Amazing car. Proud Lexus family here. Father: 1996 LS 400 with 240k miles; Aunt: 2009 RX 350 90k miles; Sister: 2013 GS 350 60k miles; myself: 2007 LX 470. Thank you Lexus for creating such terrific cars. Great job Alex. Thank you for your hard work.
I have two dogs so the 3rd row SUV is a must. I have a lot of fun going camping with it. It does extremely well (Michelin Defender all season tires) going offroad and light mudding. And it's way more comfortable and quieter than my friend's 4runner. Also a snow conqueror living in the north east of USA. Driving by my neighbor's Porsche SUV being stuck in the snow gives me a good chuckle every time. Beside being terrible on gas (I achieved 19mpg highway vs book claim 17), the LX470 is a gem. Built like tank and have that classy look that I adore. It has 96k, so I have a few more decades to go. :D
No need to reason your vehicle choice to some douche nozzle on YT. He tries to insult you with bad english and fails. I would have wrote him off. Very nice of you to answer him, though.
Drove the 2018 LC and LS 500 yesterday. We also had 10 competitors there at the track to compare. Lexus is a force to recon with for sure. Power, fit and finish and ease of use of the technology goes to LEXUS again.
It amazes me how well the content, narration and editing that is put into this channel. I might know a great deal about cars, but Alex is like a walking textbook on this subject.
So they just let all the auto journalists get time on these, and by far, this is the most comprehensive, detailed, and informative review so far. Great job as usual Alex. You really deserve more subs.
Great review. I’m a 2009 ls460 L owner and with close to 80k miles it’s been trouble free. We also have a 2002 lx470 with 180k trouble free miles. Great vehicles as long as you do the required maintenance.
Love the way you take time and review cars in such details and do this effortlessly. Nice job. Of course it helps if you have a beauty like the LS 500 to review, it helps :)
I’ve got a 2018 Lexus LS with the executive package by far the best car I’ve ever owned love driving it daily puts a smile on my face and ppl looking at it from outside. Best car I’ve ever owned
My wife is really liking the Kuroko glass. Very nice. I'd half a mind to buy this for her with that option alone. This will be our third and last Lexus. A retirement car if you will.
Excellent job, Alex👍 I have an LS430, I was eagerly awaiting this newest version. However I usually wait a few years for the depreciation hit to lower the price.😊 But if I was buying new with a warranty, I think the new S-Class has a much more beautiful interior. But if buying outside the warranty period, the LS would be the better choice.
I'm also a Lexus owner. I'm on my third one, this time a 2017 RX350. A great SUV, if not one of the best in the world. This new LS500 is just beautiful. Great review, Alex.
"A great SUV, if not one of the best in the world" What? The RX is nothing worth to talk about, If anything you can say it is one of the top 3 worst handling crossovers EVER.
I own a 2016 RX450h and I have to say I can't agree with you. I should NOT get torque steer and wheel spin in a $60k SUV. I have driven the Mercedes GLE and it's a much more refined vehicle (riding on a much older platform). If it wasn't for reliability and wanting a hybrid, I wouldn't have chosen the Lexus. But I am optimistic about the LS and hope to trade up within 2-3 years when I find a CPO f-sport
Mercedes' GLE is riding on the W166 platform that dates back to the 2012 model year. Your 2016 RX450 is riding on Toyota's K platform that dates back to the 2002 model year Camry, a full DECADE older than the W166 platform. When your 2016 RX450h was available for sale, the platform was already 14yrs old.
Traded a current model Audi A8L for a LS500H. Glad I did, the quality is stunning and the Lexus LS is a truly phenomenal car. The safety features and the semi autonomous drive function is truly amazing as well, wish you would have mentioned them.
Honestly, I was appalled when I was the front grill and appalled all over again when I saw the interior. OMG those knobs sticking out the side of the instrument cluster. And so many buttons, everywhere you look.
What Mercedes, what BMW had both brands and drove for over 2 years for each. Lexus is light years ahead in value and reliability and comfort. Great vehicles indeed. As for the Germans, you need to sell when warrantee is over.
