This Sleepy Thailand City Comes To Life At Night

- In today’s episode i head out into Phayao in the early evening and witness the transformation of Phayao City, Thailand. When the sun starts to go down the city comes to life. I’m taking you on a journey through this sleepy city that magically comes to life at night. The locals start emerging in the eveningsY, creating a lively atmosphere.
As the day fades away, Phayao City starts buzzing. The streets that were once quiet and calm suddenly become more alive with energy. Although not super busy, it’s a big difference from the day time.
I take a look at the main night food market of Phayao City. I take a wonder, meet some locals and get some food. I then take a look at the small weekday market on the Kwan Lake front. Sadly i will miss the main weekend markets.
I also find out that Phayao has a party scene! The city's bars and clubs are ready to get your groove on. Whether you want a chill spot to enjoy a cold Singha beer or a place to dance your heart out, Phayao City has got you covered.

Phayao is a much more authentic Thai experience, similar to Lampang. Travellers coming here expecting another Pattaya atmosphere will be bitterly disappointed. It really comes down to whether we prefer a fake tourist spot or content to soak up a more relaxed rural town. Enjoying your no fuss, no big drama queen approach, Wayne 😊
That's right Lars, much more traditional here. It's not for everyone but I love it. Getting away from all the normal stuff, perfect. Thank you buddy!
I'm really feeling this one! Sun beaming through those clouds! 😊
Ahhh I miss Phayao 😔
My wife and i live in a small village on the other side of the lake for 3 months a year love Phayao to me the best place in Thailand every morning i go out on the motorbike for a few hours to soak up the beauty. Great vlog Wayne
Cheers Rob! Yes, it's a beautiful place mate. I will be coming back to this place 100%
I can understand your joy Wayne . So few tourists & genuine friendliness .
The lake will be busy weekends as a Thai beauty spot .
We are all guilty of following the same tourist trails like sheep . Many provinces require some thought & effort to get to
I met a few locals who said it gets a little busier on weekends. I will defo be returning for a few more days though. Thanks 👍
What an awesome laid back place Wayne and love those views across the lake to the mountains. Paradise!! Thanks again, loved it. 🤩
I don't want to leave mate, I could stay here a book a room for a month 🤣. But it's time to head to the next stop soon. Cheers mate.
Well, now I definitely need to visit Phayao! Great video mate!
Thanks buddy! It's well worth a visit.
Same goes here Alf! Cheers Wayne for your vid and intro to this gorgeous place!
Beautiful City indeed!
It sure is Red.
This's a very nice city, good quality of life and peaceful.
Phayao is the perfect place for a quiet life in Northern Thailand 👌
super good video, yes now I have to see that city too, looks very nice. and delicious with the big lake
Thanks! Yes, it's a really nice place, especially down on the lake front.
Wow! Thank you so much for enlightening us about this town. 😊❤
Thanks for watching! ♥️
Another great watch 👌..... This place is definitely on my radar. Looking forward to the rest of the series 😀
It's well worth checking out. Thanks buddy!
We really like the look of Phayao as seen it on a few Thailand videos, thanks for the share and hope that the rest of your trip goes well with fewer dogs in your path!
Phayao is a special place, still untouched by farangs. Beautiful little town. Not so many dogs in Chiang Rai , do I'm happy now 🤣
Great blog like always sounds like you really love that place injoy take care mate.
Cheers David! Special place 👍
Looks like a good place to indulge yourself in Thai language Wayne,Its got relaxed vibe..Nice video Thanks..
This would be the perfect place to learn Thai. Thanks.
Certainly looks like a very underrated place - but you’ve shown it to be well worth a visit 👌👍🙏👋😃
Bobby Dazzler Ant ✨
Having thought about it, Phayao is second on my list of preferred larger towns to live, just behind Mae Hong Son. Nan sits in third place, with Chiang Rai taking 4th slot. Much as I love Pai, over the last 10-15 years it has expanded and become so much busier that now my wife has retired from teaching we are thinking of relocating.
A little place on the edge of town would suit us nicely.
I'm still thinking if I should go to Mae Hong Son, I think I will have to do a series there. Chiang Rai was my favourite but Phayao has thrown a spanner in the works 🤣. Thanks
Definitely adding Phayao to my bucket list
Quoting a great Aussie movie The Castle, "Ahh, Feel the serenity" 👍
Phayao is still my number 1 retirement place. Such a great little city. Don't t think I know that movie 🤔
@@WalkAboutWayne I can see why! Hence we, your subscribers, are a loyal and captivated audience.
A movie reviewer I am most definitely not, but like that is gunna stop me, lol
You gotta see The Castle. It is very idiosyncratic of sections of our culture however it's funny and conveys how we can be so different but the same.
