- If this game doesn't show you just how far we've come in gaming I don't know what would! After recently playing the OG collection - my heart is about as full as it possibly can be and we're only one hour in... Not only is every hand placement, eye movement, camera angel perfect, but the overall game feels like a movie. On to the meat and po-tay-toes - Atreus is certainly showing aspects of his mother and I think Kratos is having a really hard time being open to his sons suggestions. It's really important to remember Atreus knows only a fraction of what Kratos has been through and we know his past greatly impacts his behavior now. So I am hoping to see major growth from Kratos and the journals already depicts that. Finally, did anyone else have their heart break when Atreus said "Stop thinking like a father for a moment and start thinking like a General" Ahhh well that's it for now - I hope y'all enjoy this emotional playthrough as it is one of my favorite game series!

Faye is the only person in the universe who can tell Kratos "Good boy" and still keep their head lol.

So, sad fact about the Fenrir scene: Part of the reason the performance was so powerful was because Sunny Suljic, Atreus' actor unfortunately also lost his dog a few months before that. And as much as he didn't want at first, he imagined him in his arms during that scene and he cried very heavily. He wanted to make that scene as special and powerful as he could because of that. Such a talented young actor.
i hope to see Sunny in a lot of stuff going forward!

GOWR is my personal GOTY. Enjoyed every minute of platinuming it and I can’t wait to play it all over again when New Game + comes out. It’s an absolute masterpiece in my opinion. Can’t wait to watch your playthrough!

I think Atreus' animal transformation ability is from his Olympian heritage. His grandfather was know to take animal forms often.
Loki in the mythology does have transformation. In fact he got pregnant while he as a female horse and have birth to sleipnir.

@@EldenLord-11 okay Loki transformers, but where did he get it from? Shape shifting isn't really a Giant ability we ever see in GoW, where as Greek gods are sometimes known to do it.

Right after the bear reveal I went back and watched the boat scene of Kratos explaining himself to Atreus since the first thing he asked was "Can I turn into an animal?" and Kratos pondering it for a few seconds.

I love seeing how GOD OF WAR fans continue to arrive but unfortunately many start with 2018 and then go back to play the first ones and that takes away the best experience, which is reconnecting with the swords of chaos and it is something that you will no longer be able to experience the same way. Visually speaking, one of my favorite parts of this game is how he can look so powerful and ageless in one moment, and then suddenly look old and weary in another.
For me, it's whenever he takes his armor off, and is totally shirtless again. Obviously he's incredibly fit, but he just looks much older, and *incredibly* tired without it. Not quite sure what it is.
Never thought I'd tear up playing a GoW game, but the Fenrir scene and the bear cub scene both got me. I need to get back to my playthrough as I haven't played it in weeks!
I agree perfect voice for Thor, and I imagine Thor would remember the titans as much as Kratos would.

The Eyes are NEVER a small thing, the Eyes telling a story, showing one or another thing about u. Just so much more, can't take it in words. I'm looking forward to watch this game how u experience it, play it and just enjoy it

I just finished this game myself, I'm soooo excited to see you play this game
I'm loving this play through so far. You pick up on so many emotions and small ties to previous titles and everything an empath would pick up on. Which makes your play through that much more enjoyable. I've watch many play throughs of this game and only you have made your own questions the way i did. Also. Loki in Norse mythology is known as a shape shifter and one with animals. Hence the transformation of the bear. Someone probably already said it though lol
So refreshing to see someone else notice and appreciate all the environmental details. I feel like so many just gloss over or don't even notice at all
God of War has been my favorite game since the original Greek Era, yes I was young at that time. I have an uncle who was in high school at the time, so I got my hands on some games I wasn't supposed to see, but they were great games.
ZERO SPOILERS, answering a question you asked in the video:
"I wish i knew how they met" is what you said in the Faye scene at the start!
In lore and legends, it is told that Kratos was dragged to Scandinavia by two or three wolves, i dont remember exactly how many,
He met faye, and they both nearly "took eachothers heads off", that fight ended in them making peace, and from then on they got together!

