Agreed. It took me 3 playthroughs to realize that within the group of gnomes you can save at the forge that there was a gay couple. It took my gay friend I was playing with 2 and he just took note and let me discovers this for myself on the 3rd. Feels like too many writers write with one hand while stroking themselves to the morality or sexuality of the character they are making, instead of just making real believable characters.
I think it's annoying that every single companion in BG3 is written to be bisexual. Even if you don't engage in their romance options, all the male companions seem like twinks.

The worst part about this is that the character who "Pulled a barv" by misgendering that other character is not the kind of person who would give a damn. Her name is Isabella and she's a pre-existing character who embodies the concepts of being selfish and not caring about other people. Like, at most she'd give a quick apology and move on. Because she's as selfish as any character can be without crossing over into outright evil. Case in point: in the second game, she steals a sacred relic from one of the most powerful nations in the series and nearly gets an entire city wiped out because she doesn't return it until after there's a literal war being fought on the streets. And even then, she tries to cut and run with the relic rather than return it, and it's only through the influence of the player's relationship with her that she ends up returning it.

She doesn't like the game and straight up told me to not waste my money on it. Don't get it unless it's free. Her yt name is Lady Selch. She put a video out basically dissing it.
These woke weirdos do it on purpose. By choosing Isabella they're taking the character least likely to apologize for the sin of "misgendering" to send the message that if Isabella respects pronouns _everyone_ should respect pronouns. Weirdo, mentally deranged ideologues were allowed to drag this game through their insanity.
Ok but Nux the hilarious context that you don't know is that Dragon age series have always had queer characters in their games. So there is literally no reason why they had to do all of this cringe way of establishing queer characters.
Yeah, dragonage has been pretty gay from the first game. But modern writing sucks in part due to wokeness, where they HAVE to be preachy and self righteous instead of things just being part of the world.
after seeing this game i went back to find a video of the Dorian loyalty mission you had in during dragon age inquisition and i realized how well that was written and voice acted.

Witcher 3 had TONS of woke-ish narrative in it's game. but you never really notice it, because the writing is just so damn good. like i've always said, using politics to push the stories narrative is good. but using the stories narrative to push politics is bad.
Instead of “woke-ish” narrative, I’d call it progressive. Artists in general tend to be more liberal and progressive, and as a result, their art will reflect that. The difference is that when someone is GOOD at what they do, you don’t notice it. Their worldview is skillfully woven into the fabric of the story. The biggest crime imo isn’t necessarily the woke stuff, it’s hiring insanely terrible writers.
It's not the issue for 90% of gamers. the far left is making it seem that way. look at the difference between the game vs the TV show as a comparison. a lot of it has to do with the writing

This is what I mean when I use the words ''woke bullshit'' it's not about being racist. Sexist or whatever have you. It's about the stupid cringey god awful implementation of it. Like in this case. I don't want to be mixing elements of a political or racial drama in my damn high fantasy media. You know where that kind of stuff belongs? In a freaking political or racial drama story. Why do I have to listen to unrelated identity politics in my fantasy or sci fi media? I shouldn't. THAT is what I call ''woke bullshit''. It's not about every time I see a diverse character or a character with a ''non typical'' identity. It's when the story randomly starts focusing all about their identity for no good reason is when I call it ''woke bullshit''. Imagine There's a SCI FI rts game where one of the main characters is black. And then there's a game that's the exact same in every way EXCEPT the black character keeps talking about the fact that they're black. and keeps reminding you almost every conversation. And the fact of them being black comes into play as a plot point and for some reason takes the main focus of the story for a bit. The difference is EXTREMELY obvious
And anyone who doesn't see it are so far up their own racist butts they can't see much of anything anymore. Or they're just not paying attention to these things the way one should