Looking forward to your next video
Jen
With a little bit of delay, I have the amazing opportunity to watch this Brand New Amazing Adventure!
The Sheriff's in Phayao Live and Direct!
It's all Happy Days for me now!!!
Walk-About Wayne is one of The Best UA-cam Channels out there, and is such a Good Blast!
Nice one Buddy, thanks for the support!!
The sun rays peeking through the dark clouds in the distance, over the mountains casting on the lake.
Reads like the beginning of a fairytale, ain't it 🙂
It's a chill place from the looks of it. People look soooo relaxed.
I loved that shot also, it looked awesome with the rain clouds and sun shining through. It's a really nice place. Thanks.
Been everywhere in thailand...this town is real thai paradise
Yes I agree, Phayao is a special untouched place. I loved it here.
@@WalkAboutWayne the real thailand , not too many pretentious farangs around here! Most people i know think thailand is pattaya or phuket or samui..they will never ever know❤
I really like this place.
It's a really nice place 👍
The night market has coconut and avocado shake, Fantastic!🥥🥑
Nice! I wish I tried it.
G'day Wayne,
Good to see you enjoying this town so much.
Those food portion sizes are enough to get your arsh working overtime. Bargain.
🤣🤣 Nice one buddy 👍
Hi Wayne, another great series. You look like a new man !!! It's great to see you're full of life. Big difference between day and evening/night. Special it is...
Thanks so much for sharing 😊
Thanks Denis! Yes, it got even busier but it was to dark for the camera, so had to settle for early evening. I'm a BIG fan of Phayao.
This is the best vlog Wayne I was thinking about chaing Mia or this place when I am older
Thanks mate! Both great places but offer different things.
Why wait Rob? Go for it! 😁
I was there last year...i don't remember which days of the week, but the restaurants and bars were all jumping! The place seemed very much alive at night! But, i also thought it also had a good blend of a family friendly atmosphere, too. There's also a great museum, which i loved. Overall, i loved Phayao, and wouldn't hesitate to return!
I miss Phayao, I really liked this place. I hope to return one day.
It's a good ride on the backroads, done it a few times with the big bike group. Then come back on the fast 118.
Nice Steve, the roads have been great! I've had them all to myself.
It might help to tell the population of places. Many of us will gauge according to populations we feel comfortable with. You're doing a good job though, and although your's were not the first videos for me to go to, most of the videos I have seen are by you now. The "Walk About Concept" appears to work very well, and your double "Take it Easy" ends it well. Your content is pleasant, and useful. Much success to your channel. You're alright man, from the Pacific Northwest, Spokane, WA USA.
Hi David, thanks for liking the videos. Population changes over time , so the video would be wrong info in the future. Thanks again for watching buddy 😃
Stayed there on way back from Chiang rai in January. The sky Pagoda is not too far away well worth a visit.
Nice one ! Sadly, I didn't get to see the Pagoda but I will be returning. Thanks.
Good on ya mate.
Cheers John🙏
555, I had to laugh about your mic note. For me it is usually noticing a bit of my mic visible at the bottom of the screen since it is mounted below. Now how many times I check it, there it is on screen. The sound was not at all bad before then. Nice town. Thanks for showing it to us.
🤣 Yep, first time my mic has ever failed to record. I'm not sure if it was plugged in or it just didn't record. It's a mystery haha. Thanks mate.
Amazing vlog Wayne! Will go visit sometime!
Thanks Jeff! Well worth a visit mate.
Ok Wayne, I will go to this place come january
Worth a visit Mark 👌
Thanks for showing us around Wayne. Motorbike vlogs are always great 😀👍🏼
Cheers Kashif! On to the next stop soon mate.
@@WalkAboutWayne 😀👍🏼
This is a "normal" Thai working town, most of the people must work everyday in the fields, just like most of Thailand, much prefer these towns to the madness of Pattaya and Phuket, look forward to rhe rest of your trip.
That's right, not many tourism work, so most locals are working in factories and fields. Yes, I much prefer this town. Thanks.
Fair play mate it looks a fabulous place to live
Cheers mate. This would be a great place to live, I'm already thinking about it .
@@WalkAboutWayne what I love about it there’s not much farang and the scenery is beautiful it’s very peaceful to for a very clean way of living I could live there with no issues
❤❤❤
♥️
🥰🥰🥰
😘😘😘
Great video Wayne waiting for the next one, anymore info you can give for places to stay nearer the town by the lake etc please
Thank you Mally. I stay at a really nice place next ( coming up in the next episodes) it's right in town and a really nice place. Phayao is a bit limited for good hotels. I will need to come back again and really research it .
