@@slickl9608 It's boring. You can only ever use one mon and still have 5 high levels in the back, despite never having used them. It takes away their individual developement. One of the most fun things in past games for me was leveling a freshly caught pokemon, getting comfortable with it and experiencing it's growth. Not anymore, use another one for a while and the rest have grown 4 lvls outta nowhere. It's convenient if you don't care but whyy is it forced?

I 100% agree. It gives you a point to use Pokémon amie and it just makes sense. You have to be connected and involved with your Pokémon to evolve it. Ash Greninja was a special case and isn’t actually mega evolution. It’s called the bond phenomenon. And even when ash Greninja was put in sun and moon, you didn’t actually need friendship with it to use the ability. I think beyond Pokémon amie that other ways of boosting friendship or a bond would have been good too. How many battles you’ve won with the Pokémon should matter before they can mega evolve. How long have they been in the party etc. It would have made it so much better.

One thing I liked about the story was the fact that team flare members felt like they trully belonged to a fascist organization. They were losers who were told by someone they were special (and probably hated mankind) and worship the guy who gave them purpose. When team flare disappears, you can find a guy trying to still make it alive. Ngl, this(and some of their funny dialogues) are why team flare is the best pokemon team. Plus, Lysandre.

Exactly! As someone who has always been interested in other paths that aren't just becoming Champion, I think the friend characters had a lot of potential. Making Tierno a Contest Champion and Trevor a Pokémon researcher would have been amazing-if you have to introduce a battle, maybe have Tierno say that he wants to show you how beautiful his Pokémon moves or have Trevor say that he wants to study how certain Pokémon moves work. It'd feel out of character if their Pokémon were at the same level as yours; maybe crafting teams for them with Pokémon that don't show up often and have moves that aren't common would make things less boring?

I think your main problems with X and Y are that they're unfinished. Something about them feel like Game Freak had to scramble to make everything work, most likely due to the P.S.S. system and all that stat balancing. •  4 роки тому +47

I love XY, but they could definitively have been quite better. I'd have loved to have some things, but I think the best way to pull it is with a list:
-Exp. Share could have been "broken" at first by only giving experience to the last member of the party and then the professor or someone "fixes" it in the postgame or before the E4.
-Serena/Calem becomes your serious rival and don't "ask" you for battles, they simply challenge you unwarned like Silver and Blue did. The other three are still your "friends" and challenge you to some battles here and there, but they also have other functioons: Tierno checks your Super Training skills and gives you new rewards or levels, and in postgame he becomes a move tutor; Shauna checks your Amie care and gives you more accesories and higher level minigames, and in postgame she increases your Pokemon's happiness and affection; and Trevor gives you Pokedex reviews. He offers you rare TMs or items by completing a certain amount of pages, and in postgame he talks you about swarms or increases chances of finding hidden ability Pokemon in the wild.
-The Kanto starter is a postgame exclusive after fighting the professor; this way, they do an actual nostalgic easter egg and your new starter feels like a reward and not a free boost. Mega Charizard X gets replaced with Mega Flygon.
-You get to use Mega Lucario, but only once; it then can be rematched in the postgame in order to obtain its Mega Stone.
-More trainers get access to Mega Evolution like Ace Trainers, Veterans, every Elite 4 member, and Gym Leaders on their rematches; Lysandre on his final battle uses a machine that forces his entire team to Mega Evolve.
-Southern Kalos features an actual Safari Zone.
-Unova Musketeers become Kalos' trio (it makes more sense; besides, they already have the genies)
    OPTIONAL, but very appreciated:
-The Z update gives you access to a new mini region in Southern Kalos where you can catch more Pokemon (those which are exclusive to Mirage Islands in ORAS), contests, some secret bases, and compatibility with ORAS Mega Stones. Tierno becomes your Secret Base rival, Shauna your contest rival, and Trevor helps you find new Mega Stones.
-There's a new episode like Looker's where you have to stop Team Flare from obtaining the second Zygarde and fusing it with the other one.
-There's a new Battle Factory clone, Amie minigame, and Super Training set of levels if you want.
I feel those changes would make XY pretty amazing games. There would still be some flaws like the pacing after the 3rd gym and how AZ was used, but the games overall would feel way more complete and interesting.

