I've read similar comments like this on other band's vocalists, but Marcus's evolution is actually insane. I remember watching live footage from 2022 after discovering them with Heavener in 2023 and I gotta say I was pretty disappointed. He was honestly shockingly bad (I later found out that most metal vocalists don't sound anything like on record). But I watched another live vid early 2024 and I couldn't believe how tight he sounded. Like almost every note 100% like on record, just the long ones not held as long. Then I watched an interview with Steve OG and I was glad to hear that Marcus thought he wasn't a good vocalist up until early 2024. And he's now also giving vocal lessons, after mastering his craft himself. It's honestly astounding.
I got an opportunity to talk to Marcus over a video call a couple months ago, and he said he decided one day he was "tired of sucking" (his words) lol. His vocal regiment over the last year or so has been incredibly detailed and effective. One of the most dedicated vocalist in the scene rightfully belongs to the most groundbreaking metalcore act of our generation.
As well it should be. John Douglass is an underrated but great engineer/mixer. If you've listened to The Contortionist's latest Retrospective live album (which also sounds fantastic and you should check it out if you haven't), then it should sound a little familiar as he worked on it as well.
Thank you, CTV 🗣 YAPPING ALERT 🗣 this song means a wealth of the world to my girlfriend and I, its one of the first few songs I showed her, and one she fell in love with wholeheartedly, which helped improve the already growing bond between me and her, and introduced her into the world of metalcore. Now, almost a year after I met her, almost a year after I showed her this beautiful song, we eagerly waited, watched, and listened to this video together last night. the experience today, was just as cathartic now, as it was a year ago. This song brings the warm memories ive made with my partner, on top of being an already amazing song. Thank you CTV, and big THANK YOU to John Douglass for being an amazing live mix-master. This made the lead into 2025 that much sweeter. 🙏
One of the best songs of the decade, no hyperbole. Those vocals, That Riff™️, everything is near perfect. Seeing this in person was a treat, but I’m really thankful for this video existing since you could barely hear Keaton’s part at the venue I was at. Hoping False Meridian is next 🤞.
When I saw Invent Animate came to Minneapolis this summer the lead singer had a toothache and still gave what I would consider an impressive performance. I appreciate the professionalism.
I pray this line up never splits🙏🏻Amazing musicians & people. Along side with Trey! Saw these guys in San Antonio, Tx, these guys put on a hell of a show!
Ive seen Invent live 3 times in the last 2 years. I saw them headline at a tiny ass venue in nashville called The End. Caleb has always had crazy funny stage presence. First time i saw them they come out and he immediately yells into the mic "i dont see a barricade get the fuck up on this stage right now"
I was blown away on how good they sound live the 2nd time i saw them in july last year with northlane. My first time seeing them was with polaris in 2022 they did sound good but they improved so much when i saw them again last year. They deserve a headline tour.
