Im trying to get organelle to act as both a synth and a guitar effect with orac 2....i cant quite figure it out. I havent figured out how to get it to be an effect
put the synth on 1 chain, an fx on another chain... just remember on the fx chain, you need to turn the input gain for that chain on the router. (its probably better to field questions like this on the C&G forum... better formatting etc, and others can also help you)
May i suggest adding a quick "emptying slot" shortcut. I always find myself having a cool patch and adding one too many module and just being stuck in the menu.
its a good idea, and I understand the issue. unfortunately it's difficult to come up with extra shortcuts, as most are potentially used by modules/patches, which restricts patch developers 'creativity'- so I've been very careful to not reserve to many for Orac itself. (basically, its only HOLD encoder , then with various key combos... but Ive used on those up ;) ) that said, I'll think about it, perhaps I can come up with something....
@@TheTechnobear Maybe making a "delete slot module" in the main encoder press menu ? Would still have to get through the menu but if it's at the bottom or the top of the menu it's manageable even with lag. Thank you for all this and the feedback, it's greatly appreciated !
@@Eidraify I don't want this to be too prominent, as clearing a slot is not that frequent a function. so, whilst i recognise the importance of the issue, it's still a bit of an 'edge' case. after a while, most users tend to get a bit of a feeling for where the 'limits' are. note: Im also considering adding some kind of 'cpu' load, so you don't have to exit to the organelle menu to check the current cpu load... but that only marginally helps, since some modules are very expensive on cpu.
@@TheTechnobear yeah cpu load might help indeed ! I can sometimes feel when the limit is about to break, maybe i should save the preset before testing the limits, i can see how i could fix the issue by changing the way i use orac in general.
can it load ANY organelle modules, or just the ones included in the orac folder? I have tried to import others but they don't show up in the folder. Ie 1008, or transient segmenti
orac modules are a little different to normal patches, since they need to 'co-operate' with other modules .... so like a VST is not a just another application on a computer. you will find various videos Ive made on how to turn an organelle patch into an orac module, as its a fairly simple process. (many others have done this) also, check out my previous 'Orac 2: easter egg' video where I show a little special mode which allows you to run ONE organelle patch within orac as a module.

Really loving your work and your very engaging videos - love your style man :-) - thanks in advanvce if you can shed some light on the graphics thing - cheers Mike
you need to start MEC, and select 'pushkontrol.json' with the encoder. its best to do this AFTER starting orac, since MEC needs to connect to PD to be able to send notes from the pads. enjoy :)

This is so good. Thank you Mark! I have a question i struggle with all night. Could you please explain - the Overloop patch is not working as the original one in terms of eternal overlooping? I mean it record, but after it stops, the recording I did only play when I push the button with the recording. Is it okay or I am dumb? Sorry for taking your time.
odd it doesn't do that for me.... what I do is a) press aux to record b) press aux to stop recording... after (b) it immediately starts playing the recorded audio. I can then (if i want) press a key to play one of the other recordings... does the above not work for you? (I assume we are talking Orac 2.0 here, and using the Overloop that I shipped with Orac 2.0, dont use the one from Orac 1.0)
@@TheTechnobear Oh, sorry. I don't know how but it started to work properly... Wow now that's huge for me. Thank you again! Sorry for bothering. All the best Mark, have a nice day!
If its for the Organelle, then zop is correct, just copy to Organelle Patches folder and you will be offer the opportunity to install (Organelle OS 3.1) if its for another platform, this is not the link you are looking for ;) so let me now which you are after.
short answer is yes and no ;) there is no binary build available, and I don't plan one for desktops, as its not a focus for me for Orac due to my time constraints. however, if you go to my GitHub repo, then you can find the source and compile it and it should work on a windows PC (though I've only tested on Linux/Mac). sorry, its not easier - bit its just me, in my personal time - even now it takes a lot of time/energy to continually develop/update and release orac ... so I have to set boundaries and be focused in certain areas. positively... it is all open source, so if someone else wanted to contribute to desktop builds, that is very possible.
Someone may be able to direct me - I saw a comment on one of the other discussions of the new OSC remotes to the effect that they found the timeout on the menus a bit too short (as do I), and Mr The Technobear, in his reply, patiently expounded on which bit of the script to edit. Of course I can't find that now... Does this ring a bell for someone?
Mark Taylor it uses lemur ,which I’m not sure is available on Android or not, if not you would recreate with any app that supports OSC. ( see pure data client as an example)
this is really obscure... I really dont understand what this does...at all... patchbox does not need this, like, at all to play with pd and save presets or whatever
Orac is best thought of as a modular application, where the modules can be programmed in PD. this means you can combine modules dynamically without opening the PD editor! of course like any applicaiton, its not for everyone, use whatever works for you to make music.
@@TheTechnobear so it launches multiple instances of pd ? I mean, I can launch my patches from the command line, and the whole thing is commanded from buttons/keyboards and displayed on a screen...pisound itself has a button you can program to launch patches...and jack allows for programs to connect audio and midi so I don't see where orac brings something new (at least on raspberry pi)
@@curtisnewton895 no... it dynamically builds a pure data patch composed of subpatches... and allows them to communicate e.g. one module might be a synth module, another a reverb , it allows the user to select these, and then combine them and passes audio between them... its also exposes each modules 'parameters' so that the user can update them. probably best idea is to watch my Orac on the Organelle video... and bare in mind the modules that I load are all in PD, so users can create new modules for modules that will automatically show up in the UI. of course the PiSound has no fixed UI, so this is done via a remote application or something like a Push 2 as a display. I think what your missing, is that this is all dynamic and requiress no technical knowledge on the users part. as I said earlier... if you find combining patches using jack/pd what you need then you might not be the target audience .. use what you know and make music :)