By reading all these comments in this video I have came to the conclusion that majority of people do think this 2018 LS500 is a great looking car. I am also one of those people who really likes this car and the direction Lexus is headed. Those who don't like it are either too old and refuse to accept changes or too young and not open minded enough to realize that this is an awesome performing and looking flagship car. Me "Throws Money" at my phones screen. I want one!
Hi Alex, enjoyed the review. I'm especially pleased that your newer reviews go more in-depth when talking about VEHICLE QUIETNESS. Specifically the engine and exhaust noise. Since I absolutely HATE any kind of engine or exhaust noise, could you confirm for me that this LS 500 (non-hybrid model) is indeed "virtually silent" as it appears from your test drive in this video?? In the video, you did "rev" the LS 500h and it appeared to make a horrendously loud sound, and you did make a specific note of that. I was shocked because I expected the hybrid's powertrain to be quieter than the regular model. So, for me the hybrid has been struck off the list. That is an absolute deal breaker!! Very oddly, it was an extremely pleasant surprise to see that the regular TT V6 hardly made any noise at all, but I don't know how far you "revved" it. I'm more interested to see if it is "nearly silent" up to about 4K-ish RPM. I was about to abandon Lexus for the Genesis G90 V8 ultimate for this very reason, but this TT V6 gives me hope!! (my 2000 LS 400 and my cousin's 2005 LS 430 have engines/exhausts that are DEAD quiet and DEAD smooth. By comparison the LS 460 is *not* that quiet or smooth).
There is no way that this car will sell in the same way that the original Ls 400 sold back in 1990. You can thank people's obsession for crossovers for that among other things like design.
An undisputed pinnacle of our team of engineers', designers' and takumis' (master artisans and craftsmen) capabilities. LEXUS will become the best selling luxury brand in my country of the United States in very near future. It is not a matter of "if" but "when." Our engineers and designers finally have the freedom and independence to use their own ideas and imagination to bring out the most amazing design concepts, put them down on paper and submit them for approval to the top management of LEXUS. As an important mention, the fact that Akio Toyoda is passionate about LEXUS, gives the marquee his sincere and unwavering support, has been crucially important behind the turnaround of LEXUS models' line-up design. Akio publicly stated that the criticism of LEXUS, in terms of 'being boring and not a driver's car" would end very soon. As everyone can see for themselves, LEXUS have lived up to their chief officer's promise, and thus all new models, starting with NX crossover and going on to LS 500, have begun to come out with truly impressive and sleek designs as well as handling and performance, which easily match any automaker in the world. Yet, what other marquess lack, which is reliability, resale value, build quality, as well as the famous serene, whisper quiet ride, have always been LEXUS trademarks and the reasons behind why buyers would have purchased LEXUS vehicle in the first place. There is no stopping of LEXUS now, they will keep plowing through, running over competitors, just as they just did with this unmatched, unparalleled masterpiece of a vehicle called LEXUS 500. Our engineers and designers managed to pull off the most difficult task there is for any manufacturer - to combine the superior handling and performance with a superior, luxurious ride comfort, which is something that can be accomplished only with a team of fully dedicated and proud geniuses in their respective categories.
AmericaFirst very true statement and very well said and Lexus as a brand is still the most reliable brand out there according to the latest reviews from consumer reports and jdpowers and associates independent study and that s all facts
A decent and thorough review. I would just like to clarify that the GS doens not use the same hybrid system like the aforementioned NX, Prius, ect. It has a secondary planet gearset as well. This 500h drivetrain has a 4 speed auto instead of the secondary gearset
Lexus did say there would be hand writing recognition for the touch pad, please make further inquiries. I remember when this car was unveiled the Lexus spokesman at DMS said that clearly. This new Ls 500 is just the best overall in its class right now. The heads up display is just incredible and it's high definition quality. The glass and pleats design available make this new Ls the best in its class with luxury details and quality. I can't wait till they drop a new turbo V8 down the line. This new Ls already beats the 0-60 time of the s500 or 560 which is 4.8 secs and that has a twin turbo V8 while the Lexus has a V6 twin turbo. This new Ls is a masterpiece with tech, luxury, comfort and performance. You didn't state that the 28 way adjustable seats is the most available in its class as well. Lexus really did go far and beyond this time. You also need to update the video, the touch pad control for the infotainment system does offer hand writing recognition. I have seen that demonstrated in other videos.
