@@laosasean8482 Lol! nice try, Wumao. You may wish to invest more than 4-5 seconds on your horrible gaslight sales pitch. It’s sad. Only one of those countries INCREASED their official strategic partnership status with the US this past year. Hint: it is not the Philippines. The arc and velocity of Vietnam’s partnerships w/the US is currently at an all time high . Who knows how high it will go ? …it’s just evolving & changing by the week. eg VinFast cars are now starting to stream into the US market. Forging this bond is the fact that that the Vietnamese people in general have MUCH more distrust with the PRC , than they do with Americans ; which says a LOT, considering they were once at war with both. The fact that there is a massive Vietnamese-American community in the US who are now very successful, and even now increasingly politically ambitious /voter base at the regional level…. Is swiftly aiding this new era of collaborative relations, built on goodwill.
Hello. I am Vietnamese . Thank you, our friend, the Federal Republic of Germany, for making this film. I read through many comments and unexpectedly there were many people who loved and understood Vietnam very much. Vietnam is a narrow and long country. Vietnamese people are very open and friendly. Vietnamese people love peace and put aside the painful past. great altruism. Remember that day. My grandfather came back alive after terrible battles with America. Cambodia and China. He lost his memory because of that horror. There were nights when he suddenly woke up and screamed, recalling the names of his fallen comrades with unfamiliar names. "There were days when he ran into the street and screamed, "Forward!" Stand up, comrades. Stand up to defend your country! Viva Vietnam ! Long live Ho Chi Minh! I can't imagine what he went through. My tears fell a lot. Thank ! The people who laid down their lives forever for their homeland, for the beautiful country of Vietnam today. So that we can live perfectly in Peace .
As an Australian who has just come back from traveling Vietnam, I can say it was absolutely stunning and the Vietnamese people have much to be proud with there immense and growth as a nation, very happy and proud for my Vietnamese brothers and sisters
I'm Australian. My wife and I used to live in Laos. We'd fly to Ha Noi for a long weekend away. Loved getting lost in the Old Quarter. My wife reckons Ha Noi has the best shopping on the planet.

As always an amazing documentary by DW 👍. Thank you DW for taking us on a beautiful train ride across Vietnam witnessing the beautiful landscape & scenery across the journey.
I hope that one day when high-speed trains are available in Vietnam, this train will still be here and for those who like to live slowly. I really like this train. It's strange, but this train is a witness to the changes in myself and my country. It's more than just a means of transportation!
I took the same train, although just a short distance, between Da Nang and Hue a few years ago. The coast line was beautiful from the train. However, the restroom on the train would certainly benefit from being cleaned more often. I also found it interesting that each train car had a separate conductor and that each train crossing and tunnel had a human guard, something no longer seen in the West.
As a Vietnamese living in Hochiminh city, to tell you the truth, I have never used the train to go to Hanoi. I have also heard and read some comments from foreign tourists about the toilets on the train. To tell you the truth, I am very sad and embarrassed. But 2-3 months ago, I read a Vietnamese article saying that Vietnam's railway service has changed a lot to attract customers due to a recent decline in sales. They have changed the toilet room design with more modern equipment. They have also renovated some of the train's rooms, even converting the train's rooms into rooms like 4-5 star high-end hotels or bars to attract high-end customers.
@@lexuanson1616 No need to be embarrassed. Vietnam is still a developing nation. I'm sure things will improve with time. I loved the two weeks I spent in Vietnam and I hope to go back soon.

So hope you guys will have a great time to enjoy this video but I also hope this comment will give you a useful and crucial information about Vietnam territory

It is amazing how Vietnam was able to at least maintain their railway network which the Philippines was not able to do despite being destroyed in a war against the US
Vietnam rely on Russia and now China help. PH is so mountainous and an island nation so it is different. I suppose if PH accept to in debt to China, it will have a railways system.

We as an Australian couple, discovered Vietnam in 2000 and we've been back every year minus the COVID years. Can't say all the development has always been an improvement but what has always remained the same has been the friendliness and good nature of the Vietnamese people many of whom still lead hard working lives. Our railway journey was a short one from Hue to DaNang but it was spectacular. Going back to DaNang in May for a resort holiday. First time we went to DaNang there was no coast road to Hoi An which meant of course no massive hotels on the coast.
Warmly welcome back you! with love from Hanoi❤
@@HungTranLe-kp8up Thanks for that. Not making it to Hanoi this time but we have enjoyed our times there. We love the boutique hotels in the Old Quarter but it sure has become crowded.
I hope Vietnam can modernise but maintain it's character and natural beauty.
Vietnam seems to be doing well, imagine how it would have been if the war hadn't happened. I love such DW documentaries of enlightenment on countries.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
They would be still stuck in time like korea.
I am pilipino luv watching vietnamese vlog.I luv this country as an asean. We luv the vlog about transforming junk into a multi million dollar car. There are many vietnamese living here in the Philippines .
Thanks DW for this nice documentary. Since I live abroad for mire than 10 years I recognize that our people in fact work very hard, we can stand through out the difficulties.
Vietnam. Beautiful country, lovely people.
funny language tho
Funny how? It was alphabetized by the French, the national language used to be squiggles like Chinese.@@streetsarecold

"1st world"? You still use the racist classification of countries the west created during the Cold war?
Love this country! 🇻🇳 Vietnam is on my bucket list. Love Pho soup! Hope to visit year 2024 or 2025 and i wish to ride the train from Hanoi to HCMC😊

