    My A4 2ltr turbo petrol (2013) stage 1 cost me 280 and put it from 170bhp to 220bhp, both shown before and after on the Dyno. Noticed the difference immediately. As for it feeling normal, as you said, after a couple of days, yeah, you get used to it pretty quickly but then that's the same with anything. You buy a 65" TV, looks massive for a few days then starts to look smaller and smaller. Good honest review though.

    Thank you for your honest review bout remap, you literally saved me from spending my hard earned money. I had been contemplating for ages after reading such praises bout how your car is transformed after remap. I can see your honesty and I am taking your word for it. I will just enjoy the standard performance of my car, Thank you very much..

      +Jeremy Cubs your welcome. i'm glad it helped you. you might want to consider that some remapping companies offer a refund if you're not satisfied wit your remap.

      +mrlopes1234 I own a 64 Ford Grand C max 1.6 tdci with 115bhp, I have actually spoken to a few remappers and been told don't have to pay if I'm not satisfied with the results and they'll just switch it back to standard right away which is quite reassuring but even so I wouldn't want to be in that awkward situation, your experience probably is enough for me to just leave it as it is and just buy a powerful car in the future.

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  9 років тому

      yeah i understand. to be honest, i don't think it would be worth it on your 1.6tdi grand c-max as its a big heavy car. they could probably remap it to make it around 140bhp-150bhp. it would only be a little bit faster and you'd soon get used to it.

    I've had my Audi A5 1.8 Coupé sport back 58 plate, remapped, and the engine treated with Hydro flow..All for £275.00 The car went from 268 to 220 bhp, and with a nice clean engine after the hydroflow treatment i took it for a test drive immediately after, and straight away i realized how much more responsive the trottle was, better acceleration, and more speed, and when i was on a dual carriageway i pushed it quiete hard and it went like a bullet. I was impressed.
    Now taking it back to the garage in Bentley mill Walsall to have a performance exsaust fitted as well, plus more suitable air intake devices, better brake pads, and basically trying to get to stage 2, to increase the bhp even more...And the costs will be considerably cheaper than anywhere else..bottom line, for me, it was money well spent..

P.S The remap gave me problems with my flywheel... Too much torque for the stock flywheel but i hope to make another video soon.

  • @danielfranke5570
    @danielfranke5570 9 років тому +11

    I think you're expecting supercar performance from a 2.0 turbo diesel... you uppe'd the bhp by 35bhp, and your torque by 60 odd lbs/ft that's a decent gain from " ANY " car getting remaped, tell me what other modifications you could of done for less money and got the same results OR better?.... maybe you should get a switchable map next time, so you can switch between " Stock " & " tuned " you will definatley feel the difference then..

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  9 років тому +2

      Daniel Franke
      I'm not saying that the gains (on paper) aren't good but i did expect a little more of a feeling of acceleration. When you see your car has an extra 35 bhp and 60lbs/ft torque it seems like a lot and expect a "BIG" difference. Obviously i didn't expect my car to move like a Arial Atom lol.
      I just wanted to let people know not to expect too much from their remap. I'm not knocking it, I would always rather have a remapped car then just a stock car. I think it also depends on the car you're having remapped too. My car is a big/heavy car.

    i felt the same when i got a remap, it just didnt wow me enough for the money so my next car which is a mondeo mk4 facelift 163bhp i decided to go with a tuning box from TDI tuning in the UK which has an extra plug on it for boost control and straight away i noticed a huge difference, way for power, i have it turned up full and never had an issue. i do have a larger AIR TECH intercooler and induction kit but even before all that the car felt very fast compared to before. it set me back about 450 euro but at least i can take it out when i change my car, send it back to the company and they will reprogram it to suit my next car for a fraction of the price i paid for it. happy days.

    To be fair your expectations were out of this world...30hp wont make a huge difference and you keep saying you notice the performance but is not that big...The torque should help with better fuel consumption and maybe with a better remap you could have gotten way more but that was your choice...

  • @Lifeguruonafence

    Sounds like it’s done the job though, without hard mods if you notice a little bit more pull then I think that’s good? I’ve got a 2008 Boxster 3.4 and considering getting this done, the cars fast already just would like a little bit more pull in the mid range as all the power is after 6k on my engine

    Celtictuning quoted me a 58% power gain on my 1.7cdti zafira from 108bhp to 177bhp and 199ft/lb up to 299ft/lb. They say it's a safe map but not sure if the car will handle it.

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  6 років тому

      depends what your flywheel/clutch is rated to take in terms of lbs foot of torque. My flywheel/clutch is rated to take a max of 300lbs. Originally my car was throwing out 280lbs but my remap made the car throw out 360lbs... i only found this out not long ago so be careful and do your research. I ended up having to get a new clutch and flywheel last year, not cheap!!! Hope that helps.

    Few people have claimed that amd's dyno is a little "generous", e.g. a 270bhp car from amd is actually 240bhp. Have you run a dyno anywhere else?

