Hi team, love the video, sad for me as I lived in Cookham for a year and travelled many times on the weekends to Windsor, loved the journey. Now living in Sydney, so, great to bring back the memories. Thank you so much.
Brought back memories of driving through cookham on a daily basis many many years ago and its still stunning by the look of it ..but I bet those millionaires don't even notice the vista anymore...while we're walking around dragging our chins on the ground in awe...magic vlog folks...👍👍🍺🍺
I’ll have that one, that one, that one oh and that one!🤣 To be able to live in one of these properties, fortunate indeed. Agree on the cleaning Julie 😝. Thanks for sharing. Xx
Wahay! Maidenhead! My old stomping ground. I know most of those big houses on the approach to Brunells sounding arch. They are on the very exclusive Fisheries Estate. Most of the folks who live there you would know from TV, films, radio or just pop stars. Obviously I can't tell you who or exactly where as they like their privacy as much as us normal plebs! I only know as I was a gardener to 50% of the properties along the river side back in the day! Happy memories. 😁
@@WeirontheMove Ha ha bless her......think she's allowed to steal our biscuits....naughty Queen ha ha.....stay safe......watch out for mad canoeists.....
Since moving onto N/B 'Misty J' (40'). I haven't really looked at a house and think may-be? I now feel more contented with my life, without a house (mental health improvement), plus side to boating lifestyle No Grass/Hedges to cut, if unhappy with my view / I can simply move on to a different area (freedom), no rates to pay, water /sewage (if your not pump out) electricity - battery/hook up (which makes you wiser, on energy used / water used as well). Of course there are down sides , blacking, BSC inspections, but over all, But te biggest thing I have found is after 24 years in a village (was I only spoke to 4 people) now there are whole rafter of people who now I speak too
Hi guys.... thanks for sharing that lovely cruise... I would love to travel on the Thames like that... maybe one when my ship comes in and I'm at the harbour and not the airport which usually happens...lol... keep safe until the next one...
Q. When it comes to winter, and the almost inevitable Floods ... how would you go about accessing and leaving your boat? Or do you move into a marina for a few months? I remember as a kid, the Thames flooded very regularly, bursting the banks quite significantly each year and access to moored up boats was impossible. I know a couple years ago now, VAST swathes of the Thames Banksides were decimated. At Henley, all the memorial benches were swept away and the islands were unrecognisable afterwards. A few boats SUNK as well and bouys had to be tied to them to let boaters know where NOT to go when the floods receded :-(
You mentioned Bray Studios well I'm going to be a bore again, my elder brother was the stunt man for Meat Loaf on the Rocky Horror Picture Show that was filmed there in 1975. He also drove an E Type across Tower Bridge with the bridge partly open in the John Wayne film Brannigan. To cap it off we both worked on The Eagle Has Landed filmed at Mapeldurham. I had a great New Year staying at Cliveden 1993/4. Will you please get off the Thames as your bringing back too many memories, good ones I may add. I've lived on it, sailed on it, worked under it and walked under it several times a week for a year. I was even born at Kingstone Upon Thames hospital.
Hi Mark and Julie when you return down the Thames ease up on the throttle under Brunel's Bridge and just clap y.our hands Twice and enjoy the ECHOooooooo.
What a wonderful episode! I really enjoyed seeing the beautiful mansions along the river. Have you made up a map of all the canals you can visit with your wide beam? We are really trying to see if we can realistically do this. We both really want to. I'm not sure how a narrowboat would work, since I make almost every craft know to man or woman. I think a shorter widebeam boat would serve us better than a longer narrowboat. Also easier to manage, I think. Thank you so much for this entry. Julie, I am hoping to start my watercolor project in the next week or so!!! God Bless. Sue
Just amazing houses but like you Julie I would hate the housework. Although they probably have someone do it! I went to Greenwich on a boat on the Thames is that near Cookham?
It always got laugh at work, what did you do on the bank holiday? Took the dog to Boulters Lock / Ray Mill Island for an ice cream. Not this year unfortunately. Did you notice the terracing for gongoozlers at the lock.
Hi guys! Excellent video yet again. Just one question - are the speed limits a bit higher on the River Thames or is that just an illusion? Cheers from Scotland. brian
I thought I recognised Oakley Court. According to Wikipedia "It is perhaps best known as Dr. Frank N. Furter's castle (called The Frankenstein Place) in (1975)." Oh baby!
@@WeirontheMove Actually, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring Susan Sarandon was filmed there. I stayed at this hotel a couple of times . The service and the food at that time was quite good.
Cleaning of the houses aside, what happened to them when the river floods? They are beautiful anyway. Some of our rivers go 20 feet above flood. Watching from NE Ohio.
Sorry guys a little tiny complaint .The first part of this vlog when you were just chatting sound level was very low such that I couldn't hear you properly but when you went outside i t was so loud I had to turn my volume control right back .I was just previously watching Well deck Diaries and their sound was quite normal.I know you'll look into this.I love your vlogs and follow you every week
Somebody else said that. For some reason the sound distorted in the first section and we don't know why. We recorded using the same mics as usual and in the same format. Sorry about that.
You keep moving to the next 48hr mooring. You need to travel to water points etc. so you work it all in. You can stay longer on National Trust land and other land but pay a mooring charge, one farmer used to come round at 6am for his fiver mooring fee, he said if he called later the boats would be gone. I used to moor up to pubs have a cooked meal and a few pints, no charge for mooring plus no washing up.
CERTAINLY SOME AMAZING HOMES DOWN THERE...AT AMAZING PRICES...
Only for the wealthy

