beautifull :D I would love to see you on a vs-1 abstract instruments when it comes out! :)
We had great fun designing some of those presets, thanks for demoing it so nicely!
Thanks for the awesome vst!
Me: It cost me my life's savings, but I finally have all the synths I could ever need!
Arturia: No.
P.S: KeyStep Pro to create 4-part sequence performances from one disco board
Sorry to burst your bubble chief but Arturia has modeled the sonic integrity of the analog realm that you have spent a fortune on.

Everytime I visit Once Upon a Synth thinking I need more synthesizers I leave realizing I need more piano lessons.
But the OB-Xa V does sound stellar!
Thumbs up for not talking during a synth demo. The sound speaks for itself
Interesting seeing all the love over here for this virtual synth, considering on Arturia's official channel's reveal trailer, there was mostly the opposite.
Oh this one's fun. A lot of the presets are hitting me in the feels and giving me old school RPG vibes.
sounds like a nice warm and simple synth to work with. love the polyphony upgrade to 16 voices compared to the original fits the synth.
The composition skills are incredible
Nice demo of the more unusual sounds of the synth!
Thank you very much for the video. I fell in love at 6'58" and again at 12'19"
Thank you ! I like very much, Arturia and U-He is incredible !
sounds so good!
Love the arped stuff. Great overall sounding synth.
Your playing is fantastic as well 👏🏼
Tank you boi, That's Beautiful
Attention young synth lovers:
Don't worry about if it sounds like the original. Leave that up too the old heads. It sounds great.
thats what i thought, it sounds good when it server the song or beat. Sounding like the og doesn’t make my arrangements better, it just sounds like the og.
Correct!!$
But it does. Sounds very like my OB8.

This sounds beautiful and all and I'm gonna get it sooner or later but my OB-6 is going to stay ☺️
Me too. This is an OB-Xa emulation. The OB-6 is a totally different synth, and one of my favorite pieces of gear I've ever owned. It's not going anywhere!
+1