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  9 років тому

      SiimpleHarry
      Hi, no i haven't tried a dyno elsewhere but I doubt that their dyno machine can be that far off. My car was originally 170bhp and on their dyno it showed that it was 173bhp (BEFORE REMAP). I have heard about AMD's dyno being a bit generous though on some forums. lol

    This is a nice and honest review about his car, but first of all what can you expect from a 2.0 a5 ??? Don't get me wrong but, let's take mine as an example
    Mine is 333bhp stock supercharged , from this kind of engine you have expectations evens if is just stage1 done ( stage 1 will give me about 100bhp and 120-150 torque more) but if it's a small engine and diesel there in not much to expect.
    But what is done is done so enjoy it .

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  8 років тому +5

      True but not everyone can afford to buy an S5 or RS5 or M3 or AMG lol
      I totally get that a remap on a weak car is pointless. It's like giving an old man a tank of oxygen; he'll move a bit quicker but it won't be much faster ;)

    • @the___truth8038
      @the___truth8038 6 років тому

      Most people who get an ECU remap don't start off with 333bhp lol, hence why they get it done to begin with.

  • @SuperLC1010
    @SuperLC1010 8 років тому +8

    That sucks, they have definitely ripped you off mate. My BMW E90 320d (184bhp) version got 48bhp and 90lbs-ft gains. The guy took his time and was being worked on for around 7 hours. And that's a stage 1.
    Mine is around 235bhp and 368lbs-ft torque. From the standard 181bhp & 278lbs-ft.

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  8 років тому +8

      I'm glad you're happy with your remap. That's some nice gains. 7 hours sounds like a really long time to do a remap. Mine took around 2-3 hours. Also I'm guessing that the guy probably maxed out your car's engine which I don't think is a good idea in the long run. I think that's asking for trouble on your clutch and other components.

    • @SuperLC1010
      @SuperLC1010 8 років тому +1

      I kinda thought it was a long time. He made sure that everything was done in small increments to make sure it didn't cause long term problems. I had the DPF cut out recently as well which has gave it maybe another 5-10bhp. Don't be fooled though, dpf removal is very costly and isn't a massive gain tbh. Maybe helps a bit more with the mpg but that's the biggest difference. It's a baby diesel 2.0litre and I won't be doing anymore as it's a total waste of money. If it was the 335d then I would spend more on a stage 2-3 since they are twin turbo and excellent for tuning due to it's displacement.
      So the remap and DPF cut out for mine is probably estimated around 60-70bhp & 100-110lbs/ft of torque.

    • @earvinb9929
      @earvinb9929 7 років тому +2

      SuperManBeemerrr i wouldnt think he was ripped off, my idea of it was you were fooled to think a remap that took 7 hours would be better than a 2-3 hour remap, all they had to do was plug the acu put it in the dyno and test drive it. they must have had some customers and did yours last.
      regarding a remap, ive had my bmw f20 116i done at amd essex, 148bhp to 210bhp stage 1, i felt the power increase straight away but the additional power got to me eventually, my coil packs fail 3 months later and my car was a 3 yr old 22k mile car. then had some coolant leak issues which took a week in the garage as thye had to order the part and remove alot of components to the car to get to the leak. and my turbo rattle which is very common on the 1 series got worst and eventually sold my car a year later, just lost confidence on the car for breaking 3 times in a year,

    if i was driving local 20mph i wouldn't bother with a remap and leave it stock.
    nice video read up, im getting my e92 177bhp remapped by amd, reason im getting it done is due to the half price offer on the remap once amd fit exhaust onto my car; cuz i drive mostly on the A13 everyday around 30mins of driving; I felt abit more power will make it an enjoyment on driving; im hoping my car be pushing 220bhp once everything done.

    • @QuattroBajeena
      @QuattroBajeena 7 років тому

      I got my wife to test drive it yesterday, she doesn't know what a remap is, till she drove it. She was like 'no wonder why you was boosting all over the place' she hasn't realized that I Have change the exhaust :D (she will tell me off lol) I had to give her the talk on what to do when driving from walm up engine at cold start to local roads and shifting gears and not to speed up on the bends, my cars running 17'' inch back tires are 225, ive noticed on bends the back will kick and on roundabouts can't floor it due to wheel spins when going sharp right exit. my 19'' stock was a pain to drive with due to feeling all the bumps. will get 18'' for comfort drive and handling with wider set of back at 255.
      end of the day may give good power but if it doesn't handle well could go wrong.
      at 100k oil pump, timing chain, brake disc and pads, front back suspension, control arms, drop link, bushes all been changed giving it good hanging. cars millage is at 117000 now. considering to change the turbo & clutch flywheel before is buggers out.

      Antonios Giannopapas engine should be ok. Have to worry about the clutch and turbo more. Some oem clutches are not made to take the extra torque. My clutch is rated to take 300lb/f torque so my clutch is under more strain. Only found this out not long ago.

But two questions brother because i don't have any experience on chip tuning. Does it affect the rpm to be more than 900 when the car is standing still - not moving and secondly does the engine make more noise while driving?

    • @mrlopes1234

      it idles as normal and the engine does not make more noise. the cars is basically the same, just a little faster.