Especially sinnoh, every single route and place in sinnoh feels they are from the same region, meanwhile being really memorable. Even to the music they all sound very diferent while having the same feel and instruments in all. The places all seem you know kidna cold, european region. Even Sunyshore which is like on the ocean and its the warmest city in the game feels like it wouldnt be something as tropical as alola. Sinnoh is a mountainous, cold, and very old region, and every place feels like that even when having unique things that make them stand out. Snowpoint and hearthome give off the same vibe while still being unique, one being a solitary, snowy place in the edge of the world, while the other a heartwarming city that is the center and heart of sinnoh, but they both still feel sinnoh. Plus the music, omg the music, you can tell which song is which and from what place it is from, but you can still hear a piano medley of sinnoh songs and they blend so well together that they feel like just one long song

X and Y are not easy BECAUSE of the Exp Share, that's such a surface level analysis it's unbelievable. The game is easy because the levels of enemy trainers are too low and the elite 4 don't even have full teams of 6. Having the exp share makes it so much more satisfying to plan out a team and get access to some cool moves because your levels will be higher, instead of not being able to access the full potential of some of your pokemon before the champion battle because it doesn't have 4 half decent moves.
When I got back into pokemon in my late teens (I hadn't played since red about 15 years before) I played Soul Silver first, arguably the best game in the franchise and loved it, then I played Y and I really enjoyed it until I got to the E4 when I was disapointed by the lack of full teams. My next game was black and I absolutley hated it.

I think you’re right in some ways. Looking back on the game, I had a hard time because it was my first Pokémon game. But almost every gym leader and important fight was missing moves on their Pokémon or a full team. So I don’t think the exp share was completely balanced but it did fit the game mostly. It’s just that the gym battles and such were far too easy.

There is the character customization, the music is great and there is lots of colour. The Pokemon although few are also great designwise. Also the region is including later games the most populous region of all, there is a sense of life to it. The plot or mechanics may not be the best, but it is has beauty all around. I played it as a little kid so i never got the difficulty problem. However the immersion and adventure in this beautiful world is something i'll always remember.

After getting all nostalgic i started replaying every Pokemon Game from Gen 1 to Gen 6 and what I found is that all of them are rather easy. What people tend to negelect is that we are adults now and we therefore don't play like children anymore. When i frist started playing pokemon I palyed like a complete noob, which was a given since I was like 7 or 8 years old. For example, I used hydro pump and hyper beam on Garados and pretty much used hyper beam on every single pokemon since I had no idea about the special and attack split (I generally had no idead what the Stats ment xD).
I didn't start bothering to learn the game mechanics before Gen 4, that's when I started playing Pokemon efficently, like caring about stats as well as the special and physical split of moves and I started using satus moves like sword dance, which suddenly made everything become very easy. As and adult you understand very well which Pokemon teams are best for which specific game and know very well which pokemon should be used with which ability and with which move and which hold item. Even as a young teenager i still didn't understand the correlation between abilities, moves and items. I for example used leftovers on Swellow instead of giving him a toxic or flame orb to activate his guts ability since i thought it didn't matter (and overestimating his defensive stats at the same time).
You think i ever thought of using facade on it? No, Double Edge was cooler. Even when replaying Gen 2 a couple of month ago I found it way too easy since I knew how to handle it. Whitney with Miltank a Problem? No, just trade for the in-game machomp and catch yourself a Geodude and you are in for a rather easy win. Even without and exp share i found myself currently overleveld (without grinding) in Gen 1 since I never switched party memebers and only caught Pokemon I was going to use throughout the game (only certain Pokemon like mankey were used for certain gyms but dropped after I didn't need them anymore). This led to my Pokemon being overleveld at a certain point due to not having a full party before the 6th Gym.
To conlude: If you want a Game for children to be difficult you will have to play like a child. That's exactly why people started doing Nuzlocke Challenges, to make a easy game more difficult. As I long ago stopped caring about the main story (let's be honest, it's very repetitiv) I only really cared about the gameplay and game mechanics as well as the quests. If we consider filling the Pokedex for the shiny charm, beating gyms and The Elite 4 as well as the post game contend I think X and Y did fairly well. What sets it apart from the preceeding generations were it's 3D graphics, which I found astounding at that time. My dream of being able to play a 3D Pokemon game with great animations finally came true which is the main reason i love X and Y. I also liked the exp. share which helped me fill the Dex. I overall liked X and Y as much as the previous generations but it's true that it got overshadowed by Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby (my up to date most favourite Pokemon games). But it overall was very great, I still love playing them over and over again. Sorry for the long post.