Thank you

How amazing it is to see this video talking about my country. Thanks to DW for showcasing our culture, heritage, and local cuisine. Especially, the stunning views that I have never seen in my travels.
We are pleased you enjoyed the documentary, thank you for commenting!
Wife and I traveled the whole country, north to south by bus. Took 21 days and we loved it. We will go back for the train ride for sure. It was the most fun because of the people and their friendship. Food was good too! Cant wait to go back.
Every single provinces of 63 provinces in Vietnam has its own characteristics and charms for you guys to travel.
Being Vietnamese, I think this documentary is really awesome.
As a son of Vietnam residing in SAIGON, my dream is to fully explore my country, immersing myself in rich cultural experiences. I am so happy to live here despite of some negative factors such as traffic and poverty in some regions. Believe me, you hardly could find somewhere else with such delicious culinary, vibrant night-lifestyle and the friendliest behavior towards foreigners.
This DW channel is one of the best, another great work you guys are awesome! And Vietnam, hats off if you know how their country was destroyed thoroughly, a miracle indeed! An Asian tiger becoming, already a global manufacturing hub
Thanks for watching and for your positive feedback. ❤️
We have defeated Mongolia, France, fascist Japan, America, England, and China during the 4,000 years of building our country.
The Americans dropped 14.3 million tons of bombs on us, killing about 4 million people.
After that, they also supported the Khmer genocide in Cambodia and embargoed Vietnam for 25 years. We in 1990s were completely poor, backward, illiterate, the consequences after the war no one in the world could understand.
But with only 30 years of development to date, we are proud to have surpassed 2/3 countries in the world.
We are no longer poor, a resilient nation will forever endure.
Look at the beautiful people and beautiful country once was in a war for another country's interest ( same had happened to lots of other countries )

Vietnam is beautiful country
As a Vietnamese living overseas and seeing the Documentary about my country, I have an indescribable feeling when hearing familiar sounds, music, mother language, and life vibes, especially the voice of the announcement every time the train reaches a station. I would like to thank for the great effort of DW team to make this documentary and spread Vietnamese culture to friends all over the world. Highly appreciate and warmly welcome to Vietnam!
I'm from Canada and we adore Vietnamese people!
School friends and local families that own small restaurants have been the most kind and warm people i have ever met...I made it through Covid lockdown thanks to great pho and a sweet vietnamese woman😊
Thank you for sharing your culture!
Did this trip myself with my late father about a decade ago - it was his last overseas trip, and a good way to bond. The journey itself was fantastic to people-watch as well as appreciate the scenery passing us along the entire length from Hanoi to HCMC.
As a Australian born after the American war ! I have absolute gratitude to these people that suffered so much from Satanic Western Countries...... So Proud of Vietnamese People ❤️🫵🦘😊😇🥰😘
I am very grateful to all the veterans who contributed to the unification of Vietnam.
Would you be grateful to all the veterans who resisted Kinh Annamese commie colonizing Vietnam?
@@kimduong2332 Vietnamese are very nationalistic people. One side lost, one side won. It's better to move on and remember what was lost. The young kids don't have the same burdens of living through a divided nation where the North started all of this by executing their own Vietnamese.

I am amazed and humbled at how Vietnamese were able to throw out French and American colonizers.
We in Vietnam greatly appreciate that you take time to explore our history.
I was kind of rooting for the French honestly
Don't forget that they also threw off China's invasion in 1979. The vietnamese turned out to be simply better at this game in this region as the successful Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia showed.
Wait until you find out who built most of the railroads, air and sea ports still in use today.
That’s half true. The other half is communist propaganda. If Americans want to colonize, Japanese and South Koreans are poor slaves.
If you don’t see the truth, you are poisoned with tyrants propaganda.

Watching this made me remember my trip from Ha Noi to Saigon in 2000. It's not so convenient at that time with the tough seat but the view was breathtaking .
Amazing growth and modernization of Vietnam. In 1975, all we could see on tv are total devastation of this country due to decades of war. Vietnamese people are hard working and so nationalistic
As always an amazing documentary by DW 👍. Thank you DW for taking us on a beautiful train ride across Vietnam witnessing the beautiful landscape & scenery across the journey.
Thank you for watching!

Wow, nice info DW. I'm Indonesian and has visited both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh before pandemic.
I hope that one day when high-speed trains are available in Vietnam, this train will still be here and for those who like to live slowly. I really like this train. It's strange, but this train is a witness to the changes in myself and my country. It's more than just a means of transportation!
Deutsche Welle - Such an outstanding documentary, we need more of this please. Incredible footage and great stories, Thanks so much for the upload!
Thanks for watching and sharing your positive feedback!
Đồng ý với góp ý của bạn.

But VN support Russia.😅

I'm Vietnamese people. I really appreciate this documentary about our country. But I felt very upset because the video used the inaccurated map about Vietnam. It should be have Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Island (which are Paracel Islands and Spratley Island) on the map on the East Sea. In my respect, hopefully this is a just a mistake, not with any intension. So hope you guys will have a great time to enjoy this video but I also hope this comment will give you a useful and crucial information about Vietnam territory

I did this two years, spent the whole time whining about how slow the train was, when I was awake though some of the scenery was magnificant!
