@@davidp7833 It's called a string butler. Uncle ben use to run one on his other Les Paul but I don't think he does anymore.

My son works at the Gibson factory in Nashville, TN. He makes sure any flaws in the finish are eliminated before the guitars get to the final stages. He probably had his hands on your “Black Beauty.” They have really tried hard to turn things around there at Gibson and I think they have. Hope you love yours, as much as I love mine. Rock On!

@@shelbychilingirian1479I just bought a Les Paul Tribute and it’s about 90% as well playing/sounding as my Suhr’s. I wasn’t planning on buying a Gibson but this guitar blew my mind. Huge improvement from when I played them several years ago.
That opening jam sounded like a vintage Alice in Chains song. I could hear Layne singing along in my head. So rad, dude.

I was thinking the same. I've never really liked the Les Paul-feel, but I've only ever played an Epiphone. I prefer shred machines with thinner necks and lighter bodies.

That is the exact guitar I've had - and loved - for decades. And now to really date myself: my black Gibson LP Custom with gold hardware purchased brand new, way, way back in the day cost a grand total of $600. Oh, how times have changed!
Not really, $600 in the late 60's or 70's would be about $5k today.
I remember my parents bought a brand new car in 1969 for $2500.
Dude, I've always said, you can't go wrong with an American guitar & British amp. Match made in heaven.
Pretty sure the 490 and 498 are the same pickups on my '98 LP Studio. I've had it for 15 years and it is still the best sounding axe I own.

A month ago I bought my dream guitar, a Les Paul custom shop Black Beauty. It is the most inspirational guitar I have ever owned and a riff creation monster!
I had one in the late 80s. Got a job and saved up and got a black mid 80s Les Paul Custom and I was so stoked with it. I lost it in a fire (bushfires went through the area we lived in 1991). It's still the best guitar I ever owned.
The aesthetic of this instrument that can either fit in with the tuxedo-jazz-cat crowd, or dominate metal like a cold & professional hit- man. The name on the headstock may polarize the opinions of some, but I cannot deny that the design has a mojo that has worked enough to create big hits by artists who definitely know what they are doing. This elusive mojo may very well be much more important than affordable perfection because we need guitarists to be songwriters again. When a guitar inspires you to write real music, go for it! Awesome riff, and a very hearty congratulations!

In 1992 , I was 18 working a fast food job and never thought in my wildest dreams that I would own a Les Paul custom, but I was able to work out a deal with my local music store for a White 1990 model and I’ve still have it to this day! So I completely understand your excitement! Awesome guitar!

Got a Black LPC myself, except with nickel hardware and pickups. I love the contrast on the black finish with "silver" hardware. Nothing beats an LPC imo

AIC-style intro complete with 7/8 time. Beautiful Black Beauty Ben -- congrats! As far as combo of LP and amps used -- for straight up ball crushing tone the Rectifier is tops for me, but the BE100 sounds amazing and I love that tone. Gotta have both! My first time hearing the Badlander -- it definitely sounds good but, I don't know,...I like the authenticity of the other two. You're riffing soloing madness sounded equally good on it though.
Hey Ben...I have the exact same one purchased in 1992. My wife bought it for me as a wedding present and will never sell it. Its a fantastic guitar and plays better than it did day over 30 years later. Have fun with it!

Def Alice in Chains vibe in that opening riff. Sounds like some of the more modern infused Alice too. Sick stuff.
498s are alnico 5, wound to around 13-15 k-ohms. The 490s are alnico 2 and wound to 7-8 k-ohms.
I'm a metal guy, and love the badlander. But... with your amazing playing, that Friedman sounded so F'ing good with that thing. Damn

The 498 in the bridge measures about 14.5k and has an A5 magnet, the 490 in the neck is an A2, and should be about 7.5-8k. My custom is definitely my number 1. Such amazing fiddles.

And it's bought from a great retailer like Sweetwater, then QC and setup will never be an issue, no matter what a certain angry Canadian man ranting on brands may say.
Ever since I watched your video on Les Paul, I've been trying to get one, then my dream got shattered from its price. But, then today I just received an ESP LTD EC 1000, Burl Poplar top, great look, not a bad tone. Thanks for the the Great description!

My dream guitar too...I remembered seeing it in the 80s guitar mags. I had a black Standard(wrecked it with a Kahler bridge...BAD idea) and wanted a black Custom. I eventually got one in 1995 for $2200 and have not looked back since. I also have a Zakk Wylde Custom Shop and with EMGs it kicks any Custom up a notch. Still prefer my black Custom tho.

My dream guitar is exactly the same! Black Les Paul Custom. I was/am a huge Ace Frehley fan but was always drawn to the Black Custom. Bought mine back in the early 2000s
I totally agree with Ben's comment of, 'Gibson is back'. Since the new team has been running the show, the guitars are definitely way more consistent. Even during the dark periods for the company, they still made amazing guitars...but there definitely was some hit or miss things getting through their quality control. I have bought 2 new LPs since the new crew started operating..and unlike the 1 I bought during the Henry era, I have kept the new ones. They are lifetime guitars to me. a 22 Tribute and a 21 Standard...lefties.
I just got a 120 th anniversary, haven’t had a les Paul since I was in my teens , at first it was a bit strange ,but I’ve realized it’s a tone machine 🤘🏻🎸😎

Like you, my dream guitar is the mighty Les Paul Custom. I stumbled upon mine at Guitar Center in Cincinnati. Vintage 82 with a gorgeous orange and red sunburst and Tim Shaw pickups.. With new stainless steel frets, plays like nothing else.
Ben you have the best intros. Always played the Epiphone version of this. It's my all time favorite guitar.

Always been a dream guitar for me as well ever since early 2000s In Flames. Can't afford the real deal but I have a black Japanese made Tokai LP Custom with the seemingly more rare ebony fretboard option. So I feel your excitement! I swapped out the pups for a SD '59 and Custom. Thing is a beast!

Uncle Ben, Yup, i can tell you are loving the guitar! I had a very old Gibson Black Les Paul, I played it for years, gigged hundreds of times, beat it all to heck, sold it. Planned on getting another one, but you know THEY AIN"T CHEAP! My stepdad said maybe I can get one, if I get a job and buy it myself, So I guess i will just paint mt good old Teisco black.
Sweet spot for me was the Friedman. Congrats man. New guitar day is the best fun you can have with your clothes on.

Snagged a Gibson Les Paul Axcess with Floyd Rose in VOS black. Took 10 years off my life working OT like crazy but when I got it and plugged it in and played my first chord on it, I was in heaven. There’s definitely a feel and vibe to a guitar like this that you don’t quite ‘get’ until it’s in your hands. Good luck with your baby. Beautiful.

I'll never forget the day my older brother showed me We Die Young by AIC. As soon as I heard that, I knew that was the tone I needed to obtain.
Nothing chugs like the Les Paul. Greatest Artist Signature guitar. Love the Friedman tones.
YASSSSS LOUDNESS! Akira freakin' rules. I love this look, too, but I had to go the inexpensive route: a black w/gold LTD EC-256, which turned out to be much better than I expected for the $$$.

is it a custom shop or weight relieved trash ?
@@carmineredd1198 Late reply but '57 Custom Reissue does not have weight relief, body is one piece of mahogany with carved top. Normal Customs have maple cap and 9 hole weight relief, its not trash just has brighter tone and slim neck. I prefer darker tone and chunky 50s neck.
