Always cool to see how well known Irish songs of resistance and anti-imperialism were transformed into equally inspiring pieces at the time for Union soldiers in the US. (US) Unconquered we shall remain... in the army of the free" (Irish) "And a thousand pikes were flashing... by the Rising of the Moon." "Oh they're hanging men and women... for the wearing of the green"
Most is putting it strongly. Most songs used tunes from The British isles that had been around for centuries. But Irish immigrants definitely didn’t write most of the songs themselves. For one, they were a minority even in the Union Army. In the CSA they were even fewer.

Does anyone know why this tune celebrates Martindale, Butterfield and Morell, 3 Union officers whose service can best be described as adequate to mediocre? I did some digging and it appears all 3 were senior commanders of the V Corps of the Potomac army through 1862, so is it possible this was a song written by soldiers of the V Corps?
Socialists on their way to make some of the hardest covers of American patriotic songs (I don't agree with their politics but god damn can they make music):
Yeah, a surprising amount of US civil war songs come from Irish folk songs and 1798 rebel songs. And a lot of more recent Irish rebel songs come from US civil war songs.
I love the tune and the feel of this song, but I wish it was more socialist-oriented. I'd love to see someone rewrite it to fit that, it probably wouldn't be hard.
Honey, wake up, Monsieur Jack just uploaded
May the union along with unions stand strong

Babe, wake up, new Monsieur Jack video just dropped

A Revolution betrayed.

Oh, it is the biggest mixup that you have ever seen!
My father he was orange and my mother she was green!
Fucking. Huzzah. Union and Liberty Forever.
Considering the tune, would you think about doing The Wearing of the Green?

Is this the same tune as Overalls and Snuff?
I'm gonna try to rewrite this as an anarchist song.
@The Crazy Cat Gentleman I second that.