Awesome✌🏻

Just grab OB-XD for free. Same thing.
Very nice👍🏻
Hi! My question has nothing to do with the main subject of your video but I can't find the answer... What desk do you use?
did you get the arturia v collection? i think that might be my best bang for buck in terms of covering a vast array of synth tones.
How many sounds (as presented, with exagerated modulation) can be used in a song? But instead, if presented raw, it might be more convenient to decide if the type of sound produced by the synth is the style of sound one likes.
Until Behringer releases theirs, this will do! thanks, Arturia.
People complaining that this does not sound analogue. But it does. And it sounds great even with UA-cam's low quality.
Has anyone tried obsession? The presets on that thing are amazing.
I was kind of mad because Arturia’s isn’t quite as preset laden
software leaves me with money left over for good food!
ha
Sounds like a DX7, oh wait, iam watching this with my phone.
I personally feel that the OP X PRO II vst sounds way more impressive and closer to the real deal
Would be interesting to hear a matchup between the 2. OP X Pro II surely is the benchmark for any new Software OB-X
this is an ob-xa emulation, ob-x is different
i like what you do at 10:55 - i'd make a composition out of it!
Is this now available in V collection I guess? I haven’t looked to see it it’s available to download.
No, but it will be once the next version (8) is released.
would you say its worth getting compared to that free OB-Xd plugin?
It's hard to say as I don't have much experience with the OB-Xd. I just downloaded it to try it out now. It sounds pretty good. There's no way to save presets AFAICT so that could be one possible drawback. I'm not a purist and I don't usually compare synths directly. But at a very quick glance I'd say that if OB-Xd sounds good to you and you're making music with it there's no reason to buy another OB plugin. You'll probably get more mileage out of programming it and running it through nice effects than getting another similar plugin. That said, the ability to save presets or even browse some of the factory ones on the Arturia one is nice for productivity. Some of the modulation options on the arturia one are nice too (being able to draw custom "LFO" shapes and map them to anything, etc). The Arturia one sounds a bit better to me, but it's hard to say because I didn't compare identical patches. I'll post another video tomorrow showing the Arturia one's features a bit more. Whether or not it's worth the price I'll leave up to you guys. I like to just demonstrate the synths objectively and let people come up with their own conclusions. My general philosophy is always try to make most of what you have before looking to buy the next new shiny thing. Maybe I'll make a video about that too haha. Overall the Arturia OB-Xa V sounds good and I'd say it's a nice OB synth if you don't have one. It didn't blow me away as a "omg you MUST have this synth", but that rarely happens anyway. But if you already have an OB plugin and it's working fine for you then there's no reason to switch over. To me the gold standard for vintage emulation plugins is still the U-He Repro 1/5 so I'd always recommend that first before anything else. Hope that helps. P.S. This reply wasn't targeted at you specifically but more to anyone interested reading this.
@@onceuponasynth you can save presets, but i use reaper so i don't really know how loading and saving them works in other DAWs. might be obscured somewhere. there are entire banks of presets available for the ob-xd - it has quite a community of users behind it.
i use ob-xd for all the poly stuff in my music since i don't currently own a hardware poly. i really like the way the ob-x works and have used some arturia virtual instruments before, so your video piqued my interest.
to me the arturia sounds a bit 'better' (whatever that means), but that might have to do with the patches i'm hearing for the first time.
i've never played an actual oberheim so i'm not too fussed about whether the arturia one is 3.82% more accurate in reproducing the exact same sound as the original.
you raise a good point about not needing to go and buy the new cool shiny thing just because it has superior specs to what you're already using. i'd be interested to see a video about that.
that said, i think i'll stick with the plugin i already have. very nice demo, as always.
cheers for the thorough reply, i'm sure a lot of people will appreciate it.
@@onceuponasynth Great demo! By the way, you can store presets by clicking the logo in the top left corner I think.
@@onceuponasynth you can save presets in the obxd
In LPX OB-Xd presets can be saved quite easily.
For the love of synths please tell me what those chords are at 9:35
You should try the opx II, great plug
Nowhere near as good as this. Check out SEM V
@@selarman6731 are you REALLY sure about that? i have used opx II for a few months now...nothing sounds quite like it - sounds very analog to me
sounds damn good to me
Great synth but complex. If you don't use it all the time you have to re-read the manual. What I love about the OBXa V is that it sounds like an Oberheim and the feature set is just right. Simple but powerful.
Hi, nice demo ! I have often heard about Oberheim but could someone tell me what are the benefits of an Ob emulation like this one in comparison with a Prophet 5 synth (repro 5) ? I tried a similar vst (obxd) but i canno't stant the UI / colors / style... It doesn't catch my attention though i like the sound.
Well artiria's circuit emulations are often considered damned near spot on. You may dislike the UI of this one, but it is how the original looks and arturia takes great care to copy that, too... Even going so far as to copy the weathering from the original they circuit mapped. Artiria's are often also the most CPU forgiving of the emulations (with exceptions). Analog lab is also wonderful to mix and match synths and layer and stack them, all within a single plugin. Assloads of presets, too. Some by the original sound designers.
@@shadowhenge7118 Arturia emulations are very far from spot on usually. The mini moog sounds like a joke, the cs-80 sounds nothing like one, the prophet 5 is a far cry from a prophet when compared to repro 5, I could honestly go on and on but you get the idea. Too many people fall for their marketing and GUI's.

Sorceron - strange, I frequently use the CS-80 and Prophet and am pretty capable of getting a decent sound with a mixing chain depending on the sound ok going for, the the only real discernible difference between it and the real thing is that I don't have to wait for it to warm up or spot noise at me 😂
@@ThePaoOfTooh exactly. I'm think this guy is a purist and just rags on vst's. Or a vintage gear dealer... Either way. I've heard many of their vst's side by side to originals and they're scary close. The people who complain usually just preset surf and thus are hearing the features Arturia added to the original, which can all be turned off. Even the dx7 has a "vintage/modern" switch in the sub panel which let's you use a more detailed model of the original or a lighter weight one likely based off Dexed's work.