Cheers Wayne
You’re a big fish in a little pond out there… extras included! 😂
🤣 Plenty of extras in Phayao. You feel like a rock star walking around.
Haha Definitely worth the drive.
Thanks for sharing! I think if they made a kind of beach in the area where you ended the video, they would get more tourists and expats there.
Yes, I think that would be a good idea. So much they could do to keep improving for tourists. Thanks
I lived in many places like this in Issan, after a week you get bored and don't want to be the 👽 walking around. Older farangs in these places will keep chatting to you for hours because they are bored and lonely even with a family. It's the same as Asian expats in the Uk, they would go nuts staying in a rural village.
Yes, I would agree with that. You would need something to keep you busy. I have a friend who lives here though, he loves it but goes on trips every now and then. Thanks
I stayed with the lady I'm friends with in a village about 10 minutes from there we spend a lot of time there. Also she took me up on a mountain or something to a national park that had hot springs. There's also I don't know if it's part of that lake or not but there's another lake or part of that lake that has the mountain view that's a big huge dam. Her village is actually having a train rail being built right now it'll be done in 5 years. They're putting an airport in that village too I believe there's a big university there.
Nice! I love Phayao, this was my favourite place, up until lately. I could easily settle in Phayao though. Great untouched area. Thanks
@@WalkAboutWayne I mean I'm kind of sad I didn't experience any of the party scene or the beach scene. I'm not big into the party scene anymore I don't think I would even like the places that have the girls coming up and approaching you and all of that
Give us 2 left eye winks and then 3 right eyed winks in the next video if you can get "extras" there.
🤣🤣🤣 wink wink, nudge nudge.
Looks really chill there 👌. Many mozzies around the lake?
Super chilled! The mozzies are about yes mate.
How is the Rainy season there? Being more in-land than the coastal area, is there less rain? I like rainy days myself, the sound of falling rain is tonic for my soul.
It depends , every year is different but we do get floods alot. It normally rains for a while in late afternoons.
Maybe some shallow draft sail boats to rent on the lake would help tourism
Yes, maybe they could do a few more ideas to help tourism. They do have a boat that goes out around the lake .
I see myself moving in there Wayne. But I’ll hold myself back till you finish the series. It’d be a good idea to ride around on your bike with the camera on your chest. Walking up and down in that humidity and heat must be tiring. Fun fact, I was searching for houses and condos for rent in Phayao on the web, found none 😂
It's a great option but I'd have to come back a few more times, and check the whole area out. Yes, condos a places to rent could be a problem. Thanks.
Been offered a rental house near makro so doing a bit of homework on the area looks lovely. However I don't speak thai
Phayao is one the the best places I've been. It does feel very remote though. The Expats that do live here, eat at the restaurants near the lake. Some great places to get a coffee also. Learning some Thai would be important to live in Phayao I think. Amazing place.
Does the path go all around the lake? Must be quite a distance if it does.
I don't think the path does, but the road goes around.
Wayne I have a strange feeling your going to be moving here soon I really mean that such a beautiful city so underrated Wayne and very reasonable prices I can really see you living here what I have heard the woman there are more sincere
You never know in the future Robert, this would be the perfect retirement town. Amazing food, prices and beautiful ladies.
11.25 There are 3 young Thai girls playing with the camera behind you too. 😅😁🤭
🤣🤣 I didn't notice.
This Phayao series was great to see. I wonder how many other places in Thailand, rarely visited by foreign tourists, are similarly charming and pleasant. There may be loads of places.
Thanks mate 👍. I've been thinking the same. Thailand must have hundreds of great untouched towns.
Not just foreign tourists. Many of the bar stool expats ignore Most of the country.
Nice of you to ask that kids permission to just put him on UA-cam 😮
Cheers 👍
You can take the boy out of Chiang Mai but you can't take Chiang Mai out of the boy🛕
Can never take Chiang Mai outta the boy 👍
How was traffic on the way there? Planning to check it out next week
I was the only one on the road really Steve, but I did leave before 6am. See a few truck here and there but I had it all to myself.
Wayne you should of stayed until today Sunday
There's back roads, so you don't use the 118, nice on the bike.
@@WalkAboutWayne not many people for sure but the roads are like a Rollercoaster haha
How far is Phayao from Chiang Mai mate?
Around 156km Richard. 2 and a half hours on a scooter, give or take.
I wonder if the town ever experiences flooding due to the lake/rivers?
That's a good question, and one I never asked. I'm not sure but I guess they must have some floods in the really bad rainy seasons.
there are floods in the rain seasons and droughts in the summer but it varies depending on the year
re-an put passa thai
👍👍
