  • Earwigs have a bad reputation. It's commonly believed that these animals purposefully crawl into human ears in an attempt to lay their eggs on a person's brain. This is ridiculous. While it is technically possible for an earwig to crawl into a person's ear, and it has been documented to have happened in the past, this is an exceptionally rare occurrence! And they definitely aren't interested in laying eggs in your brain, they would rather lay them in dirt! Earwig moms are excellent parents and care for their young to ensure they have a higher chance for survival. Their pincers look menacing but they aren't venomous. Earwigs are harmless to humans, though they can sometimes bite with an unpleasant pinch to the skin.

Ah yes, I recall a friend brushing one of these wee beauties off my cheek while young and for years we'd say he saved my life..clearly he was going for my "ear".👂🧠 Great video guys.☘

@@AnimalFactFiles Indeed haha, was wondering if I could make a request video wise, a small red seemingly seasonal bug we used to misleadingly call "Bloodsuckers" back in the day, I believe their correct title is "Clover Mites". Mite be an interesting addition to this great play list. Apologies if it's already been done.☘💚

When I was little I would always see these, and they’d scare me. I’ve forgotten they existed!! But always wondered if they really did go into your ears, haha. Thanks for this video! It was very interesting!!

I took a earwig and put it in a tiny plastic zip lock plastic bag that had fishing hooks and it stayed in my tackle box for 4 month and when i open my tackle box and remembered it the earwig was gone but there was a ghostly white spider in that plastic baggy that was sealed

You don't lay eggs but you sure do crawl inside ears! Just ask my Dr. Who had to pull one out of my ear last Monday! Disgusting to say the least. But he has had to do it before me too. I'm not his first earning case.

I see these little guys around the house on occasion. Usually the small black ones, and i just let them go. The only bug i actively seek to kill and destroy are roaches. But these little guys im chill with.
But having just looked up and found out they're called earwigs, i gotta say, i was a bit worried for a bit

they also like to crawl up the walls of a house at night and squeeze into every little crack they can find, which also includes small open spots at the edge of mosquito nets. When I find them in my living room (in second floor) in late summer it tells me that the net needs to be fixed again ;)

Very interesting information, I didn't know about their sexual dimorphism. In Greece, we call them "ψαλίδες" (=scissors) because of their pincers. They are also feared here due to their bad reputation.
