  • Actor Nigel Havers, who played Lord Andrew Lindsay, uncovers the true story behind the Oscar-winning movie Chariots of Fire.
The film traced the story of Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell, who both won gold medals at the 1924 Olympics in Paris. Nigel follows in their footsteps as he travels to Cambridge, Edinburgh and Paris to meet their daughters and uncover rare archive material. Celebrity fans including Sir Trevor McDonald, Louis Walsh, David Baddiel, Olympic medallist Dame Kelly Holmes and ex-rugby star Martin Offiah explain what the film means to them, and there are contributions from actors Ben Cross, who played Harold Abrahams, and Nicholas Farrell, who played Aubrey Montague. Producer David Puttnam and director Hugh Hudson also reveal the lasting legacy of the story that won four Oscars at the 1982 Academy Awards.
Based on a true story, CHARIOTS OF FIRE was the winner of four Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, in addition to receiving nominations for three more.

Amazing documentary! I'm an American; however, it would have been marvelous to have been alive back then and have a chance to meet both Abrahams and Liddell.

I love this guy, his character was wonderful in the movie! He was so cute then, and later still so cute! :) I didn't know Liddle missed another run too, because of the sabbath.

Made a vivid and cherished moment come alive again - took my mom to see it with me.
Then we watched Oscars together as C of F won it's gold medal. We stood up and cheered
when the envelope was opened - together as one. I'll never, ever forget it.

400 meters in 47.6 seconds - in 1924? Bollocks. It must be a mistake.

It's not. And Liddell was not the only athlete to run under 48 seconds in those games. It was a world record. Liddell also won the 200 metres bronze, which isn't even hinted at in the movie.

He didn't run the 4 at a 100 meter sprint pace or his time would be 40.4 seconds lol. Otherwise good video/production
