@@hamishwells2877 - The claim that Escobar owned the island wasn't false. However, the claim that Fyre bought the island patently was. Billy and chums spent months dicking about on the island originally owned by Escobar but the current owner at the time got tired of them, chucked them off with only 3 months to go and that's why the Fyre disaster festival ended up in Great Exuma.
Still better than nothing. Proves that these millennials are not grateful. Yes, I know they got scammed but I rather take it done starve myself to death.
*wastes 1200 dollars and almost starves to death on an island* "Wow, these millennials are so ungrateful. When I was their age I paid 1500 dollars and the island didn't even have food"
Makes you wonder what kind of shitshow it would have turned into if they were able to keep it on the smaller island, because the Netflix doc brings up that there was no way to fit that many people on the small island. Not to mention, they still had none of the infrastructure, and it would have been even harder to do it on Norman's Cay.
@@rockerseven I think it would be more catastrophic. At least in the other island they had homes and local population. Imagine stranded in island which no power, food and water . No means to return to their homes
This promo looks like - "Festival for rich kids who arrive by boat with jetskis, and f*** runup models who want to taste fun live from instagram with music in the background"
Billy McFarland mocked about the "average poor american citizen" while being one lol. He didn't had shit and he ends up broke and in jail. I love happy endings.
Well, look at the clientele... Shit-for-brains know nothings. This is exactly what CA would turn into if it really did leave the union. They'd be back at the doorstep like a struggling teen who moved out because "You can't tell me what to do!" Failure theater
California has the 6th largest economy in the world. You're basically the same as these numbnuts if you think think Instagram-crazed millennials represent any substantial part of the state's population.
Just to think just for them saying that corny ass line “once owned by Pablo Escobar” they got kicked off the original island 😂 either way it was gonna be a failure.
It wasn't even owned by Escobar himself, but the point is, the current owners of the island stated they could rent it so long as they didn't mention it's previous connection to the Medellín Cartel. So what did they do? Of course they shoved Pablo's name right up there in the very first piece of promo material. McFarland really was a fuckin' idiot.
Marc Weinstein, in the Netflix documentary, stated pretty clearly that it was not possible on Norman's Cay, for that many people. Although he did mention that Billy originally was approached by a firm that it's pretty much a "festival-in-a-box" that could do it for $50 million. Billy fired them due to the cost and planning. If I remember correctly, they also wanted the cruise ship setup, not villas on the island, just like that pilot envisioned.

Yes, you are right, Lehder did. (Under the same logic, we can't say that Melania Trump is the president of the U.S.) My point is, that statement from Fyre Festival is not entirely accurate.

as a Bahamian, we honestly were surprised as much as any one else... I saw their ads on Instagram weeks running up the event thinking it was some ultra exclusive event and that they had their shit together. Turns out nope...
I actually feel sorry for the locals. My sister's ex boyfriend used to live there and she visited a lot and my friends own a house there and vacation a few times a year and most people who have traveled there tell me that tourism is a big draw for Bahamas and the locals are very friendly. I have no doubts that locals who were promised work were looking forward to it being a hit and drawing more people year after year. I don't feel too bad for the company that ran it: they do what was going on but just wanted their money.

I feel bad for the unpaid workers rather than the 'influencers' (I use the word very loosely) who went to the event. They should be paid more than compensation for this disaster they had to take part in.
I seen the Netflix movie and there was some nasty people there, one dude sprung to mind as he boasted how he slashed tents all around his and his mates tents so they could be left alone. 90% of those who went, are all social media influencers who are so far up their own arse, they don't care about other people's misfortunes, well they experienced it that weekend and the nasty side still showed up.
lowest price tickets were around 100-200 bucks, so rich is an understatement and 12,000 for going to a wonderful place was seeming promising, i mean usually it's too much, so much above that. then we found out the truth
The tickets were usually $1,200. Press for some reason added a zero on headlines over and over. Many people got it as cheap as $500 or even lower. Considering it’s a 2 week package to the Bahamas the how low was actually should of been iffy. Many week packages can be almost $2000.
John Smith there is evidence. It was on the website, and shit, and people who actually went to the damn thing have stepped up and said it was 100-200 bucks lowest price. and lets see 100-200 USD Price + "Luxury" island. People bought into it. Wiggly Fungus is right, 1,200 was an option(iirc it was the almost highest?) but it wasn't the lowest. People got it below 500 bucks
Wait, so those rich kids paid thousands of Dollars to party on a tropical island only to be left stranded without food, water and shelter? Jarule Stalin essentially build a gulag and had the rich kids pay for it. *Soviet anthem plays in background*

Why in hell was that a selling point? Maybe they thought that "Hunt for Hidden Treasure" was going to lead to a giant stash of coke?

Just to think just for them saying that corny ass line “once owned by Pablo Escobar” they got kicked off the original island 😂 either way it was gonna be a failure.
I don't think it was even actually owned by Escobar, it was owned by Carlos Lehder Rivas.
They shoud had cut that sentence....

@Brittany Beautiful that's sad man fr
If they'd taken 18-24 months to do this right, they could've had something special. Greed and delusion prevailed though.
Or if he didn’t spend all the money investors were giving him
Or if he put his overgrown ego aside and listened to his workers that told him “this isn’t gonna work” instead of firing them.

Was that "Pablo Escobar" stuff really necessary? As a colombian I'd say NO, and not only because I'm tired of statements such as this one, but because they aren't true. Escobar NEVER owned an island in the Bahamas. Glad they got what they deserved... their luxury meals made of bread and lettuce and stuff...
Kids in Africa eat better meals than what those rich dumbasses are currently eating right now.
Nicolas Agudelo - DJ / Electronic Producer he did own it tho.
That was close enough, Carlos Lehder - Escobar's partner, owned this island.
Yes, you are right, Lehder did. (Under the same logic, we can't say that Melania Trump is the president of the U.S.)
My point is, that statement from Fyre Festival is not entirely accurate.
No, he did not, my friend. As a colombian I've done a lot of research on the Medellin Cartel (in fact I had to live in that very same era when I was a kid), and I can say that he personally didn't own that island.

It was good. Hulu has one too. Everyone knew about it when it happened but I don't think most knew about what went on behind the scenes. The founder was straight up nuts.
On balance, I prefer the Hulu documentary tbh Roach. I liked the Netflix documentary but it's slightly tainted by the fact it was made by Fuck Jerry.
The Netflix documentary was very effective about what happened on the ground and why the festival was a disaster but the Hulu documentary was much more successful in showing why people fell for it and uncovering how much of a scam artist Billy McFarland truly was and what his motivations were.
.
The Hulu documentary also showed that McFarland was a scammer from an extremely early age and that his other company, Magnises was a steaming pile of turd based on lies.
The interview with McFarland also showed him to be a compulsive liar and someone who has never been held responsible for his fuck ups until now.
This is why the Hulu doc is better.

My sister's ex boyfriend used to live there and she visited a lot and my friends own a house there and vacation a few times a year and most people who have traveled there tell me that tourism is a big draw for Bahamas and the locals are very friendly.