NKS yes or no? Arturia hasn't made it clear
No. They will probably add NKS support in a future update. For now you can use my NKS template patch: www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-and-electronic-music-production/1311408-arturia-ob-xa-v.html#post14747505
I WILL BE ABLE TO REPLICATE goblin'S COOL SOUNDS IN dARIO aRGENTOS MOVIES
What midi keyboard are you playing on? Do you love it?
The Analog modeling is actually perfect. The only thing you don't hear is aged component modeling.
How did you do the whole demo without stuck notes? This version has a serious problem with stuck notes~
Yea it sounds nice but I’ll keep my OB-6.
But keep the great work arturia!
Somehow this sounds so "Arturia" (not the playing). The older OP-X II Pro VST is MILES ahead of this and together with U-He's Repro 1 and 5, those are probably the closest to their real hardware counterparts.
Yep, this is just arturia sound drenched in FX.
@@meskisable and cpu usage
I have the opx pro ii vst and even though it's several years old now it's still one of the best.
No, this is actually one of the better plugins sonically. Much better than previous Arturia analog emulations. I have repro 1 and 5b and love them dearly. IMO this is in the same league.
@@juxty3102 it's true...it's amazing that software 10 plus years old can still go up against current offerings. I think I would prefer the opx as well from what i'm hearing. They need to update their website and do some damn basic promotion because that shiz is the fershizzle.
I guess when i was listening to this I was looking out for 'that' brass sound and it doesnt do it - doesnt have that turbo charged electric brass - its good that hey .... vsts cant make a real classic - its a good thing in way
You should demo the OP-X PRO-II by Sonic Projects!
How is this Arturia version compared to the OP-X PRO-II by Sonic Projects!?
@@mytoobusr The Arturia sounds more original.
OP-X PRO-II is the best OB emulation in my opinion, strongly recommend everyone to try.
@@selarman6731 thanks
@@mytoobusr The older OP-X PRO-II vst blows this out of the water if you're looking for something that sounds like an analog synth. I would highly recommend getting the OP-X PRO-II over this Arturia plug any day.
No "Jump"? LOL This sounds much better than what Arturia did with the Matrix-12.
OP-X PRO II is an older Xa vst, but still excellent.

