The first time I ever heard of the movie "Chariots of Fire" was when news came down that it had beaten "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (poor George Lucas - he just can't win). I didn't see the movie until my personal "Best Pictures Binge" summer back in 1998. "Chariots" is worth seeing once unless you are a dyed-in-the-wool sports movie fan, then it is a must see that you will see over and over again. (The opening credits, however, I have seen over and over and over again!) It is one of the greatest films in that genre, but, for me, I agree with you. It would have been nice for the winner to be MORE than just a good film and (for me at least) "Raiders" fit that bill perfectly. It is exciting, another example (like "Star Wars") of the first in a new genre of films and film-making, with great music, an iconic hero, romance, and a deus-ex machina no one saw coming at the time, but was to be expected nonetheless given the subject matter. A crowd-pleaser all around. Congrats on the news this week. Hope you will include the occasional old classic now and then, but whatever you choose it will be well done, I am sure.

A while back I watched every best picture, and all the best director winners I could find. Not all of them were good, but there were some great movies I would have missed out on if I hadn't watched them. Do you plan on doing any reviews on best director winners (that weren't best picture winners)?
This was my favorite movie for many years. Despite winning best picture, I think it’s underrated by most people.
