You wake up, you're not sure why, but your wife has bought tickets to the Willy Wonka Experience. As you're driving, you realize that that's a fuckin scam, but it's too late. You're approaching and already paid when you see that you've been Willy Wonka'd
He even had a villain arc at the end of his life, where he claimed to have developed a glass battery with completely unrealistic properties, like the ability to self charge.
You guys should make a podcast series where you go over people people who contributed a lot to our society like Goodenough but in the same wacky manner. I would 100% listen to that. You actually introduced me to that man, and I will forever remember him.

Man, I remember me and my buds joking about John B. Goodenough when he first won the prize. I'm glad the official boys have come around. Better late than never.
I think you already succeeded in making the Nobel Prize exciting. The last part with John B. Goodenough was fantastic and I will remember his name forever now.
John was literally one of the reasons I got into engineering and science. He's the reason we have portable electronics and ram is so insanely important for storage and computers
I hope people never forget how Boogie lied dozens of times about his own abuse. He's so bad at keeping his stories straight that he's unintentionally told every possible combination of events involving every member of his family molesting and verbally and physically abusing him, despite him starting out accusing only one person.
As PhD student who wants to have a career in academia, I really appreciated their segment about the Nobel-prize. I'm always frustrated that the winners don't get the same kind of hype as athletes and actors (although I do get why that is). It would be really nice to have just the slightest cultural change towards appreciating science and scientist a little bit more.
John B. Goodenough was one bad mfer and had been an inspiration for me. Last time i heard he was working on a new kind of solid-state battery(iirc) research, and thought there'd be a breakthrough in a few years but i didn't know he passed in June last year. Rest in peace John B Goodenough, and best of luck to the research team.
Unfortunately a lot of his glass battery research was extremely flimsy. There was a fairly large scandal involving it as the paper passed peer review but looked like something a high school kid did. The only reason it passed peer review was because it had his name attached to it.
Awwww there are SO MANY ways to make B. GoodEnough or however it's spelled a great slogan... "You don't have to be a scientist or the president, you can be good enough" like support for people with mental problems into a commercial about the batteries. Someone saying either "our batteries may not power the whole planet, but they will ALWAYS be good enough for your everyday needs!" Or "there's no way anything being good enough is a good thing to say to someone" and then a lot of arguing and then it coming up with "we couldn't find a good slogan, so we hope this will be good enough" Or the amazing commercial of where someone is telling their wife they're good enough and she gets so mad makes a big scene belittling him and then it just ends with the batteries on screen saying "that may have been bad, but our batteries are good enough". And one where the B in his name stands for batteries and a commercial around how his name was weird, and then it ends with him having given the name to batteries after inventing it and his dad of few words and not many emotions comes up next to him and says "son, you are good enough" as a genuine compliment that is the nicest thing he has ever said to anyone
I used to work at a store in Anchorage that sold mammoth ivory and Alaskan artifacts and stuff. My boss had pictures of him with Steven Seagal who had come into the shop at one point (while filming a movie in Alaska). Apparently, Steven asked if he could buy the biggest Oosik (walrus penis bone) that they had in the store. My boss had one in his private collection that was long enough to be a cane, and he said he showed it to Seagal but said it wasn’t for sale. Then Steven Seagal offered him an insane amount of money for it, and my boss was like “Well I guess it’s yours now.” So somewhere, Steven Seagal has a giant walrus penis bone in his house. *I should mention that buying walrus penis bones isn’t that unusual in Alaska lol
Tbf the same goes for chemistry and physiology/medicine. Usually literature and peace take the backseat here (and with the peace prize it's absolutely understandable as well).
It would’ve been interesting to hear the boys talk about how the Unknown was actually a 16 year old girl who handpicked the costume herself from a store because none was provided. And how the whole event was spread through Facebook, posts which can still be found.
So I googled Steven Seagal, and not only is he buddy-buddy with Russia, but according to Google he is a Special Representative for Russia-US Cultural Links, Cultural and Historical Heritage. That is absolutely insane
Why did I get an ad for Starling Bank at the start of the spotify version of this episode but not on youtube? I have spotify premium so it was definitely part of the episode

im literally crying after hearing the good enough bit just imagining this accomplished scientist who built the lithium battery next to tony stark is the most hilarious thing ever especially the bit "john built this battery in a cave!" KEK made my whole fucking morning fucking legend john b good enough
1:17:47 Ironic since I did a brief look at John B Goodenough and his Wikipedia page, and he couldn’t get any funding for his work, so he ended up working for the UK atomic energy research and the terms were that he would get NO royalties. Unlucky I guess
I paid attention this time bc I always thought “it seems like all of Andrew’s jokes are just sarcastically acting surprised, disappointed, or confused…” I can confirm that was 100% of the jokes he made in this podcast. I don’t dislike him for it, just an observation.
We all need a little more John B. Goodenough. I also like how no one bothered looking up what the "B" in his name stands for, so it sounds like people are asking him to be Good Enough all the time.
An award for notable scientific discoveries and breakthroughs called The Goodenough Award would unironically be perfectly fitting. Moreso if they held it in some asian country.
Nobel prizes aren't either politicians or scientists, they're different categories that are selected regardless. Hell, the peace prize isn't even selected by the same country as the rest, Norway handles that one. People also talk about the prize winners and nominees all the time, you just don't pay attention to it because you're too busy browsing the farms. That's on you, friend.
They don’t care about the articles explaining how the discovery was made bc the writer of the article expends all their energy trying to sound as smart as possible making their article extremely difficult to digest for someone who’s not already a scientist that wouldn’t even need to read the article to begin with… it’s not their fault either, that’s how they were taught to write in school.
“JOHN BUILT THIS BATTERY IN A CAVE WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS”

John Goodenough won the nobel prize at 97. That is crazy.
They usually give out the Nobel prize very late, to make sure the work wasn't a fluke and it truly was something deserving of a Nobel prize
The Willy Chocolate Experience was something that the Ed Boys would come up with.
Sure but then again it would only be $.25 to get in, worth it for that price!
They would probably make more interesting tbh. Double D as an oompa loompa with Ed terrifying the guests as the horror villain.
