As a Marillion/Rothery fan, I agree with you - in part. Actually, there's a lot of heart in DT, so has Petrucci. I just think, following your line, that JP is in his own dimension, aside from those you implied (and so is Howe or Gilmour). But you need some guts to play an instrumental cover of a not-so-popular vocal song in your gig. And when this happened, oh yeah, Petrucci put a *huge* heart in this. Finally: without Fish, it's way too hard to 'have the heart to perform this song'.
"Sugar Mice" such a powerful piece of music....... easily one of the greatest ballads ever written
The first time I heard this Petrucci solo I cried.
When your favorite band's favorite band is also your other favorite band
Me too
Fish comes from just down the road from me !
omg - just found this - Petrucci is playing Rothery - no words!
My God, i remember why Petrucci is my favourite guitarplayer ❤
Here is exactly where I started to listen to Dream Theater.
I am a lifelong fan of Marillion and Pink Floyd. John Petrucci is brilliant here, awesome performance!
Not bad, but honestly the version by Fleesh is untouchable. Look them up
Hot damn I don't like much DT but the heart Petrucci puts in Mother's solo tells me he more than fully deserves his success, this man loves music!
INCREDIBLE piece of music. Petrucci... and Portnoy... ... .... .....
And the others and their influences :-)
Maestro transcended one of the finest guitar peaces of all time
Absolutely magical and equally addictive
In my opinion, rothery is in another dimension. Great band, great musicians, but they don’t have the heart to perform this song.
ONLY In your opinion !!! THIS IS DIFERENT DIMENSION ....personal, I LOVE THIIS!!!

@@sisoie It's a Marillion one!!! 😀
Late to the party, but this is the original studio version, written and performed by Fish era Marillion.

Part of the solo is from Mother - Pink Floyd; exactly the same.
lol noob, this is from fish (marillion) from 80s
Actually you´re the noob. The solo from Pink Floyd's "Mother" starts at 5:20.
He plays the Mother Solo as well as the Sugar Mice solo