Sydney doesn't sound too bad, Mike, but Cookham and the Thames is lovely
We have the exact same conversation when we go past those big houses in Bray.
There are too many wealthy people by this river. It opens your eyes to how the other half live
Stil loving watching all your vidios
Still loving you watching them, Linda
Love your vlogs love the cookam one.
Thank you 😊

Thanks, Kevin. After seeing the miserable sods in their £500,000 cruisers, I suppose the rich folk are downright miserable.
yep ..nothing to look forward or aspire to...they have it all...not..
More flower pots to cover the roof will stop the boat heating up in the sun. Go Julie!
It's getting that we can't move for plants
Everything about the Thames says Money Money Money, still it looks absolutely Beautiful .
It certainly does, Mick
very beautiful journey
Thanks a lot, Jean-Louis

Great vlog, people drop things in the canal a lot I hear, maybe you should consider a lanyard for your glasses. Would hate to see you loose them!!🤣🤣🤣

more lovely music which I didn't know plus my old favorite, thanks! great vid!

We only travel the Thames in the summer. In the winter, we use the canals as they don't flood, Pete

Probably true, Alex.

No, it way down the river past the city and onto the tidal stretch.
It always got laugh at work, what did you do on the bank holiday? Took the dog to Boulters Lock / Ray Mill Island for an ice cream. Not this year unfortunately. Did you notice the terracing for gongoozlers at the lock.
We did. There were a few people watching, Roger.
I believe Cookham's most famous son was Uhtred.
would that be Uhtred the Bold by any chance?
Hi guys! Excellent video yet again. Just one question - are the speed limits a bit higher on the River Thames or is that just an illusion? Cheers from Scotland. brian
Hi Brian, the speed limit on the Thames is 8 MPH we think, which iOS double the canals max speed.
I thought I recognised Oakley Court. According to Wikipedia "It is perhaps best known as Dr. Frank N. Furter's castle (called The Frankenstein Place) in (1975)." Oh baby!
We did not know that. Great bit of information

Some of them do flood, and some are built on stilts that have run offs below. Most are raised up the bank in the old fashioned way.

would you consider traveling north by the ocean to access the northern canals?
We aren't sure. Maybe one day
do you have any footage of the canal area in Weybridge? My mum used to go to Weybridge as a young girl and spoke of a canal
We took a look at the entrance to the river Why but didn't get any footage
Sound 'inside' appeared to be single channel (left), but didn't distract from the content :-)
Agreed but still a good one.
Sorry for the sound malfunction. Not quite sure how it happened
@@WeirontheMove Don't be sorry, these things happen.
Not quite sure how that happened, given that we recorded using the camera mic as well as am external mic. Sorry about that. It hasn't happened before.
Weir on the Move I think we are picky rather than technical 😎 👍
Beautiful cruising video. I have motorhome and we have never ran out of power or gasoline, I’m anal
Thank you, Richard
You mention mooring for a week or two. Watching many Vlogs. They speak of only 48 hour moorings. How do you manage.
You keep moving to the next 48hr mooring. You need to travel to water points etc. so you work it all in. You can stay longer on National Trust land and other land but pay a mooring charge, one farmer used to come round at 6am for his fiver mooring fee, he said if he called later the boats would be gone.

Good tips
Do you get bored of having to do the same stretch of waterways?
We have quite a lot of miles of canal and river to travel, Kelly. And the view is always changing. Bored? Never!
How would you compare your grocery costs on the boat cruising to living in a house? Taking into account less storage and less choices for shopping.
It's about the same. Remember, in a house you are always popping to the shops but on a boat you don't have that luxury