Man, your comment is so true! Very accurate!
Add to you perfect scanning of the question the fact that what helps to make Pokémon games easy is the system battle in shift mode!
When you are allowed change Pokémon every time you defeat the one of opponent, the game turns a piece of cake!
Well, the only thing I disagree with you is that I still believe that XY is a better game than ORAS!

    • @pandaman1331
      @pandaman1331 4 роки тому +3

@@pedromonteiro2248 I have to admit that I prefer ORAS over XY out of nostalgia because Ruby was the first ever Pokemon game I played on a console. You are certainly spot on with the shifting system, it makes the game way too easy. That's presicely why I mostly play Pokemon hacks or do challenges, they are to some degree challenging. Try a monotype challenge or a nuzlocke challenge. Escpacially nuzlockes can fuck you up mentally, I stopped mine halfway after all of my favorite Pokes died :(
Another classic way of making it harder is to not switch Pokemon, always battle with your current one until it faints. Still to easy? Well how about not using any medicine items in battle? I even stopped using full Pokemon teams, I usally have 3 main fighers and the rest are just HM Slaves. Still to easy? How about a randomizer nuzlocke? There are many ways to make Pokemon more challenging but if you play it the regular way than it won't matter which Gen you play, as an adult they will all be too easy

the reason why I like Pokemon X&Y so much is not because of the gameplay, which was, like you said, pretty weak in comparison to previous generations, but because it's a really memorable and beautiful(?) game. The Kalos region might be my favourite Pokemon region to date, as it has a lot of beautiful and vast places to explore. Even after beating the Champ I enjoyed skating through the streets and alleys of Lumiose City, where I kept finding a lot of stuff I had previously missed. While, yes, Kalos doesn't make much sense geografically, it had really cool looking places in it and great soundtrack to make them really come to live. And like you said, the newly introduced Pokemon where few in number, but we're great design-wise and made sense for the region in a way. I don't know how to explain that, other than the Pokemon available in X&Y made sense for a region that's based on France and for the story that it introduced. I also really enjoyed the character costumization and the fact that the boutiques actually switched up their sortiment based on the day of the week, which made me revisit them often, so I could buy all their clothes. Mega-Evolutions and the fairy typing we're 2 of the best things X&Y introduced in my opinion. The fairy type became my favourite type, because of it's type advantages and weaknesses in battle and because there are a lot of really cool fairy type Pokemon, like Xerneas, which is my favourite legendary or Mimikyu, which is from Sun&Moon but still cool. The mega evolutions worked well for the gameplay, even though they gave you 2 great megas for free and early in the game. But they made battling more interesting for me and gave a new boost to Pokemon that needed one (and some that didn't). I think the reason why the mega evolution is barely ever talked about, is because it was a one-time event for the franchise. Sun&Moon was quick to abandon them and instead introduced something that was in no way adequate to the mega evolution. (On another note I really disliked Z-Moves bc they we're pretty useless and I never used them. Except for Mimikyus special move, just because it's called never-ending nightmare).
In short X&Y did some things pretty well. It had a memorable region that felt whole in a way without making much sense. And the new mechanics it introduced added to the enjoyment of the game. But yes, X&Y suffer some losses, simply because they we're the easiest games so far.

