This film is one of my all time favorites from NFL Films. ‘68 was a great NFL season, though well before my time. But experiencing it through films like this is great! It’s especially noteworthy how they were able to just let the music and clips tell the story with little-to-no no narration from 21:03 to the end.
This is when football was great! The fields were sloppy. The uniforms were dirty. They didn't wear gloves. This was PRO football! Today it's a bunch of college kids...
Funny. The mysterious music as the Jets beat the Colts. It rolled right as the NFL logo faded at the very end. That was the NFL showing it still didnt believe it lost in Super No. 3. Only those who were old enough to remember and understand can relate how big that Super Bowl loss was for the NFL
I think it was a big loss for the moment. But this great feat by the Jets saved both the Super Bowl and the NFL in the long run. It made the Super Bowl the true proving ground for all teams. It put Pro Football ahead of Baseball for good as THE National Sport. It gave the games added drama. It out the NFL on the path to being the best drama and entertainment bar none.
This was the year I started watching the NFL...sure the Browns, Colts, Cowboys, and Rams were the powerhouses but you could feel the 49'ers and the Vikings were are on the rise...also started ordering those great Dave Boss posters for the bedroom.
The Vikes were 8-6 that year. Green Bay's window had completely shut with Lombardi's retirement. San Fran was just a few key players short, which would be filled in 1970.
wrigley football .................. soooo cool ....................... lindsey nelson did some of the games back then ........................ thank u ed and steve sabol ....................... u are in a hall of fame by yourselves .
Crushed me when he was traded. I was 11 years old. We moved back home to KC. I rooted for Miami in the Christmas game because of Warfield. I take it back now. Doesn't help "we", Chiefs, still lose. Things have worked out. Still Brownies fan. Buckeye's too.
"In 1967 a record of 11 wins, one loss and two ties earned for the Baltimore Colts an entire season worth of agony and frustration. Consequently in 1968 the Colts snatched up that old, dry, bone and quickly beat the Rams over the head with it, and then they lay waste the NFL like Sampson among the Philistines." at 9:37 The following season, in 1969, the Los Angeles Rams won their first 11 games and never looked back winning the NFL Coastal Division.
But every Superman has his Kryptonite. The Colts found that out the hard way in SB III. The Jets were the Samson killers. And the Kryptonite for the Rams was a trend started in '69. With the Vikings and Cowboys taking turns knocking them from the Playoffs.
Perhaps if the games were close. But they got buried in both games. And Keep in mind the Vikings destroyed them 51-3 at the Met during the 69 season. Then did the same in the Title game to show it was no fluke.
@@patricksmith5282 I think that Super Bowl might have been rigged. Baltimore's first half performance in moving the ball intimated that they could have run the Jets into the ocean. The Cowboys, or Vikings, that year, could have beaten the Jets handily.
Does anyone know what song that starts playing at 19:17 - 21:02? I know it’s from the KPM library but don’t know the title, possibly by Syd Dale or Alan Hawkshaw.
Not sure. Could be something borrowed from a TV series, of something else. Early NFL Films music did this a lot. That was before Sam Spence came and put his own signature on NFL Films music.
FACENDA AND PRO BALL ................... NUFF SAID ............... TERRIFIC VIDEO ..................... ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN ......................
I love pro football before 1968, and I love pro football after 1968...... but I have to say that 1968 is my very favorite season. Just speaking for myself, 1990 was when pro football started going downhill, in almost every aspect, most especially with the abolishing of free-agency. Today's lily-white, indoor stadiums, and a bunch of unappreciative, kneeling fat-asses just isn't interesting to me anymore. God bless our pro football heroes from a bygone era.🏈
One of NFL Films' best films ever.
Fantastic film full of great old players and memories, the best uniforms and music!
Yes, sleeves on jerseys!
Anyone know the name of the tune at 5:28?
One of the greatest nfl seasons ever, great video
Absolutely - artistry completely absent since the 70s
One of the best NFL films ever, ...I Guarantee It

The music sequences. Best I've ever heard in an NFL Season Review. Hands down
One of NFL Films' best documentaries. Love the music, narration (except "rape" of Cleveland) This was the year the game won.
Yeah, that part was crazy!!
Classic NFL FILMS

4:00 That 60's music is too cool.
Killer soundtrack 😮😮😮😮😳😳😳😳😳😳🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
What is that initial music?? Awesome
The music is beyond fantastic.😊

The more I see of those Colts teams, the more I understand why they were expected to crush the Jets.

“Winning is gut pride”. Only John Facenda could have saved that line

The bitterness of the editing at the end was priceless 😂😂
15:55 I fell out of my chair just watching Paul Warfield....

@@brianbiechele1958 Warfield was traded and the Browns got the 3rd pick in the 70 draft.... Mike Phipps.... ouch....
@@yeildo1492 Oh I know. I've studied that draft. Seen who else Browns might have chosen. Fairly weak draft. Trade should never have been made.
Of course, we get the Purdue QB who doesn't pan out.
@@brianbiechele1958 I've been a Packer fan since the Lombardi days. The 70s and 80s were rough decades....

Looks like they didn't cover the diamonds at Wrigley when the Redskins was playing against The Bears.

When football 🏈 was REAL
The way the Browns would sleepwalk through those 1968, 1969 title games, you'd almost think the games were fixed.
Perhaps if the games were close. But they got buried in both games. And Keep in mind the Vikings destroyed them 51-3 at the Met during the 69 season. Then did the same in the Title game to show it was no fluke.
tommythomason6187, I felt the same way about Super Bowl 3, and still do.
@@patricksmith5282 I think that Super Bowl might have been rigged.

Browns played 2 very good teams. 2 great D's for sure. Chiefs showed Vikings offense mediocre.
Saw both games, their defense could be dominated by a strong running attack. Also, turnovers killed them both games.
2 former Syeelers QBs in the NFL tirle game- Nelsen and Morrall and a 3rd one - Unitas- on the sidelines. No wonder it took yrs until success.
Johnny Unitas never played a game for the Steelers, he was cut before he ever played a down for them
camera man is all about some T & A !! Hahahahaha
My nostalgia meter just blew up
25:21 cue the tragic piece of the song
“After the ‘rape’ of Cleveland?”
Fr, they really made him say that.
23:11 cue the change of music

The Saints should change their names to the "Freeze Dryers"
Freeze dryers?
How you get freeze dried in N.O. is anyone's guess.
The Saints have been the ones who have been freeze dried by the opponents many times
i could not stand sayyiing that bullshit about my team.
