I never film or share in 4k, nobody knows the difference. 1080p is fine unless you expect it to be seen on a 65" screen or pixel-peeped for some reason.

The spare battery compartment can be opened by carefully inserting a thin knife blade under the compartment tab. It doesn't have to be replaced. The arrow on the tab indicated which direction the spare battery must face to close the cover.

That “extra battery area” is a thing that tells you to put there which is a battery and it’s to thin to put one there to so I’m sure it’s there for a battery notification or to add more bulk to the back of it or weight counterbalance

@@sabitislamshanto6269 You better have good lighting because if you plan to film indoors that footage will be grainy. You also need a large SD Card. I use a 128 GB Sandisk Class 10, it will be decent for 5 hours of recorded footage on the highest quality XAVC. Anything less than a Class 10 SD Card won't allow you to record on the highest quality. You'll be stuck with AVCHD since the camera will lock out the higher option. Buy an SD card with the highest capacity you can afford. 32 GB will be eaten up immediately even if it's class 10.
To transfer the footage from camera to PC, you can either do it via the USB cable attached to the camera or copy the SD card directly so you need a micro SD Card reader. I recommend the SD card method which is faster than the USB 2.0. Just get an SD card reader that supports Usb 3.0. Your PC should also have a USB 3 port. Otherwise, you're stuck with the USB cable.
When you attach the camera to the PC, a link will be shown to you from the camera's display. [The camera must be turned on when you plug it to the PC] You can go to that link and download the software that can help you transfer files but that's up to you. The software is not required to copy footage. You can copy the files as if it were a flashdrive.
The lens of the camera is fixed so no swapping lenses here. I wouldn't use the zoom function if possible. The zoom quality sucks. Just film the subject as close as possible.
When it comes to battery life. The battery is decent but bring a portable power source like a power bank or if you are filming indoors and you're just in one place just keep the camera plugged if you will be recording for a long time. I even use this camera to film time lapse video for 5 hours straight.
The camera can get hot but it's not a big deal. Audio quality might not be good. Get a decent recording microphone like what you would see youtubers use and record the audio separately. You can't attach microphones to the camera.
This camera is really on a budget, taking still photos is decent for family photos but not something I would post to stock photo sites. It can suffer from pixelation issues. This camera is really meant for videos. You can probably get better photo quality from a smartphone.
Overall, this camera is good for a youtube video. It can record up to 1080p, don't use the 1080i option, you'll see stripes. I tried it once on a timelapse video. I sped up the footage and saw the stripes. Just use 1080p to be safe.
      Hope this helps.

    1. you can charge whilst recording if you use the wall charger plug end

    viewscreen
    3. the monitor flips around for selfie recording, be careful as it only flips 180 one way

It was my hope that the extra compartment was where you could put a 2nd battery for it to jump power to once the first one died if one wanted to do a continuous recording I had an event I filmed that I thought was going to last 2 hrs. IT ended up more like 2 and 1/2. The battery died before the last half hour. Would be great to have a 2nd battery that you do not have to change when you cannot be at the camera when you are leaving it on a tripod to record.
In addition I do not know why they made this so hard to get into and it makes one fear they are going to break something trying to get it out. Also it is not even mentioned in the manual. Why put it there if it is not covered in the manual?

    • @04mach1speed

cluvsonj that would be really nice if Sony did that. Where they both operate continuously. 150min recording time is fantastic for sure. It’s funny how many people I run into that ask me why I use cameras and camcorders when phones these days have them, I simply tell them that smart phones can’t do half the things that these devices made for only videos and photos can do, like powerful optical zoom and manual iso, and custom exposure time, along with manual focus. And smartphones will never have a 12-15x optical zoom

Mason Witte sylvanic cooperation seems to be pretty significant. Unfortunately I didn’t get to play with both outside in the dark, but what I did was go into Best Buy and cup my hand over both lenses to the point where it showed up pretty dark on the screen. And the Sony was the only one that adjusted the ISO at a level that I could see pretty good detail on the inside of my hand. Plus the Sony has something called “Low Lux mode” which once its activated it makes the dark look even brighter than before. That low Lux mode does turn the image slightly grainy. But you really don’t even need the mode on to begin with.

Thanks for the review... looking for a entry cam for UA-cam videos... by the Way... I is interlaced and P is for progressive. With out getting really technical the screen redraws every 30 times a second or so... Interlaced does odd, then even frames (think of lines left to right on the screen), this is how the old broadcast standard was always... P is progressive scan, it does full frames 30 times a second. PC monitors are all Progressive scan. Just a basic of the tech, it goes much deeper than that but, it's just the basics..

I'm with you Ardy. I choose 60p (highlighted) and then go back and it says 60i every time. This is in AVCHD. Although in XAVC S I can get 60p. Oh and I'm using a U3 SanDisk which isn't even necessary with HD. It is with 4K, but not HD. Wait a minute Ardy. I just changed HDMI Resolution from 1080p back to Auto and I don't see how there's any connection, but now AVCHD has 60p and to top it off, I kept going to the right on that 60i/60p screen and it said 60p isn't possible, but then when I went back, it finally said it was 60p. So I'm not going to mess with it. Although, I want to always shoot in the XAVC S codec at 60p. I'm actually not pleased at all with this camera. I know what 1080p is supposed to look like and my videos so far all look like VHS tape - blurry, fuzzy crap and the lens is clean. I'm going to give it one more chance because I changed from XAVCS 30p to 60p and I'm going to retry AVCHD at Highest Quality (it was at High) and 60p (it was at 60i). If the video is still crappy, it's going back. Oh, another thing, on a sunny day, white houses about an 8 iron away are a white blotch with windows not even distinguishable! Just a big pure white blob. That is set to Auto. I shouldn't have to set it to Outdoor, nor should I have to change the White Balance geeessshhhh Sony!
