The BPP was not a threat but was only deemed as a threat bc they did something that scared the US, which was unite oppressed groups together. • @DrQuak
      @DrQuak 3 роки тому +146

      To be as fair as possible to the NRA, they supported gun control laws prior to the rise of the Black Panthers, and in fact explicitly disavowed gun wielding white supremacists during the civil rights era. The also supported gun control laws in the 1930s that prevented mail order guns and restricting the sale of actual machine guns.

    • @tirthpatel1562
      @tirthpatel1562 3 роки тому +232

      @@DrQuak First of all, the step that they took in 1930s to stop the sale of MGs, SMGs and mail order guns was to sheild the production of handguns from regulation and not some nobel cause, although the move was marketed as if it was to keep it out the hands of 'gangs'. Also the NRA didn't have any form of proper lobbying structure at that time. Now, disavowing white supremacists doesn't hold much water if you mirror white supremacist talking points in order to increase sale to your overwhelmingly white consumer base (a tactic which is used by the people who hold the highest positions in the company till this day.) So no, they hadn't actually pushed for gun reform prior to the rise of the Black Panther Party and their innovative outlook towards the 2nd Amendment.

      It's not that they're too afraid to teach it - it's that they're not permitted to teach it by the US government. In the US, school syllabus is highly controlled and monitored by the government due to its dark history(and present). The more Americans that know the real truth about their own history the less patriots, which means less enrollment in the military. For such a warlike and militarised nation, this cannot do. It's the same with all imperialist countries like Britain and France. Education in these countries is highly selective, controlled and streamlined.

    All power to the people. My dad, uncles, and aunts used to go and get free breakfast at the People's Free Food Program which was ran by the Black Panthers when they first moved to the west side of Chicago from Alabama in the early 70s. They also participated in what was called "survival programs" where the black panthers would provide transportation to my uncles and drive them to work. My dad and family were dirt poor when they first moved up here. The programs were a life line and helped them get on their feet. If it wasn't for the party my dad would've starved.

    The BPP did not see Canada as a "socialist" society... they were anti-capitalist Maoists. Whether Maoism should be our ideal is a different conversation, but this clearly whitewashes Hampton's and the Black Panthers' radicalism.

      Due to McCarthyism, a lot of Americans think anything left of Mussolini is socialism. Having basic social programs that literally every other rich nation has is socialism to them. It's sad because the indoctrination is so deep that even many poor Americans will reject the idea of introducing more social benefits because that's communism/socialism. Many don't even know what those words mean, they just know it's bad and 'unamerican'.
