I once volunteered in operations there, under the supervision of Brian Wise. I would love to again be a volunteer as this remarkable historic treasure reopens!
www.wfim.org/join-us-1 We'd love to have you volunteer! What a treasure trove of knowledge and experience the organization has had in the past. We're working on creating a volunteer mailing list and collecting an "inventory" of skills - visit the website page, there's a form to sign up to volunteer or just join our mailing list. Thanks Steve!
We'd love to as the territory over Divide is gorgeous, but there are two significant washouts in the way. Our primary focus will be restoring equipment and getting the track to Eatonville operational first.
Its great to see this historic piece of history finally getting re-opened. I do have a question though, are there plans to re-open the full length of the line? I remember reading previously and when i rode on it previous times there had been a washout further up the line and thus trains were not able to make the full trip between Elbe and i think it was mineral or divide.
We've got a few washouts between Divide and Morton - we're prioritizing restoration of the line into Eatonville as that will provide connection to the national rail network (via Frederickson into Tacoma). We'll see what happens next! The line over Divide is beautiful!
@@mtrainierrail Good to hear, and since you guys are restoring the section heading down to tacoma. Is it wrong to assume that you guys will likely be doing some excursion trains down there every now and then?
Great question! We're not quite sure yet - we're in the process of applying for grant funding which will assist in the design. Our vision includes a super interactive museum with many "moving" displays, rather than the "old school" static displays. We want something folks can see and touch and enjoy, in a park-like setting.
Hello. Are you going to restore the steam locomotive in front of the depot in Elbe? That's my favorite steam locomotive at the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad. I'm hoping to see that one in operational condition one day. Maybe it will run soon.
Our priorities for restoration will be the 70, the 17, the 2, and one other "mystery" locomotive. The 10 would be a huge project and being frank, would likely cost significantly more than $1 M to restore! We love it, but realistically, we can have 3 locomotives up and running, and be partway through a 4th for the same cost associated with getting the 10 up and running. We don't want to promise anything that we can't deliver. But! Never say never - miracles do happen!
@@mtrainierrail Thank you for your reply. I'm excited to see the railroad return to operation. I bet the "Mystery Locomotive" is the # 5, my second favorite locomotive at the Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad!
The narration of the associations mission and vision saddens me with it lack of tangible substance in comparison to Murray’s original. Hopefully they will find their way thru the maze they have envisioned
Sorry to hear that Eric. We're curious to hear what you think lacks tangible substance? Our mission and vision are clearly laid out on our website, www.wfim.org/our-present. While we remain incredibly dedicated to preserving and operating the railroad, we are also dedicated to telling a more complete and contextualized history of railroading and logging in the area near Mt. Rainier.
Now I am really glad I have put up my videos of the Mt rainier Scenic from 1989. GREAT OPERATION!
The boss' 2-year old is loving them (seriously)!

Where is your ear protection when operating a chainsaw! Looks like a great route for the rail bikes.

🤨
I personally knew Mr. Murray, and I can tell you what is happening is more his vision than he was ever able to achieve.
