- STEVE HACKETT GENESIS REVISITED LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH
It takes a legend to bring a myth back to life. A unique treat for music fans worldwide, Steve Hackett's critically acclaimed live production 'Genesis Revisited' has so far triumphed in Europe, Japan and North America alike and is still going strong; on May 10th it celebrated its success at a sold out London's Hammersmith Apollo with an ecstatic audience. Genesis Revisited - Live at Hammersmith - a unique performance with guests including Nik Kershaw, John Wetton, Jakko Jakszyk, Steve Rothery and Amanda Lehmann.
Hackett made its mark on prog rock in the Seventies with his astounding, innovative work as Genesis' lead guitarist, before embarking in a fulfilling solo career in 1977. In 1996 he released 'Genesis Revisited' - followed by 'Genesis Revisited II' in 2012 - where he reinterpreted Genesis classics from Golden Era (1971-77), keeping the original spirit of the songs intact while giving them a new edge, with the help of an impressive plethora of special guests. Steve Hackett is the first ex member to revive that particular segment of the band's seminal career; the 'Genesis Revisited' Tour, Steve's most ambitious production so far, sold out its first batch of dates in the UK.
Nad Sylvan is excellent on this.
We could all do this.
@@HarryTurnerMedia and better! XD
Even after all these years I’m not fan of Nad Sylvan. Sorry.
But I agree with you, Jeff!
@@nadsylvanofficial7944 in my humble opinion I think this is wonderful, your vocals are superb.
It is often forgotten that Steve Hackett has been one of the best guitarists in the world for more than 40 years.
I agree totally (almost 50 years), but Rolling Stone magazine doesn't think so. Never put Hackett in the top 100 guitarists. Rolling Stone mag is a disgrace.
Maybe...but wait until you hear me cover Smoke on the Water in half time before you decide who's better.
@@blakemore99 Never mind Rolling Stone. Steve Hackett is a quiet and modest man, and because of this this slipped under the radar, some what. A guitar genius.
@@blakemore99 I think your namesake is one of the greatest
@@blakemore99 There guitar poll is horrible every year for 40 years now. Steve has maybe the top 10 best guitar solo's in history along with other greats like Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page.
I feel the spirit of Genesis when I listen to this band. Superb indeed.
I am 58 and this album has been with me since I was a boy … thanks Steve for keeping the great music alive !!!
Steve Hackett was so musical with his compositions. His writing and playing were immediately missed when he left Genesis. His guitar parts were so different and orchestral. I can't say enough good things about his playing.
I couldn't agree more..
His musician nuances are so sutil and precious
..
Been a Genesis fan for fifty years but this band that Steve assembled is amazing 😍😍😍😍
Nad Sylvan is so talented to sing each Genesis song so fantastically...I love his voice....cool guy indeed....the song is another masterpiece among so many which Genesis did......thanks for sharing...I love it - thanks Steve Hackett....
Thank God this man preserved himself well enough to share this music for another generation it's timeless
Thanks Steve For keeping the flame of good old Genesis alive for us. It's fantastic to see you care about the wonderful music you created with your fellow geniuses almost half a century ago. Chapeau!
The solo in Firth Of Fifth gets all the love, but man I love this one. Masterful use of the volume.
One of the greatest songs ever composed.
How can this man sing so beautiful. An amazing singer. And the version of the song. So well played. The album of my life!!!!
He is very good and very similar (both his timbre and his style) to Gabriel
That's Nad.
damn he hasnt lost a beat since 73. legend
The magic of Genesis, from the magic year 1973
Years Steve with Peter Brains Steve and Peter the bRAIN
The Best Year of our Lives, contrary to the Harley assertion. Though he probably didn't intend to be taken literally.
@@Kwinquark1 my 22nd birthday year, special as! The best bands, musicians, music and spirit soul, we woke up!
And 74 !
Hackett
Steve Hackett is the true Genesis and a thoroughly decent guy thank you Steve you are the true keeper of the flame.
What a mystical, madrigal composition and performance. I love the "Selling England...." LP. Like all Gabriel albums it must beplayed beginning to end. Get some wine, burn a little incense, smoke a joint, put your heaphones on, turn down the lights and out you go.
Superb. Absolutely love this.
I had the pleasure of experiencing Steve and the band at the Symphony Hall Birmingham playing the entire Selling England album, best gig of my life
Steve Hackett.......an absolute genius.
I have Always been in trouble when trying to decide what's Genesis best Song.
Certainly this is among the best three, in my opinion
I love these Hackett versions. Back in the day, he usually got buried in the mix under Banks keyboards.
I must exclaim!
Absolutely fucking AWESOME!
What an outstanding musical unit!
Steve Hackett and Company......Thank you!
If there was ever an album called"Prog Rock Greatest Hits", this would be the title song.
I Love Steve Hackett's PLAYING of Acoustic Guitar and Electric..👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗😍Amazing Talent..
Steve Hackett of the epitome of underrated
I so love this track, it's remained engraved in my psyche since I first heard it in 1973, when I adored it, a young woman of 22.
