Ireland played their best. NZ were better in every aspect of he game. My view is NZ, SA and France are playing rugby version 2.0 - Ireland are still playing V1.0 - Ireland do their version well but they dont have the pace and skill level across the team.
Fair comments Keith. The only way to beat the AB's is to slow the ball down. If Ireland 🇮🇪 can't do that, then you have a different game. More than likely also a different outcome is what he should have stressed. As a Kiwi 🥝 🇳🇿 , all I want to see is a flowing game from both sides without the game dictated by the whistle. ironically, thats exactly what happened, ireland looked poor compared to their previous games, they were 10 percent behind the kiwis for most of the first half, then they ran out of gas at the end. great game though.
Consider the following for NZ:
1. In terms of backup 10 minutes into the game or 60 minutes into the game, there is good backup for all the positions. Against a solid team like Ireland where solid support and experience is required behind the pack, if change is needed after 10 minutes ( God forbid) would you prefer Roygard or Christie? My opinion is that the selectors have got it right.
2. Imagine 20 minutes to go, game is tight, all the subs are in BUT with the following surprises… Whitelock packs with Retallick and Scott Barrett replaces Frizell to maintain height in the line outs, Dalton replaces Sam Cane, and surprise surprise … all three playmakers on the field with Rieko replacing Leicester on the wing…. we will be solid yet creative in the field and a ton of experience ( more than Ireland) bringing us home.
Add to this the fact that the Irish first 15 have been playing all the games to date … will they be tired mentally, will they be frustrated that they have not put away the game, are they worried they are letting down their supporters, they did lose to Scotland in the last 10 or 15 minutes … will that happen again. NZ has been a favourite or the favourite before all World Cups prior to this World Cup, they too had several winning streaks longer than 17 yet they did not win all the World Cups … would all these things affect the Irish game in the last 20 minutes?

Why on earth Ireland were so confident is beyond me, they play the majority of their matches against SA and NZ at home in November, they last faced SA in SA in 7 years ago! Facing them at a neutral venue in Europe is also like a home game as their supporters travel less than 1400km (the distance from Johannesburg to Cape Town). There is absolutely nothing between SA, NZ, FRA, IRE and any of these teams should be nervous facing each other. Ireland was arrogant and believed they were superior which became their downfall. In the end it came down to squad depth and I think few will argue that SA has the most depth. They can put forward two teams that can beat any of the top 4 sides in the world and I am not sure you can say that of FRA, NZ or especially Ireland.