      Hi, not too sure about that... My guess is that it will be just the same as a manual or s-tronic/DSG car. Just check that the gears don't need to be re-programmed too. As far as i remember, the DSG version needs to be changed when remapped. Contact a well know remap company and ask. Hope that helps. I wouldn't bother tho(in my opinion).

    So true. I even thought my car ( Seat Cupra) hadn't gained much the more i drove it. It has increased ( HP) but I'm either used to it or i have not pressed it enough. I think if you want more power prepare to spend at least 3k on a stage 2 including hardware

    I remapped my Passat b5.5 estate from 130hp to around 165 hp and you can feel the difference yes, but honestly it wasnt worth 300 euros...It unleashes more torque but instead of it going in gradually it realeses all that power from 2000 rpm to like 3000 rpm at once... Really makes bumper to bumper drives annoying so I find myself driving bellow 2000rpm, hope my DMF doesnt mind 😐... I suggest keepin those pennies in your pocket

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  6 років тому +2

      Great comment. I just had to change my DMF (clutch and flywheel) cost me £750 and that was by buying the part off eBay and finding a cheap garage. Labour was £250 and part was £450. Audi dealer wanted around 2000 and the cheap quote i got was £1400 from a local garage. My torque went from 280lbs to 360lbs and the DMF max torque is 300lbs, so yeah... only find this out not long ago. I thought a clutch was just a clutch. I never knew that they have certain levels of torque that they can handle. I think that AMD should have told me this at the time and i hope they are telling new customers! To be fair, my car is older (2009) and quite a bit of mileage (70,000). Do your research guys. Hope this helps.

    • @-Yurkey
      @-Yurkey 6 років тому

      mrlopes1234 to be honest I was told by SM chiptuning here in Croatia that the clutch will wear out sooner than without the remap so they didnt hide anything, too bad the guys at AMD didnt tell you about this (btw I asked the price for my DMF with labour, about 850 euros 😥) ... I'm trading in my 2004 Passat for a 2011 Mondeo and I'm 100% sure I am not gettin any kind of performance upgrade. Their DMFs are delicate, they are probably close to their torque limits with stock setup.

    Wish id seen this a few months ago! I completely agree with you, I went to shark in Mansfield in my octy vrs 170 and paid 450! No graphs or dyno tho. Like you, I expected more. Makes little difference bottom end, more noticeable if you accelerate from 60mph . The power feels very similar, but lasts longer through the gears so it still pulls up to the red whereas previously it would be pointless revving past 4k. Quite often(80% Atleast) it idles at 1k and drops to normal 750ish every so often, guess the dpf is confused,kinda anoying. Fuel economy wise, I think its gained approx 3mpg driving similar journeys. Wouldnt bother doing it if I could go back, would wait til I have an issue with the dpf(cr tho so might not happen) and get the dpf removed and mapped at the same time, and leave standard til this happens.

    • @mrlopes1234
      @mrlopes1234  9 років тому +1

      I know how you feel. The thing is that I'd rather have the remap rather than no remap even tho it only makes a small bit of a difference. I've looked into removing the DPF but if you do then you car will be blowing out that black smoke which I think looks horrible and make it look like there's something wrong with your car lol
      A bit expensive (£400) but only other option is to buy a faster car in the first place ;)

  • @aronlinecoach
    @aronlinecoach 7 років тому

    I would say just because you've had 170bhp already (which is quiet enough) and you did only stage 1 remap you may not feel the big of a difference. I think remapping suits more diesels under 100hp so in that case you def gonna feel some difference. As well every engine get different gains after remap depending on your engine.

  • @TaylorFerre

    Hi guys I've got an Audi A3 2.0TDI sport back 2012 stock mine was 140bhp the place I got it done was Buckingham motors in Woking which sell cars and next to it in partnership they have a garage that do everything from mots to remapping and the franchise they have is called QUANTUM TUNING I watched this video before getting it done saying how I would get use to it in like a week so the guy from QT said go for a straight jump to stage 2 which gave me a gain of 211bhp and 455nm of torque. It was the same price and it is so good everything else I have is bog standard no deletes no nothing just remap. The price it cost me was 249£ and they offer a free straight pipe kit and fitting. But I didn't want to do that cause I want to actually pass an MOT but in a nut shell don't get stage 1 get stage 2 it's worth your money cause it's the same price. When it comes to economy if I put my foot down I'll lose 10mpg compared to when it was stock at 140bhp but saying that it levels out when driving economically because you have increased throttle response and because you have all that power you don't have to put your foot down as much only if your a nob like me but that's cause I'm 19. Hope this helped. Same outcome on golf TDI seat tdi and skoda tdi

    I remember the old days when getting more power/acceleration meant mega money.
    You want to feel speed then weight loss, buy new low weight alloys instead of steel wheels (remember those), throw away the spare wheel etc. Get the cylinder head ported and polished £¥€$. Lightweight engine components and flywheel. Full stainless big bore custom exhaust with manifold. New inlet manifold for better flow if needed.
    All this for 30 odd horses and mega money and you are moaning about a guy just adding all that power using a computer, cmon.