I have a strong opinion on the EXP Share but I’ve honestly not seen this view around the web much even though to me it feels so obvious. I DO strongly agree that XY were too easy, and the lack of challenge is a real problem. But I don’t think that’s the fault of the EXP Share. When I played through XY, I came to appreciate dragging around random Pokémon in my empty slots to even them up and evolve them without even using them directly, to the point where I ended up finishing the game with only four team members because I wanted to keep levelling up everything unevolved in my PC box. Levelling up all of my actual team members helped too, so the EXP Share was something I really appreciated. The problem was that it was optional, and the game’s level balance was built around not using the EXP Share, which was true for Sun/Moon too. This is why I’ve thought for a while that the EXP Share should NOT be optional, and instead, the game’s balance should be built around having it enabled. When Sword/Shield were revealed to be making the EXP Share mandatory, everyone kicked off, but I was chuffed. Apparently that game is still ridiculously easy, surprise surprise, but I hope we can get to a point where people don’t criticise the EXP Share itself, but instead criticise the games for not fully committing to their great concept.
But anyway, cheers for giving XY a bit of praise, I really appreciate them for having easily the most varied Regional Dex for great team building options. XY hasn’t held up to the test of time that well, but it felt great at the time and I’d rather appreciate that.

"When I played through XY, I came to appreciate dragging around random Pokémon in my empty slots to even them up and evolve them without even using them directly."
Yeah no. I don't see why a player should be rewarded by just dragging random Pokémon around without even using them. Why shouldn't you be challenged for evolving new mons. Being forced to actually use new mons in a battle makes it more enjoyable because you actually notice the mons strength , weaknesses, type advantage, move poll, etc. Dragging it around, evolving it without using it, and saying it was fun is the same to me as saying that getting shinies in Pokémon Lets Go is fun, its fun because its easy.
You say the problem isn't the exp share, but it is, it absolutely is. You haven't explained why the new exp share should be used instead of the old system except that its convenient. There is no incentive of using other mons than your starter anymore, there is no point in learning to use new, weaker mons if your stronger mons can carry it to high level. If anything you demonstrated why the new EXP share made the games easier, despite the fact that you "enjoyed it". Ok, lets say a game is built around having it, you still haven't solved the problem of using weaker mons in an actual battle. If your stronger mons are defeated, your team will be able to beat the threat, even when you barely use them. The old system forced you to switch around because otherwise your other mons would be too weak. If one mon has the exp share, you would have had to use it in battle anyway to get double exp, and you start from an unreliable weak mon to a dependable strong mon, an experience you can't really have now because the game give an incentive for that. You CAN do it, but forcing yourself to do it vs having a system around it is not the same, just like forcing yourself to less than 6 mons because the game is too easy isn't the same as having an actual difficult game where you can use all 6 mons.
You lack the new EXP share because of its "quality of life improvement" despite the fact that you don't even bond with new mons anymore, because there is no incentive to do it. I don't really care if you say that's not true. Because I don't see why a player should be able to evolve other mons "conveniently" aka easily. You can say its enjoyable, but that doesn't mean anything. Having evolved Pokémon in advance in the Battle Factory means I get to use strong mons without the hassle of growing them and catching them, but then you'd say "but they aren't yours" or "Pokémon is about catching and growing your own Pokémon" and then I'd say the new exp share doesn't give you any incentive to bond with your mon, because you don't even use them directly as you said. There would be no difference if they were in your PC.

I might be alone in saying this but I like EXP all. I don't want to go into a battle, realise that my lead pokemon isn't a good type matchup for the random encounter, and waste a turn switching in a different pokemon. I also don't enjoy grinding. I'm playing pokemon, not Undertale genocide.
Maybe it's just me but not having EXP all feels like I'm wasting more time in battles.

Hi. I’d like to look at this from a different perspective. I found Pokémon x while browsing for my bday present and decided I wanted to try it out. I feel it was a great introduction to the series and I feel they thought about this while creating it. It seemed to me like x and y brought a lot of new players into Pokémon and i honestly think they knew this would happen so they knew they would have to help these new players out. I think the kanto starters can be explained because most people know them three. Even if they don’t play Pokémon. So, having familiar faces would make it obvious what game it was. Anyways just my opinion lmao

Mega Evolution always felt like it had the potential to be the next big mechanic in Pokemon battles like weather, abilities, the physical/special split, and hidden abilities in generations prior. But instead of sticking with it and improving this concept that had a ton of potential, they threw it away and replaced it with two far less interesting "nuke button" mechanics in Z-Moves and Dynamax. Out of all of them, Mega Evos were the only ones I ever felt interested in or excited about, and removing them entirely in sword and shield feels like the biggest waste of potential in the series so far.