So far, really liking your play through! This is the first time coming to your channel and I'm very much liking what I'm seeing and hearing so far. Glad you kept it to UA-cam and not streamed! I've watched a couple people, or should say started watching, but then ditched them, while they were streaming GoW 2018. Immediately they were missing emotional moments and queues because they were too focused on their chat. And I get it, for some people this is the way they prefer to enjoy games, more through the interaction of their chat. But like you said, both the 2018 game and this one are literally pieces of art, and I feel that not focusing fully on them is a bit of a disservice to the developers for the insane hard work and effort they put into making these games about as perfect as a video game could be!
I especially like that you pick up on all the little body language nuances and the emotion portrayed in Kratos eyes. Even in the 2018 game they portrayed many of Kratos feelings through his eyes alone! One of my favorite moments in the 2018 game is when Kratos carries a sick Atreus back to Freya's place, and when they're on the elevator going up to Freya's house I panned the camera around him while he was pacing back and forth with impatience, and the sheer emotion going on in Kratos' eyes at that moment almost wrecked me!
Santa Monica Studios have outdone themselves again with this game. You're definitely not remembering the 2018 game very well, it had much of the same graphics, just not quite as upgraded. But they did have the snow disturbance and many other little details in the first one too. The seamless transitions and camera shots in both these games make it feel so much like you're playing a movie. This game won't let you down there! If you thought the ride on the dog sleigh was fun, you're about to go on the most incredible ride ever, just through this games pace and story momentum alone! Have fun!!
Funny you mentioned having a hard time coming from Witcher 3 controls. I was the opposite though, I just finished GoW 2018 and then went into Witcher 3. I had such a hard time adjusting to the Witcher 3 controls that I actually stopped and shelved it for the time being, then played Ghost of Tsushima first, instead. Later I came back to Witcher 3 and just said, "ok, let's just sit down and learn this now!" Played through most of Witcher plus it's DLCs, but never finished it yet. Strangely, with the new remastering for next gen consoles, I'm seriously considering restarting it from the beginning...we'll see!
Oh man, that dog death scene hits me hard. I lost my Buddy boy this year who gave us 16 years of happiness, and love. The night before he died, he called me to come see him in the garage. I kept petting him, and then put his head on my hand. I told him it is okay, it is your time. The next afternoon, he saw both of my parents, and then passed away. Crazy thing is, he died with a smile on his face. We buried him with his favorite food, a roti, and when we buried him, I put the dirt slowly on him until he was covered, then we filled his grave completely. I stayed very strong through the whole thing. He always knew when I would come home from work, and would be waiting for me. We went for walks together in the filed, and when I would do something, I would say the dog did it😅😂🤣 Our bond was unique, and I miss him everyday. I know for sure that he is watching over me.
I really love the detail where the ax senses his distress and comes to him when he is waking up from the dream

The eyes are the windows to the soul. I love watching these playthroughs just to see who loses their composure after the death of Fenrir. It's a pretty tough scene.
I feel you on the cats. My cat had pretty recently passed away (earlier in the year), so the scene with Fenrir hit me REALLY hard. I'd have cried to that scene no matter what, but the timing had me bawling. Beautifully done scene, though. They really captured the emotions so perfectly.
Have loved the god of war franchise since it came out in the earlier 2000’s as I’ve played them all through numerous times & enjoyed them so much . I have a lot of nostalgia for the og kratos than the new and also miss the original person who voiced his character then the older kratos we have now . Also miss his older appearance with the lesser armor and lesser viking look . And your right he side www more brutal and ruthless and etc . The god of war franchise went from greek mythology to norse mythology . I miss all the old stuff from how it was with these games then , haha . Glad to see you getting into this franchise ❤
What I also love about this game is that all the scenes are done through one shot without cuts.

Literally the best game I ever played in my life, enjoy every moment you can. Apart from a couple puzzles that involve brain usage it's such a great game.

Currently going through my second play through. First was on give me balance now the second is give me god of war. Noticing sooooo much more on the second go around and it’s just amazing.