What’s really dumb about the whole thing is they have already had two trans characters that were handled pretty well (Krem and Maevaris). They even talked about how the Qun view gender and their words for gnc people with Krem’s backstory. Taash’s writers didn’t even bother attempting to do any world building to make it feel genuine to the world of Thedas. They just copy/pasted their intro to gender studies bullet points into the script and called it a day. I swear these writers want more representation, but they don’t even fucking try to put in any actual effort to make it work. Even the podcast, a medium that naturally requires more tell than show, handled their non-binary character Drayden with more grace. It’s embarrassing.
Honestly they could’ve done the woke inserts with nuance and no one would’ve bat an eye. DA was doing same sex relationships before it was even legal. For me I was out as soon as I saw the hollow gameplay that was lacking any tactical input like previous iterations. The character teaser also hinted major departure from the dark fantasy it’s known for(confirmed by reviews and spoilers). I think the woke argument while certainly addressing a clear in your face agenda is also detracting from the fact that major points of what make DA popular have been abandoned.
Exactly. People wouldn't care if it didn't feel like the game both actively preaching/talking down to you. There's 0 reason to have a 2 minute sermon about apologizing for misgendering a person. They could've just used they/them for the character without making some massive show about it, and most people wouldn't care. This weird desire to shove the representation in people's faces is so off putting... whatever happened to subtlety?
That's because it's mostly new people who don't know or care about the original games. They only care about how much messaging they can beat you over the head with.
I knew it was gonna be ass the second it was announced. Inquisition sucked, mass effected andromeda sucked anthem was the second worst flop in gaming probably, nothing can beat concord. As a trans person I feel misrepresented and don’t want to be represented beeing honest :/ This cringe stuff ruins so many things. From movies to videogames. Why make a deal about it… just don’t mention it. Modern writing. People who - for example change their gender aren’t usually „proud“ of that. You change cus you don’t want to be the person you have been before. Feeling unwell in your skin so to speak. Do better million dollar companies!
Also, they make trans people sound absolutely psychotic. They imply that trans people DEMAND this kind of groveling behavior if you ever accidentally misgender them. A genuine apology isn't enough, you have to *suffer* in some tangible way to earn forgiveness from a trans person? This kind of thing really does breed resentment towards trans people and it isn't fair to you guys 💀
It shouldn't be unreasonable to trust your editor with your footage because THAT'S THEIR JOB!!! If someone I hired broke my trust and confidence like that it would be immediate grounds for firing.
Baldurs Gate 3 handled this so much better jfc. They had non-binary characters, they had extensive inclusivity, and guess what they didn’t do?? Whatever the f*ck THAT WAS
One thing I don't think I've seen anyone mention about the clip at 19:18 is that it shows the writing isn't even consistent within the game, let alone the series - in the cookie scene, they're all "Hey, the Qun says to help people, so I'm gonna do that," only for this scene to have them say "hey, I don't follow the Qun, why would you assume that?" This is bad writing on so many different levels it's almost impressive
I hate being tokenized so that Bioware can jerk themselves off. Just make an NB character without making that the ENTIRE character. Good representation is just regular inclusion, theres no reason to spend any extra time hammering that home
Workout day doing pushups becomes the day you can say any insult you want! Maybe in the next game, the 'I'm sorry' performance will require a top hat, cane, and spotlight for the I'm sorry song to reeeally make sure people know that this isn't about themselves...
Let's say a person misgender a person and have to do a bar like 10 push up. What if the person who misgender them is unhealthy/fat so they can't do the 10 push ups. Is it not than fat phobic to make someone workout against their choice
In either case, it's just stupid. No matter what you did, or how much you offended someone, *you* decide that in all cases 10 pushups are just enough and everyone else has to shut up.
Why should someone have to apologize just because another person is a snowflake? My older sister gets offended when i call someone a retard, or i say "thats gay" or "thats retarded" im not apologizing for that, just cause you are a sensitive snowflake

They could have had a golden egg of a game. But one look at the director put in charge and everything makes sense. Another look at how salary policy is determined for a director of a game at EA in general, you see it’s tied partially to the metacritic score of the game. Giving incentive to curate reviews to only be positive. 🤷♂️
Also you have the option to have surgery scars, which is kinda weird in a world with magic The last game inquisition also had a lot of gay things and got criticized, but in that game it is way less shoved into your face. Also has a trans character, but that is also not shoved to the point some if not most do not even know that the character is trans, or that the gay characters are gay