While the execution was hot shite, I think this is still my favorite Pokemon League. You come out of Victory Road, eager to arrive already, when you come across this big fuck-off fortress-cathedral looking-thing. The outside architecture is fuckin' magnificent- especially at night. I still have a photo saved to my 3DS of the place framed against the beautiful starry sky. You enter the main chamber and, while rather boring as a hub room, imposes an amazing ambiance. You stand in an elegant chamber- a regal dark blue carpet, a theme I find hard to describe (not quite imposing or oppressive), and wondrous subdued lighting peering in through stained glass windows. Upon entering an Elite Four's chamber, you rise up onto a fuckin' _gorgeous_ stained glass floor, in a thematically designed chamber... Only to suddenly be greeted by a (then) magnificently animated effect- whether it be giant plumes of flame erupting out of braziers, to spouts of water flooding the room to create a constant waterfall, to _giant swords dropping in from the sky_ . As you clear each of these rooms, you are now allowed access to the Radiant Chamber which, to this day, is still one of my single most favorite spaces in the series (comparable to Cynthia's Platinum room). An elaborate golden throne sits empty in a chamber so awesome and splendorous that it'd look more at home in the Vatican or some high-fantasy heaven. You may even take your place on the throne and bask in the majesty, but no, you have not yet earned it. You step onto the lift, and rise into a room that seems more like an artpiece than an area to walk in. The entire floor is a giant work of stained glass, arranged in rings and dotted with splotches of rainbow color. The walls of the room are a white and gold that belies the beauty of the room. And while she was underwhelming as a Champion, the intro to Diantha's theme perfectly punctuates the aesthetic of the entire League. I still get goosebumps when listening to the opening notes. Say what you want about the region, but the Pokemon League itself is nothing short of a masterpiece of thematic design. Or maybe I'm just biased because Gothic architecture and cathedralic aesthetics _are my jam_ .

I really liked XY, it had great pokemon allotment, where the beginner areas were not 100% trash. It was monotype viable in ways the first 5 generations were not. You could get up and running with your monotype from the get-go without massive amounts of compromising. My normal monotype had a litleo super early, pyroar isnt a super powerful pokemon, just good. Dark had absol and panchan early, good but not game breaking, and so on and so forth.
Plus, XY had the best overall batch of new pokemon, with Tyrantrum and Heliolisk being my favorite pokemon in general.
3D sprites are a bummer, especially with the animations. Nothing was more disappointing for me than finding Mankey in Ultra Moon and having it and Primeape's animations turned from angry monkey to generic bobble animation. Look what they did to my boy.

I actually prefer X and Y over gen 3, the original one at least. The fact you can fly over the whole region in the remakes is so amazing that alone made them better than X and Y to me. Other than that, I agree that the musics are extremely good, probably the best ones after those that got added into BW2 compared to BW. But god did I hate those "rivals", they got me annoyed to no point.

  • @n1hondude
    @n1hondude 3 роки тому

Coming from BW2 where there's a SHITTON of things to do during the game and post-game, XY felt surprisingly empty in comparison and yet I still played over 400 hours because I'm nuts. Still sucks that most of the content was way too repetitive.
    BW2:
    - PokeStudios
    - PWT
    - Battle Train
    - Join Avenue
    - Black City/White Forest
    - Dreamworld
    - Entralink
    - MEDALS!!! (That alone added a lot more replayability that the entirety of XY "post game" )
    XY:
    - Battle Maison
    - Battle restaurants
    - Friend "Safari"
    - Super Training
    - Medals** (online only with GTS, and that was a stupid decision)
They did add some interesting features in XY like the "nature objects" whereas we could obtain items after the battle even if used certain moves to "interact" with the background, but as usual that was scrapped in the next games.
If only they had give us "Z" or "XY2" so we can finally access the power plant and see where that train leads....
Unpopular opinion, they should have kept the "chibi" 3D aesthetic of XY and stop trying to be "realistic".

