Phil was a bright light in the world of daytime talk shows. Always respectful to his guests and to his audience. None of the shenanigans or tawdry stuff of Jerry Springer, Maury Povitch and Geraldo.

Revisited Eileen Prose -such an on point interviewer. When comparing today’s talking heads she has to be one of the most articulate, and intelligent individuals. No hype just focused on the guest within interruption. Great interview on both sides of the coin.

That Girl had it all, now she's a woman and still has it all. I thank her for showing me at an impressional age that women can be strong and don't need a man to survive or define our lives.

I never forgot her views on marrying later in life.
I also remember her saying that it was family occasions at her home when she was growing up that cemented in her mind that marriage was not for her.
She remembered her uncles sitting at a holiday table having dinner and a discussion. One of the wives interjected a thought into the conversation and she heard one of the men say “what does she know? She’s only a woman”. She said that stuck with her. She told her mother she was never going to get married.

Marlo Thomas was way ahead of her time in the way she thought back then. I'm thinking this interview was perhaps in the 70's. I look up to the way she thought then, and watched her in That Girl, she was one of my ideals. I so agree that at 24 yrs. old it was early to get married. I didn't wait, I married at 20 yrs. old, big mistake. Though, having a Sicilian dad it was what he said that counted. When she said she has baggage and so does Phil, awesome. Take both baggage's and put them together, it can work. Happy it did/does for them.

so there's no way that you will be able to have a different career.
      well let me rephrase that
your career will be either praising Jesus or wishing that you had a drink of water .
BECAUSE Hell is Hot and you will be thirsty just like the man said please can I have just a drop of water from your finger and please go back and tell my family that they do not want to come here.
And AS for the other lady that said she would like to be Marlo Thomas I am sorry God did not make you Marlo Thomas and you will never be Marlo Thomas .
when you die if you are a Christian🙏 you will be in Paradise With Jesus and your main focus will be giving him all the PRAISE and all the GLORY because that is why he created. You so that You would .
have a personal relationship with him so that HE could love you unconditionally as you could love HIM unconditional as your HEAVENLY FATHER so please don't think that in your afterlife that you're going to be somebody else because you are definitely not.
there is no place in the Bible that tells. You 💜🙏🙏anytime concerning what you two ladies are talking about please read your Bible it will give you joy and peace that you have never known💜🙏💝

First she laments reporters asking HER about the state of her relationship with Phil versus asking Phil, implying that is sexist. Then she says she was happy about the fact her stepsons needed a woman’t touch in their lives. You can’t turn on staunch feminism one moment, then laud your femininity the next. Feminism needs to be softened and re-defined.

Marlo is the product of a traditional upbringing with specific expectations and defined gender roles, but chose higher education and a career, avoiding marriage and opting out of children in contrast to her mother. I think Marlo was conlicted for a long time, which isn't shocking, since feminism could be militant, uncompromising and rigid about women shedding their old roles. Few realized that would be much easier said than done.

A man can be as nurturing as a woman , Marlo knows this but I’m sure she meant to say that the younger sons missed having a female in the house that was more nurturing than Phil could be. Have to ask his children which one of them is more nurturing as a parent and in which ways.

I’ve always admired Marlo Thomas, both on-screen and off. I’ve been watching Make Room for Daddy recently, having seen some of the shows when they first aired and I was a kid. Although the shows are steeped in 50s and 60s culture, a recurring theme is the struggle between men and women to define their roles. Sometimes there’s a lot of anger and shouting, odd for a 50s/60s comedy, but foreshadowing shows like All in the Family. Sometimes it’s not played for laughs, and often Danny Williams learns something about how he had behaved and admits he could have done better. The 4th season in which Danny was a widower trying to raise his children alone has some sad and poignant moments. So perhaps Marlo saw those things in her father’s TV and real families, and they influenced her feelings about families, marriage, and relationships between men and women.
