Thx for posting these old high light reels!
I was 6 years old watching these games on TV with my Dad.
Good days indeed!
All my child hood Packer heros! And they still are today! GO PACK GO 🏈
Thanks John ...... Terrific memories Here ........
The 1962 Packers almost had a perfect season. The Pack beat Detroit 9-7 in a key game at New City Stadium, but on Thanksgiving Day the Lions handed Green Bay
a 26-14 loss at Tiger Stadium. Bart Starr was sacked 12 times for 110 yards in losses.
I think I read about that Lions game that Alex Karras let QB Plum have it after the game because Plum threw the late interception which set up the Packers winning field goal.
I think that the defensive coach for Detroit Lions was Don Shula!
Yes! The next season he went on to be head coach of the Baltimore Colts.
The Lions felt that the Pack got lucky in the first game (they did) and were really pointing toward that rematch. They killed GB on Thanksgiving, for sure.
@@Mrm_Mario Don Shula was Detroit Lions Defensie Coordinator 1961-1962 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Shula
It is sad to see how many of these players we have had to say goodbye to.
They are all just about gone or are going soon.
@@smilanesi98 They brought great entertainment to NFL fans.
Why such sadness? Make happy comments.
Well it was 62 years ago.. the youngest are in their mid 80s now.
Practically every show/game in black and white era most actors/players are dead. In 10 years or less, we will be down to basically children actors from those TV shows still alive.
Great video! Thanks for sharing
If you’ve read “Run to Daylight,” it chronicles the week of preparation for the first game against the Lions in the 1962 season.
Great book.
Yes! I've been meaning to dig my copy out of my storage unit & read it again!
Read it back in the 60s. Loved it.
Thank you so much for sharing these. I will be sending my brothers to your channel.
Many consider the '62 Packers one of, if not the, most domiant of all time. 5 HOF on defense. Gave up 10.8 ppg. The Packers' +267 point differential (points scored vs. points against) in 1962 is the best total of any NFL team in the 1960s.
Fun fact: The Pack drafted Buck Buchanan in the 17th round in the 62 draft.
Thank you for posting!
And 6 HOF on offense!
@@James-ll3jb Dang! Of course I should have mentioned that. 👍
One of the great teams ,dang it!
Dowler and Jerry Kramer , a few others still around. Great to see them in their prime.
Adderley was so great. Blocked a FG and picked off a late 4th quarter pass to defeat the Lions 9-7.
...."Packers panning for points....." still a few of those alliterative phrases being used, but not nearly as much as 5 or 10 years prior to this. In a few more years, the whole face of football videos would transform.
This is one of the last of the old, classic football highlight videos.
After the 9-7 win over the Lions, I remember reading Alex Karras threw his helmet at Milt Plum in the locker room after the game.
I was 17 years old when this season was played. At the time I didn't realize I live in an era where the game was more important than the players.
One word about this team. Devastating.
Love your classic posts! Keep ‘em coming!
I noticed there wasn't a lot of hoopla when scoring a touchdown, when making a first down, a lot less unsportsmanlike conduct on display by the players. I wonder why they were not acting like the animals I see today?
You're correct about all the points you make. The negative flip side of this era of NFL was the blatant spearing, piling on, late hits and head shots to the QBs that went on.
The offensive lines were much better during this period. Because they played together much longer then as opposed to today's players.
As I recall, back then the Packers played one home game every season in Milwaukee.
Three
A number of players are in the promised land Rest peace
Hornung, Taylor, Pitts, Moore, Gros. Lombardi had a plethora of backfield weapons.
That's our boys
It’s amazing how the game used to be played. After a score or a turnover they still just get up and walk back to the sideline. Not all this Rara chest pounding shit you gotta watch today.
Love to see the Packers punk the Bears, even if it's 62 years ago!
Different era. Starr called his own plays, and players didn't do all the showboating so common nowadays.
Why would the Lions throw the ball when they had the lead?
I read that the Packers could have easily beat the Bears worse in the first contest but Lombardi made it a point to not put a 50 spot on George Halas, out of mutual respect.
Halas was the only man Lombardi called "Coach."
Can you imagine playing for a team that a mere 4 years earlier was by far the worst team and is now by far the best ever team ever in NFL history? It's called Lombardi Trophy for a reason. Vincent T Lombardi was a victim of racism throughout his career. When he finally got his chance? He did EVERYTHING he could to erase racism in the NFL. Vincent T Lombardi is by far the greatest coach the NFL has ever experienced. And he was a PACKER. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE GREEN BAY PACKERS BECAUSE WE ARE A LITTLE CITY KICKING ASS. AND? GB HAS LEAD THE WAY AGAINST RACISM.
I don't doubt that the NFL champion at this time would defeat the AFL champion, but to declare the NFL champion the world champion without an actual game between the respective champions is arrogant.
All u hear about is the 85 bears.
Bears won the NFL title game a year later, beating Y. A. Tittle and the New York Giants.
buy they never invite other countries to play, how can one be World champs ? now soccer, theirs a World Cup game...deserving of the title World Champ
Where butkus.
He didn't arrive until '65.
Packers were a divided team that Lombardi kept together.
Divided team? No. There were a few players, like Jimmy Taylor, who were not overly popular on the team. But they became like family. Lombardi united them, which is different than “kept them together”
Why didn't they show the Thanksgiving Day Massacre?
Miller put out 3 films per season, the first half, the second half of the season and a recap of the year. This must be the first film of the series.
Probably because the game wasn't a highlight.
Anybody know the name of the narrator of the game footage? I know the intro was by Chris Schenkel.
His name was Jim Leaming. He did these before NFL FILMS. Worked out of Philadelphia from 1954-71. Passed away around 1991.
Thanks for the answer. Now I know.
Why does every U.S. sporting comp call their winners World Champions? Obviously the NFL champs are the best, particularly as nobody else plays the friggin sport. But no other teams in the comp. Americans might reflect on how this sounds arrogant, dumb and insular to everyone else.
Because they are World Champions. There was no other football team better. Just the same as , for example, champions of the big Go tournamemts in China and Korea are called World Champion.
“World champions” lol