Having attempted Nuzlockes in Y version (got to Alakazam on Victory Road last time), I have really started to appreciate these games. Team Flare could have been stronger but Lysandre more than makes up for that with his Gyarados who is an absolute unit. Even with Yveltal and Mega Blastoise, I still had a lot of trouble with it. I kept the Exp. Share off and banned Lucarionite for balance. (Yes, Mega Blastoise is strong too and Yveltal is a legendary but I caught Yveltal by battling it and if I had caught it with a Master Ball I would have made it Avatar State [its death being an autolose]) I also balance patched Eviolite to Pokemon that could evolve anyway (in Eevee's case, Lv 30). I did notice the difficulty spike in Victory Road though. Next time, I'll try to get a Pokemon that can use Sweet Scent so I can train on R21.
The roster is very good, while not having many new pokemon it showcases many good pokemon as well as many that were underused in other games, for example in one of my games I ran Granbull and Lapras as my main two. Steelix also gets an honourable mention along with late game mons like Drapion and Tyranitar which I had never been able to use in a Nuzlocke due to the lack of availability of Pupitar. The main feature I didn't like was the Battle Chateau because I tried very hard but could not get decent Exp there. A lot of money for MooMooMilk though. I definitely would play again.

I played my first Pokémon game way back in the 90s (Blue) and Gen 2 (Gold) is still my favourite game. But I stopped after Gold because of the Gen 3 lack of backwards compatibility. Pokémon Y is the game that got me back into Pokémon, I bought a 3DS just to play it, as it looked like Pokémon was finally reaching its potential. I was a bit late to it, only got it in 2016 after a more than 15 year gap between Pokémon games. Unfortunately Sun and Moon didn't quite live up to X and Y, and although I am enjoying SwSh for the most part it too has gone backward in some respects. I don't understand the hate for Gen 6, it is fun and the map is diverse. The balance is refined and megas were OK, at least they weren't mandatory. I am trying to play SwSh without using Dynamax but it is difficult to do so. All in all I would say Y is my second favourite Pokémon game.

I love Gen 6 with all my heart!
It was Gen 6 who brought me back to Pokemon after Gen 5 terrible games!
Really, after playing BW I consider to quit with Pokémon! The unova Dex is a shame for GF! It is full of dumb rip offs of Kanto Pokémon (Like Audino that is a garbage copy of Chansey) and it’s Pokémon are suffer with an overdesing! The game itself is BORING! Too slow and take a lot of time to you caught something who is not worthless. The starter trio are the worst starter Pokémon ever (man, I hate Emboar and Samurott) and the competitive metagame is a shame: every strategy was reduced to weather war.
Otherwise, XY brought to us a Great Dex giving priority to quality over quantify and great new competitive metagame!
XY gave us the best Gimmick of all franchise: MEGA EVOLUTION! The concept of Pokémon evolve even beyond to get max of its battle potential was amazing. And the Megas designs are just badass!
Love the transition graphical to 3D. Pokémon models were great for its time! And all game looks so gorgeous!
Great new online features like wonder trade and GTS (properly done). And a big improvement on the shiny hunter mechanics!
And, although some people say it, I don’t think Gen 6 pandering Kanto as anyway! They just put Starter Kanto Pokémon cause they created Megas for them! And it is really nice you could get two started in the same quest!
Kalos dex was very well balanced and has a lot of great evolutions line!
And, Finally, Gen 6 has the best and most creative competitive scenario of all generations! Megas pushed the battle system so forward and the metagame was never so balanced and enjoyable to play!
All of it said, I can easily see that Gen 6 brought Pokémon Back to the top of World!

After this comment I already know you know nothing about competitive battling because Gen V meta game was the worst ever! Everything was reduced to weather war and was impossible to find a team that wasn’t based in weather condition. Boring af!
Gen VI metagame was revolutionary with the Megas and the introduction of fairy type. It was much more balanced and we saw a boom in competitive scenario with many new players!
Otherwise , Gen V games was a clear step down on the franchise being rejected by tho most Pokémon players and it has the “legacy” in being the most hated games of Pokémon and the WORST sellers games in the core series!
About the image in your link: Do you really play a game because the post game? Because it is the only arguments that Gen V fanboys have!

I think it's funny how you talked about Kalos being memorable when I find it easily one of the most forgettable pokemon regions. The region just kind of feels lifeless and empty to me. It just completely lacks character. Alola and Unova just have so much more personality and more interesting things to do. And to me the new pokemon are just pretty forgettable. I don't hate them, but many of them are just kind of..... fine. Alola and Unova have much much better rosters imo.