I swear by it
It’s based off the OB-X, not Xa.
Fiddly to program if you dont use it a lot though, but even for prest playing opx is awesome i agree.
@@ggbwick8560 Yes!
Different synth you mentioned. The X is much more cooler. This one here is such a boring one with less options of modulating the OSC.
6:33 ua-cam.com/video/JX5oI5YYIZM/v-deo.html Jean Michel Jarre - Magnetic Fields 1
Doesn’t sound much like an OBXA.
Not including in V7? I give up with Arturia. Upgrade prices are ridiculous. Native Instruments all the way.
I have both, Komplete 12 Ultimate and Arturia v7. They both pretty much work the same.. lol I recommend upgrading every other year.
I think the upgrade is 49 now for V7 users?
It unfortunately very noticeable its vst.
It sounds cool but not like an obxa imo
Well it does. Several youtube videos prove it...
@@theboofin It does, but it's missing the magic that the real ones have. The real ones give you a feeling when you play them and I didn't get the feeling when playing arturia version. The hardware vs software thing is so debated but this is just my opinion
The obxa was inferior anyway to the obx , i owned obx and ob8 and for characterful sounds both were inferior to a prophet 5 , each to its own though what they like but oberheim ( apart from sem and obx) were overhyped
I am glad I have OB-6 and feel no temptation for this
Exactly. This software is no threat.
Software is all about using automation when recording. The modulation possibilities in this synth are incredible and easy to use.
looks like to me he is playing a synth like a pipe organ or a piano. .... not the best way to do that
Very boring because limited synth, even in the original version. The emulation sounds good nevertheless but something still is missing here.
This wasn’t the demo that inspired me
Yeah as always very lame playing and absolutely no tweaking. But nevertheless it's clearly obvious how the core engine sounds. And I think that's the purpose of those videos.
Some more modern sound demos would off been nice! This put me to sleep...
Sounds like every other VST out there.
Dale like si te dio sueño durante la prueba !!!! 😊😊😊
This synth is famous for pad and brass... I can't understand a demo using preset of el-piano, pluck, arp and things you can do far better with other synth...
I hate to be that guy, but I'm not AT ALL impressed by this. It sounds more like an emulation of, well, every VA-softsynth ever (save a handful at most) than an emulation of the Oberheim OB-Xa.
oooh....I thought it was an actual clone...😒
Just listen how the real deal sounds. ua-cam.com/video/KpXZZ8Olqpk/v-deo.html Compared to this it's like a joke. All arturias synths are just inspirations and not emulations.
this is actually a damning rebuttal ^^
Wow... thanks for sharing that link... it does sound... mmm, slighly different. Like comparing a puppy to a very angry grizzly.
This guy should learn Chords
Based on the sounds of this demo, I would not buy the plugin. I know it has great sounds, based on other reviews.
so they made a new GUI with the same engine, they are soo fucking smart at Arturia. Why not just design a VST that can do it all. Just choose your classic layout. But thats against their money rape.
Sounds nothing like an Oberheim tbh. I'm not even sure why I even bother to check out a new plugin when its Arturia anymore because they are always so far off the mark its not even funny. Way better options out there in plugin land.
Come on. The DX7 and Synclavier are great.
@@SomeoneCalledRob all the more recent digital emu's seem to be great, but like yeah, just check out the legend vs the arturias version, its a real shame. Arturia would dominate the market if they just stepped up the vst's that were up there with uhe and synapse audio
Sorceron I totally agree with you 100%. I have my OB8 listed for sale and I STILL will not ever buy this Arturia vst no matter how much I’ll miss the OB8 when it’s gone. I did sample majority of my favorite sounds from it , which is the best way to go (if you want that TRUE Oberheim and vintage sound)
SomeoneCalledRob dx7 is cool. Digital modeled synths aren’t bad at all though there are other dx7 clones more worth it imo
@@intromix My guy Intromix! let me get that OB8 partner!
Crazy....I did not liked any of the OB sounds in the 80th... and nowadays as well... No idea why they so ugly to me. 11:50 Sounds like a balloon squeaking through the valve. Sorry, no offense!
VST is finished already now that Behringer are bringing this stuff out not far of your price tags Arturia give up now.
Not impressed by this plugin. Better wait for the incoming Synapse Audio version.
Wait what??? Synapse Audio is making an OB6?????

...because he's a classically trained pianist?
Sounds plastic-y.
I have it. I've listened to it closely on my trusted monitors. It does not in any way sound "plasticky" to me.
Brandon Ryan sounds thin in this demo, and not much like an obxa.
@@BrandonRyan It's a beautiful sounding synth, isn't it? Very satisfying to use. Simple and powerful.
Doesn't sound very good. But I think it could be a user problem. As I can see boring patches were chosen and they were also played in a boring way
The guy playing this DEMO, apparently was told just 13 minutes ago he was playing The Demo!!!!
Cause this sounds like hell warmed over a hot plate !!!!
The Machine sounds terrific but not so much the player !!!
KEITH EMERSON STYLE and all will be fine!!!
still, arturia is one of the overhyped crap in vst world, even free vsts emulations done by fans like jx8p pg8x or dx7 dexed is far better than any arturia garbage

Get the Op-x if you haven’t already. This is absolute shit. What a f’n joke.