Not gonna lie though, Dragon Age and Mass Effect lore go hard though Playing the game currently, and I feel mixed. The custom difficulty has allowed me to craft a gameplay experience that’s fun for me, and there are moments where the writing is actually very good, but the DEI stuff is so hamfisted in that it really takes you out. Having characters that are lgbtq are fine, but there are better ways to handle it. I have hope for Mass Effect from their developer’s response to DA, I just hope BioWare survives long enough to make it.
@ the combat has been really fun, combining the action wheel system from Mass Effect with an Arkham style melee system. The ranged style is a little wonky, but playable as an intermix with the melee. Crafting is very low level, feeling more like one of the newer Assassins Creed games. Leveling feels more Assassins Creed as well. Storywise, I can at least see the appeal for some characters, and already have a few favorites picked out, and the stuff that attaches to the previous works is well done, leading to a great finale. The Andromeda comparison is pretty spot on for the DEI but it feels even more hamfisted than that. And it’s not like BioWare is just introducing lgbtq characters and stories. We had gay relationships from Mass Effect 1, and intended gay characters from as early as KOTOR. They just put it in simplified sandbox, and you could be empathetic, an asshole, or a couple different shades of curious or indifferent towards their characters about it. The characters also only devoted a very small portion of their character arc about their sexuality, normally done at the very start of the arc in a personal one on one. Very normal to have that conversation brought up at that time. This feels like the topic of different sexualities and genders is thrown up to you around every turn. If you want there to be a trans role play option, you throw it in the character creator. It shouldn’t be a dialogue sequence option tree as I reflect upon my backstory over an hour into the game. Just as an example.
Wtf you talking about. All the combat difficulty setting does is make enemies spongier. Nothing els. Do you want to spend 5 minutes on a boss or 30 minutes with the exact same attack pattern and the only “difficult” thing being if you can keep attention for that long.

@@micheal5973 there is a custom difficulty option that allows you to turn the sponge down to story or keeper and then adjust all the timing and assist mechanics off. MattyPlays did nothing wrong, the fault is on the editor for passing clips on to others. You need to give editors footage early so they actually have time to edit it so naturally footage would be available to leak ahead of the review day.
They never call it gay. Just love. To avoid breaking immersion. And it makes sense that it's not a big social issue in a high fantasy setting. I don't care what you did with the bear. The "writers" probably just copy and pasted this from their fanfiction that they were going to submit to their gender studies class.
That was one of my thoughts, the writing in this game feels like fanfiction. Completely disrespects and insults the fans who made the series popular and all the previous good writer for the games.
Why does this comment feel so accurate without any proof at all?
Isabela didn't mean her barve, she only did five instead of ten push-ups or the developers can not count. I honestly believe it is the developer's inability.
Counting to 10 would require 2 hands, and the devs only had 1 hand free during that scene.

Fun fact. The reason the primary continent in Dragon Age games is called Thedas is because Bioware neglected to come up with an actual name before the working name stuck. Thedas is short for THE Dragon Age Setting.

Yeah. It is just so fucking sad. Let alone how you are forced to be nice.
One of my sassy friends is absolutely pissed. She is one of the biggest Dragon Age fans.
The whole reason theyre upset with that clip being released early is because they knew it would affect sales. 47:19
Ok but Nux the hilarious context that you don't know is that Dragon age series have always had queer characters in their games. So there is literally no reason why they had to do all of this cringe way of establishing queer characters.
Yeah, dragonage has been pretty gay from the first game. But modern writing sucks in part due to wokeness, where they HAVE to be preachy and self righteous instead of things just being part of the world.

that is well put!

I hate most of modern AA/AAA gaming so damn much between this nonsense and all the microtransactions...
My favourite part was when she said "It's barving time" and then proceeded to barve all over the place.

One thing I don't think I've seen anyone mention about the clip at 19:18 is that it shows the writing isn't even consistent within the game, let alone the series - in the cookie scene, they're all "Hey, the Qun says to help people, so I'm gonna do that," only for this scene to have them say "hey, I don't follow the Qun, why would you assume that?"
This is bad writing on so many different levels it's almost impressive
I hate being tokenized so that Bioware can jerk themselves off. Just make an NB character without making that the ENTIRE character. Good representation is just regular inclusion, theres no reason to spend any extra time hammering that home
Or you could just accept your biology and just dress and act however you want without a special made up title
@@Perma10Sounds like they're already doing that. Also I think it would be very difficult to find a title that is not made up.

Not gonna lie though, Dragon Age and Mass Effect lore go hard though
Playing the game currently, and I feel mixed.
So you're saying it went the Andromeda route of making really good gameplay and crafting mechanics but the story is a mix bag?

It allows you to craft a gameplay that fits you. It exists. The sponge on harder difficulties are ridiculous, so I just turned the health all the way down and minimized the timing windows and turned off the assist mechanics. Made my game way more fun.

MattyPlays did nothing wrong, the fault is on the editor for passing clips on to others.