I'm just amazed to hear it now, full of the spirit of the original version, magistrale version, with Nad on vocals, same quality and Steve's wonderful soaring guitar, brilliantly supported by the orchestra, chorale, and of course the band, a great performance, bravo!
This Is Not a Song or Music
This Is An Heaven Masterpiece
The Supreme Musical Perfection
Steve Hackett Like Beethoven
Steve Hackett Is Pure Emotion
The Musical Gift of Heaven
His Band Is Amazing,Fantastic,Supreme
The gift of heaven??
Lighten up will ya?
He's just an entertainer!
Steve has achieved a perfect balance since leaving Genesis of playing his own post Genesis music and playing the original Genesis too, and both are of the highest calibre.
That gentle, haunting outro is one of the most beautiful passages of music ever composed. It's how I imagine it might feel being transported out of this world... and into the next.
Thanks for sharing and thanks to Steve Hackett for keeping this timeless, ground breaking , top quality music alive. Superb performance w/ an exceptional group of musicians, and of course this tune is an absolute masterpiece.
Total masterpiece
I've seen Hackett live six times, twice with Genesis and four times with his own band..I've never once heard him play a bum note and when he improvises I'd take him over Steve Vai,Satriani and those other 'fretwankers' anyday..a wonderfully gifted and tasteful guitar player who never plays a note unless it adds something to the song.
So True!!
Saw Hackett Live in Montreal 1974 Seilling Tour at Université of Montreal , when Steve playing all of this , my God , many poeple was crying when they ear solo guitar of Steve on Firth or his Horizons and his brain Musical Box Dancing Knights and some others
and Suppers , music by Steve anad Tony and Lyrics wrote by his friend Peter
'fretwankers' :DD true
You are absolutely right! The example I like to use for comparison is Eddie Van Halen. To listen to his breaks in a song, it's like the song is going along just fine, and then somebody sticks a cattle prod up his butt for about 30 seconds, then the song returns to normal. Then you have Steve Hackett who plays with such artful precision, like In the Shadow of Hierophant and plays each note with such passion.
I've always admired Steve's guitar playing. This puts a smile on my heart.
Brilliant. What a song from one of the greatest albums ever
I think selling england and close to the edge are the 2 best prog albums ever!
@@tommyrawlings3046 I have to add Trilogy by ELP as well.
Wow Wonderful music. How many kids in the 'burbs in the '70's spent hours trying to figure out this guitar? Bravo!
Gerry Berry so bloody true!
Never realized how important SH was to the Genesis sound. Love the dynamics of where everyone is positioned on stage🎤🎸🥁🎹🎺
I really love the increased woodwind presence on these Steve Hackett arrangements. Kudos!
My god, if you close your eyes and listen its like listening to a young Peter Gabriel - plus!
Pretty much it's their voice.
@@jucaso5352 Pretty much it's his voice and not "their voice"
the voice great !!!!
No need to compare dude as both singers are masters of their craft!
@@igalflint very respectfully (given that you are here), no, it is THE voice of classic genesis
i was 12 i think. still amazes me today. obviously nothing compares to gabriel. nobody.
Old father Thames.......... Stand between River Thames and the Battersea Power Station development...Really PLEASE whilst this masterful track emanates. Tears may fall!
With the Progressive (with extraordinary songs like this and others), the English (but also Italian ... PFM, Banco, Orme ...) musicians have expressed and transfigured the great legacy of EUROPEAN music in rock, up to overcome it.This beautiful song is paradigmatic in the definition of "Progressive music"
Perhaps the one i liked the most was museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra.
Golzi was, in my humble opinion, quite underrated.
Super💖💖💖 Diese Musik sollte niemals enden.
Great band, great guitarist that came from a monumental band.❤❤❤
Grazie di esistere Steve...
Nad's voice is a pick of the litter, what a gift! I didn't think I could hear this music live again in this way, thank you.
In their pomp Genesis, Hackett especially, were the definition of musicians serving the song.
The beginning of the band as it should be. Fantastic performance. And Nad is the real PG.
Great to see Steve & his band, performing this Genesis, Peter Gabriel-era, classic from the "Selling England By The Pound" album, from 1973. Nad's a bloody marvel, too. Love his performance of it.
Brilliant Genesis album.
Bought it on vinyl back in the day with the lyrics on the sleeve
Still quietly smile when I here them
Thank you Steve
I was 80guy, i knew genesis after they were 3 guy, and then i found this album, and i'm amazed with that music, n musically i love 70s genesis n early 80s
To this day, still my all time favorite Genesis song!
Thank you, Rulie for providing us with the best music on the planet.
Nad's voice is completely eerie on this. Fantastic!
markkens9 Not my cup of coffee.
Steve and Ned are a great yteam
Perfect , BMT .
This music make me cry!
Magnificent timeless and hauntingly heart emotions Vocals and articulate precision
Love Steve. Love the whole band. Lee Pomeroy. Man oh man does he have fun and just shines!