Nice review . Not the car for me, but nice review. Way too many buttons (button-o-rama) and that touch pad would be maddening when driving. I like cars that are fun to drive so not my cup of tea. The GS comes closer, but still the controls drive me crazy. Sure, it will have great reliability but you pay for it.
is the car of my dreams, someday I can have one, I do not lose hope, if God allows me and I am healthy I will fight to have it, everything that one proposes, fighting can achieve it, great video Alex, very detailed
This will be our five Lexus ‘s which was order February 1 and has not come in yet .We’ve had Three RX , one GS 430 and the new LS500.I must say we’ve never had any trouble with them.
As usual, a great review well done. Beautiful car but that instrument/speed cluster is just way to small. Everyone else is doing a 12 inch. Looks strange being that little. It is not just about looking at the HUD instead, it is about just seeing the huge screen. They should go with a full LCD 12 inch unit. The audi and Merc are amazing having the all LCD screens. Even the Genesis G90 has a 12 inch
No android/apple car play? It looks like Lexus is putting it's eggs in the china market with the "limo" like shape. That red Lexus F-sport at the start? I really wanted to see that one!
@Alex It was not clear to me why the ride score for the Hybrid and V6 were different. Also, while driving the Hybrid, there seemed to be excessive road noise in the form of very audible "clunks" coming from the suspension. I did not hear those same clunks during the V6 drive segment. Was this just unfortunate microphone placement, really poor roads or is the Hybrid really that much less isolated than the V6?
Nice review as always. Wanted to clarify a couple things: * In the title, shouldn't it say "500 h" instead of "400 h"? * You said the hybrid model is half a second slower to 60 MPH. Shouldn't it be 5.1 seconds to 60, not 6.1?
I think you might have an issue with the acceleration numbers in your overlay graphic. You have the normal LS at 4.6 seconds, and then you mention in the video that the hybrid is half a second slower, but the hybrid acceleration in the graphic overlay says 6.1 seconds. 6.1 - 4.6 = 1.5 seconds difference, not .5 second difference.
It's interesting most people who can afford this car and that buy it is definitely of a certain age group and I'm sure they don't give a hoot about 0-60 why do you guys stress this 0-60 no one rally cares, with that said I still love your reviews thank you
I read several car magazines trashing the transmission of this hybrid, to the point where I kind of lost interest in this car. Even CR is not favorable about this car and gave it subpar rating, though they did not point out anything negative in terms of reliability. But Alex did not mention anything about a "poor performing" transmission and a "overly busy" engine. In the video it didn't appear that the engine & transmission didn't "know" what it was doing. Is it safe to say that once again lots of testers from those car magazines just don't know how to drive a CVT? I have a CVT in my Toyota hybrid and I am quite content with it, though I am a conservative driver and seldom go beyond 75% of its potential. This LS is now also available as a used car on the market, and like other high end cars, it depreciates a lot. I think I am going to take a close look again into this car (Corona permitting) and who knows if I end up getting a nice CPO. Any input from an actual LS500H owner would be appreciated. One note, Alex, according to Lexus, 0-60 is 5.1 sec, not the figure in your video
@@normt5463 I came to know that this car is trailing the Germans in terms of "driving engagement", infotainment system (mouse pad in Lexus) and performance. When it comes to reliability, the Lexus tops the Germans (and it has always done so). I got a CPO LS 500H. It drives great in my view. I don't care it loses couple of tenths of a second 0-60 because I don't drive like that. I am a slow driver. There is NOW WAY I would ever buy a 7-series, S class or an A8. These care become money pits after a while. The stats don't lie.
@@Imran-Shah all cars are realibale today. So that advantage that Toyota and Lexus used to have is gone. Plus looking at Lexus LS lease residuals are not as good as say a Cadillac CT6 by about 6-8%. forums.edmunds.com/discussion/53149/lexus/ls-500/2019-lexus-ls-lease-deals-and-prices TMC is just that good of investment today.
