if in doubt turn it up!!! lol
Wat kind of arc?? Soft side or stiff side??
What mods do you do to the guard to fit the 7in on the 4 1/2in grinder?
We’re do u get the guards for your grinders at like that
Everlast 160 STH.... I'm thinking of buying one as a garage (hobby) welder. Any suggestions of something better ?
What’s the gloves you are using?
legendary trailmix looks like bsx or Tillman 850’s. Best stick gloves in my opinion
Black stallion
You gentlemen need to try the Yellowstone elk skin gloves. Most comfortable gloves I've ever used 👍🇺🇸
I prefer the tillman 48s
Yeah buddy
How does 7010 weld compared to 7018? Do yall run a lot of 7018?
7010 is downhill rod, so very different
Way different xx10 rods are cellulose rods. Lot more aggressive arc and quick freezing puddle
They are same tensile strength and the 7018 is Low Hy rod where as the 7010 is cellulose rod run it like a 6010
What rod ? What size ? My guess 1/8" 6010. ???
He said 5/32 didn’t he
👍
Third gear 30 to 45 if it gets touchy hot pass nitty to macx on third o so 60 on fourth and sixth on cap with a 3/16
Does this 7010 feel the same to run as 6010+++++?
James Bradshaw No sir
What lens are you running in your hood? I'm looking for a good one I can trust in a pancake
He uses an Arc One shade 11 solar.
+Bill Cyrus I wonder if that's the standard 240 or the 240hd
@@Txbassmaster96 I think he said the hd.
Just go with the HD.
Try True Arc.
whats wrong with the audio is it loud and scrachy or is it just me?
Why don't yall quarter weld is it for speed and production
Yes sir.
@@JacobSchofield I've been a pipe fitter and welder for 11years and just by watching your videos I've learned a lot about pipelining and just how different it is from what we do thanks for the videos we don't have much pipelining in South Carolina
Be man run 3/16 hypye
5/32 for girls
Dot 100 % xray
You didn't show prepare your root for the hot pass. Did you weld over the 6010 slag? Or did you chip and grind it out? GOOD STUFF MAN!!! just curious!