So so good to hear a modern and very well done version. Wish at 73 years old to witness this in person, as a lifelong Genisis fan this would be a dream come true! God Bless these performers to bring this magic to us.
Saw them in Southampton last night and you would have been in good company. The average male age must have been 60+ and a fantastic concert.
Fantastic performance
Thanks to Steve to relive the old genesis classics.
You are so right Joe. I loved Genesis and for Steve to bring back these classics, well, I'm in tears right now. I'm 63 now and this music was a tremendous part of my teenage years. MEMORIES ABOUND!!!!
@@delby66 this music is eternal, you can listen to every age like classic music. Have a good time Stephen.
Steve é único, grato por sua arte.❤
Oh man, I never thought I'd hear a live version of this classic song. Extraordinary, just wonderful.
If you search a bit harder you'll find a great version by the 70's lineup.
For me , this brilliant track not only sets the tone for the rest of Selling England By The Pound but is also the high point of album .
It’s the ultimate Genesis song for me. Every member shines through and there’s nothing else on Earth that sounds like it.
Hear, hear!
Master piece of progressive Rock.
easily one of the greatest prog masterpieces in history
This whole album in fact. Genius.
Dancing with the Moonlit something or other.....
I love that Steve has such a sense of humour about it while people lose their s**t in the background.
To bring the live-sound so close to the original sound is simply grandious! 👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻
GeniuSteve Hackett
The Supreme Musical Perfection
Sensacional! Parabéns Steve e banda.
Is great that Hacket recover this masterpieces of rock prog for the new generations
Definitely one of the better Genesis cover bands out there ;)
Is it a cover band when you helped write the original song? Maybe it is?
This is all live! In the 70s at first a musical Revolution and today a living Legend.
Drummer is exactly spot on.
Genious. Incredible song and perform

Genesis Forever
So glad I was able to see them do the whole of Selling England By The Pound live. There was not a weak link in this band. Every one of them impressed me on more than one occasion and I didn't detect a duff not anywhere.
Roger King on keyboards is amazing.
Sin gabriel.ni hackett..se murió Genesis..
Pretty much any band who'd hire this singer will become instantly better. He's a classic! Nad Sylvan would have been a star in the '70's.
Steven Wilson, hire this man!
Steve Hackett playing this and many in Montreal 1974 Université of Montreal , poeple was crying when they ear the end of Suppers Ready of Steve or his guitar for his Musical Box and Dancing and Firth and many others of Steve , since 45 years , i was there , i m not young lololo
2:17 Acid test is the Mellotron coming in here.👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊😊
The playout is gorgeous on this.
One of my all time favourite songs - ethereal, magnificent and wonderful, still apt lyrics - Gabriel was an incredible and sage lyricist from such a young age. This is a terrific version - Steve and the band producing more magic.
wow! Everything is here, with no fake!
Thank you Rulie Arifin, My heart flittering like a butterfly 🦋
... thought the moonlit
Mr Hackett, you are Irreplaceble. few musicians cam hold this charcteristic, but you, my dear, cam hold this. please,
be proud. You deserv it.
Genesis of the 70's Fan...This is just WOW!
We should be grateful to Nad, I can't count how many tunes I have heard without the original singer that lose so much due to a very different sounding voice, even when its done well. We should all be greatful to Steve and all the other players, who among us through that all these years on we would ever hear this wonderful music played live again? It has made an old man very happy.
Nad totally nailed it. Hackett is a guitar genius. I’ve seen them quite a few times and this performance was sublime.
This is just sublime. A virtuosic and loving recreation of such a timeless song. Thanks Steve, and band for keeping this wonderful music alive!
Steve Hackett on this song (via wikipedia): "That tune started off with the influence of a Scottish song, then it moved into something that I think of in a more elegiac way - something nostalgic and wistful, and common to a lot of Genesis tunes. Then it bursts forth, it fights off its shackles, really takes off like a rocket, into another section, which seems to borrow from something that sounds more Russian in a way. It’s European, but then at times, it turns into the jazz that I liked originally - but big band, with the accents."

I don't see much love to the drummer and I think he's amazing
He’s a monster!! 👏🏻
He just nails these tunes!
Steve Hackett a anti-star guitarist but at the same time a fantastic musician!
Genesis forever and ever.
Steve Hackett Is The Musical Gift of GOD
The old songs in a new light, so exciting.
Yes, its perfekt 👍
3:08- 4:15 is absolutely brillaint. The whole tune is amazing.
Steve Hackett, I have loved these songs for years from Genesis....but your group is so refreshing. I am not sure how I found you....it just happened, but so glad that I did.
My, my, my--LOVE that 12 + 4 dual-neck....what a rig! Steve always has the BEST at hand, not a single cylinder misfiring. Near-perfection!
The BEST thing is to see those excellent musicians enjoying, smili g,sharing a GREAT time as well deliver an incredible, perfect show for the rest of us.
Love this guitarist what an amazing tone so tuneful folky and rock brilliant.
