Earwig facts: Will they crawl in your EARS? | Animal Fact Files

- Earwigs have a bad reputation. It's commonly believed that these animals purposefully crawl into human ears in an attempt to lay their eggs on a person's brain. This is ridiculous. While it is technically possible for an earwig to crawl into a person's ear, and it has been documented to have happened in the past, this is an exceptionally rare occurrence! And they definitely aren't interested in laying eggs in your brain, they would rather lay them in dirt! Earwig moms are excellent parents and care for their young to ensure they have a higher chance for survival. Their pincers look menacing but they aren't venomous. Earwigs are harmless to humans, though they can sometimes bite with an unpleasant pinch to the skin.
Scientific Name: Order - Dermaptera

Ah yes, I recall a friend brushing one of these wee beauties off my cheek while young and for years we'd say he saved my life..clearly he was going for my "ear".👂🧠 Great video guys.☘
Whew close call!😉
@@AnimalFactFiles Indeed haha, was wondering if I could make a request video wise, a small red seemingly seasonal bug we used to misleadingly call "Bloodsuckers" back in the day, I believe their correct title is "Clover Mites". Mite be an interesting addition to this great play list. Apologies if it's already been done.☘💚
When I was little I would always see these, and they’d scare me. I’ve forgotten they existed!! But always wondered if they really did go into your ears, haha. Thanks for this video! It was very interesting!!
I used to see them a lot more as a kid, too! That's weird!! But so glad you enjoyed the video
Would anyone believe me if I said I saw a male Earwig use his hind leg to scratch himself like a dog? :)
Golden silk spider. Trichonephila/Nephila genuses...
If you’ve been checking in on my channel daily, you’ll see I haven’t been uploading. I’m going to post a video talking about why that is. You might be surprised at what I say.
Hey! I've been away for about a week for the holiday. I'll have to check your channel out and keep an eye out for that video. Hope you're doing well!
It’s uploaded:)
So, what do you think?
One of the coolest looking insects you can find in your backyard
I took a earwig and put it in a tiny plastic zip lock plastic bag that had fishing hooks and it stayed in my tackle box for 4 month and when i open my tackle box and remembered it the earwig was gone but there was a ghostly white spider in that plastic baggy that was sealed
That's a creepy crawly right there. Make a video about Velvet Ant aka Cow Killer pls 😊
Sure thing! Here's a link to the velvet ant episode: ua-cam.com/video/VEX8yFJqMho/v-deo.html
You don't lay eggs but you sure do crawl inside ears! Just ask my Dr. Who had to pull one out of my ear last Monday! Disgusting to say the least. But he has had to do it before me too. I'm not his first earning case.
I love this!! Trying to help convince one of my coworkers that they aren't evil creatures out to get you. Great video 💚

@@goteamslugs a heckin' itchy boi!! :00
@@yummy_guts6291 Haha yup! An Earwig with an itch! It was his tail/abdomen that he scratched to clarify. I'd imagine if the itch was near his head; he'd use his front leg. But no - an abdominal itch.
@@goteamslugs THAT IS SO CUTE omg 😭💞
@@yummy_guts6291 I concur pal! :)
I see these little guys around the house on occasion. Usually the small black ones, and i just let them go. The only bug i actively seek to kill and destroy are roaches. But these little guys im chill with.
But having just looked up and found out they're called earwigs, i gotta say, i was a bit worried for a bit
Really informative content as always :)
Thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying it =)
they also like to crawl up the walls of a house at night and squeeze into every little crack they can find, which also includes small open spots at the edge of mosquito nets. When I find them in my living room (in second floor) in late summer it tells me that the net needs to be fixed again ;)
Ahh they do love to creep in, don't they!
I drank one of these once.
Hate these things. Im leaving the video now...

Hmm... strange... your username suggests... oh 😳
Very interesting information, I didn't know about their sexual dimorphism. In Greece, we call them "ψαλίδες" (=scissors) because of their pincers. They are also feared here due to their bad reputation.
Scissors is an awesome name for them!
Yikes these bugs give me the creeps
Oh super interesting thank you!!!
Great job, as always!
Thank you!
Bug
I’ve heard they’re named earwigs because they eat the ears of corn plants.
Great information! I'd love to learn about Jerusalem crickets/Potato bugs from you guys
Thanks so much! And cool suggestion! Thank you!
In Sweden we call them "tvestjärtar" which translates to twotails!
I saw one inside the house and I worried if those insect will harm, I had a lot of insect bite and I confused if it's earwigs bite or pinch, it's a very itchy red rash,. Thank you in advance if you could answer me 🙂
Technically they can do both but if you're feeling it it's almost certainly a pinch. Hope it clears up soon! ❤️
This video was definitely made by an earwig
They figured us out, boys! SCATTER!
I had a earwig crawl down the side of my face. It freaked me out
Oof that would be freaky!
One crawled into my ear several years ago. It burrowed into my brain and formed a sort of symbiotic relationship with me. His name is Arnold. Over time we have learnt to live with each other.
Did you really call toads reptiles?
I remember being terrified of these for so long as a kid😭
Could you do an African fish eagle 🦅
Please 🙂
Great suggestion! Thank you!
Can you do hares
Yes! I love this suggestion!