@@normt5463 "All cars are reliable today..." Well, I beg to differ and the stats don't back up your claim either. Fiat-Chrysler is NOT reliable by today's standards, and the Germans are only reliable if you are willing to spend a ton of money on maintenance. Toyota/Lexus still holds an edge, especially in the long run. And don't try to tell me that a Cadillac depreciates less than a Lexus (or ANY luxury car for that matter).
@@Imran-Shah tell my Toyota lovin father in law about his 2012 Camry V6 that at 70K miles seized the engine with a broken cam sprocket to the tune of $4,000 on his $8,500 car? Cars are mostly reliable today, but even Toyota's have their problems. Not too many will leave you stranded like decades ago.
It's SO fugly, I like it, especially the brown car's grille mesh. Looks like something a Klingon from "Star Trek Discovery" would want to drive, if one came to Earth and needed wheels.
I also don't see the value in the hybrid. It now only gains you 5 MPG over the V6. The Audi TDi is more efficient overall (24/36), and a better value. This will be about 1 second faster than the Audi. The hybrid only makes sense if you can get 30 MPG or morel regularly.

It is not just about looking at the HUD instead, it is about just seeing the huge screen. They should go with a full LCD 12 inch unit. The audi and Merc are amazing having the all LCD screens. Even the Genesis G90 has a 12 inch
I wish there was more LC500 styling cues in this. Imagine a 4 door coupe version of the LC 500
The front is making me think of when Acura was doing the "beak" thing.
No android/apple car play? It looks like Lexus is putting it's eggs in the china market with the "limo" like shape. That red Lexus F-sport at the start? I really wanted to see that one!
Great review. When you doing new Audi A8 review?
Hey Alex, next time you go through Nicasio, you should stop at the Nicasio Valley Cheese Company. You passed it in this video.
Finally Got to drive one of these it's a beautiful car But the interface controller is a complete joke
Nice review as always. Wanted to clarify a couple things:
* In the title, shouldn't it say "500 h" instead of "400 h"?
* You said the hybrid model is half a second slower to 60 MPH. Shouldn't it be 5.1 seconds to 60, not 6.1?
Great in-depth review!
Great review.
Nice vehicle. I would have to take a one month class just to figure out all the extra buttons and controls. And probably still have a problem lol
1:24 I wonder what is the most attractive between this grill or the one on the '34 chrysler airflow
This car looks good!
What about demonstrating the Sat navigation as I hear it's difficult and troublesome!
It's interesting most people who can afford this car and that buy it is definitely of a certain age group and I'm sure they don't give a hoot about 0-60 why do you guys stress this 0-60 no one rally cares, with that said I still love your reviews thank you
Hybrid a half second slower? Should be 5.1 instead of 6.1
Tan N the car actually goes 0-60 in 4.5
Amaazing video.. ilovedit. Very direct and descriped well
Lexus is the most reliable car on earth.
Your Channel TAKES THE CAKE for the CHEESIEST Intro of ALL TIME.. however Nice review as always, andAWESOME car.
Someone please take a large trout and beat the inventor of the spindle grill into submission.
Damn beautiful car
OMG, this is DOPE af!
So between this ls500 and the new Mercedes S-Class which car has better ride quality and quiet cabin?
UA-cam reviewers never say anytime ill ng bad about the LS. But as you have found out CR ranks this last place with a 52 out of 100.

TMC is just that good of investment today.
Any chance you will drive the LC? :)
That front end, especially the lights, look like someone went to town with a katana
It's SO fugly, I like it, especially the brown car's grille mesh. Looks like something a Klingon from "Star Trek Discovery" would want to drive, if one came to Earth and needed wheels.
Why does the car beep at you while you're in reverse? That's such a counterintuitive design.
I also don't see the value in the hybrid. It now only gains you 5 MPG over the V6.
The Audi TDi is more efficient overall (24/36), and a better value. This will be about 1 second faster than the Audi.
The hybrid only makes sense if you can get 30 MPG or morel regularly.
some people want a hybrid for the driving perks, driving alone in the car pool lane, and things like that