Fantastic gameplay and commentary Maggie.🥰 This game gives us one the best opening action sequences ever with the encounter with Freya.🤯 Then hits us with a ton of emotions with Fenrir and Faye.😭 The best was the fight against the bear aka Atreus and the epic battle with Thor.🤗 The dialogue in this game is a chef’s kiss.😘 Also the conversation we (as the game player) were having with Thor as we were fighting him was so much fun, Thor: “I want to see the real you” Maggie: “I already did my Spartan rage, what do you want from me”😂🤣😂 Thx❤️ this game🐺🛡️🪓🏹
I played GoW:R for a hundred hours. I got the platinum trophy. Even though I played a ton, I was still sad when there was nothing left for me to do in the game. It was a fantastic journey.

That actor was the last person I’d have ever expected to play Odin. Then again, I guess all the Norse gods so far aren’t really what I would’ve pictured, barring Magni and Modi.

10:10 Yes, he did. Atreus' tattoos are all written in Norse runes.
There are several tattoos on different parts of Atreus’ body, and most of them are references to his skill and prowess in combat.
When translated into English, the tattoo on his neck reads "steady mind". The one that circles his right arm translates to "fortune to strike" or "lucky shot", a perfect representation of his archery prowess. Further down this tattoo is another one that translates to "skilled arm". Finally, the one on the back of his hand translates to "quick hand". To summarize, Atreus’ tattoos can be generally defined as ritualistic inscriptions summoning strength, luck, and speed in combat.
1:00:45 Yes, he is a shapeshifter and you know mostly Loki from the MCU and even then you saw him shapeshift multiple times like when he was Odin in Thor 2 and Ragnarok, Steve in Thor 2 and End Game, idk if you have seen his show but he also shapeshift in there so yeah he can shapeshift.
Minor correction, they're not written in Norse runes, they're written in proto-germanic runes. They were pretty much fallen out of use by the time the Old Norse language became, well, "Old Norse".
I know nobody is going to go there, but I played this game all the way through and loved it in true God of war fashion. I'm not going to lie, the only reason I'm going to watch this play through is because you are so nice to look at. Your beautiful with a very nice personality, funny and nice to listen too.

For me, the best games are the ones where I get emotionally attached to the characters, and where I feel like i'm playing an amazing movie/show. I've loved wathing and hearing your take on TLOU games and TWD, and looking forward to see what you think of GOWR 🤗
Yes the blood debt was killing a bit of kratos and just to bring back the ghost. Also if Atreus really knew who kratos was, he'd know why he's not so trustful. Loved the vid 👍🏿

The game is super fun. I promise you'll love the rest of it which is so cool except 1 sad part. No spoilers though. Playstation announced that there'll be a New Game Plus update on the game in March or April so we can replay the game and do things we might've missed, maybe also get new NewGamePlus armors and stuff for our weapons. But let's say this for the new game plus thing, when you start a new chapter for it lets say all the enemies and bosses will be the same level as you, no matter what difficulty you put on. That would be a surprise.
Also, this game starts at the end of Fimblewinter, which is the precursor event to Ragnarok in Norse mythology. Fimblewinter is a Winter that lasts for three years, so when God Of War Ragnarok starts, it's now been three years since God Of War 2018.

I'd say he was _very_ proactive about obliterating the entirety of Greece and their pantheon. He took preemptive action on almost every single kill.

That axe handle you have, “The Furious Maul”, honestly never use any other handle and just keep upgrading it when you can. Also try to get the full Vidar set of armor and use that as much as possible. You’ll tear through enemies!

You are right about Kratos height being smaller.
In the greek games and as the canon answer it was stated in the one of the greek god of war novels that Kratos is 228 cm tall (7 feet and 6 inches) which is crazy and badass XD
But now in the norse games, atleast recently confirmed when they made Ragnarok. It was stated Kratos was made to match the height of the actor Christopher Judge, which is 193 cm (6 feet and 4 inches) in order to be easier to animate and do mocap when they acted.
Not that it's relevant to the game, but you're absolutely gorgeous.
Now, looking back at the games you've played, I think I've found a channel that suits me perfectly.

I'm still pissed off, how this game got robbed Game Of The Year at the Video Game Awards to Elden Ring...