@@parafernalia66 so you want to just use midi channel 16? S1 Router - Chain 1 Midi In Channel = 16
but as i said, this will not affect midi clock/transport as these messages are not channel based.
note: you can in orac, in the clock module (S2) , turn on /off midi clock transmission if thats an issue.
btw: its better to discuss this on the C&G forum here : forum.critterandguitari.com/t/orac-2-0/4154
(or on the blokas.io web site for raspberry pi etc)
@@TheTechnobear I try ! yes sorry thanks
(basically, its only HOLD encoder , then with various key combos... but Ive used on those up ;) )
that said, I'll think about it, perhaps I can come up with something....
@@TheTechnobear Maybe making a "delete slot module" in the main encoder press menu ? Would still have to get through the menu but if it's at the bottom or the top of the menu it's manageable even with lag. Thank you for all this and the feedback, it's greatly appreciated !
@@Eidraify I don't want this to be too prominent, as clearing a slot is not that frequent a function.
so, whilst i recognise the importance of the issue, it's still a bit of an 'edge' case.
after a while, most users tend to get a bit of a feeling for where the 'limits' are.
note: Im also considering adding some kind of 'cpu' load, so you don't have to exit to the organelle menu to check the current cpu load... but that only marginally helps, since some modules are very expensive on cpu.
idk if a keyboard shortcut as a debug on organelle could work, could be cool
@@TheTechnobear yeah cpu load might help indeed ! I can sometimes feel when the limit is about to break, maybe i should save the preset before testing the limits, i can see how i could fix the issue by changing the way i use orac in general.
can it load ANY organelle modules, or just the ones included in the orac folder? I have tried to import others but they don't show up in the folder. Ie 1008, or transient segmenti
no it cannot.
orac modules are a little different to normal patches, since they need to 'co-operate' with other modules .... so like a VST is not a just another application on a computer.
you will find various videos Ive made on how to turn an organelle patch into an orac module, as its a fairly simple process. (many others have done this)
also, check out my previous 'Orac 2: easter egg' video where I show a little special mode which allows you to run ONE organelle patch within orac as a module.
@thetechnobear were i cant dowload the Orac 2.0??????
Aldan Grass which version? ( platform)
@@TheTechnobear I am using the Organelle1 with the last update 4.0
I download the Orac 2.0 in the patchstore but i don't understand how to installed the ZOP file pack please help thanks ✌🏼
@@aldangrass3979 i replied on patchstorage...
put the zop file in the patches directory, then when you mount on Organelle - it will offer an install option.
if you still have issues, please post on C&G forum
@@TheTechnobear Thanks for your instructions what I was missing was to make a file and throw it in there jejeje. thanks and I'm enjoying the Orac having a blast!.Thank again, from the caribbean island.
Hey Tim - I'm new to Organelle (love it of course) but I am a longtime Ableton Live user - and have a Push 2 - I grabbed the new Orac and then plugged in my Push 2, but the Push 2 dsiplay didn't display any othe graphics - although the Organelle was reacting to the pads being pushed down - and the P2 seemed to be doing the same - but no graphics appeared on the screen. The Organelle is one of the new 2019 ones and I assumed it was shipped with the latest OS - so, in short, any thoughts on why the graphics are showing on the Push 2 screen?
Really loving your work and your very engaging videos - love your style man :-) - thanks in advanvce if you can shed some light on the graphics thing - cheers Mike
you need to start MEC, and select 'pushkontrol.json' with the encoder.
its best to do this AFTER starting orac, since MEC needs to connect to PD to be able to send notes from the pads.
enjoy :)
@@TheTechnobear thanks a lot Tim - I thought it might be a case of starting things in a certain order - I'll give it a whirl and thanks for the swift response - much appreciated - enjoy your weekend :-)
the amount of value you've given the organelle is ridiculous
This is so good. Thank you Mark! I have a question i struggle with all night. Could you please explain - the Overloop patch is not working as the original one in terms of eternal overlooping? I mean it record, but after it stops, the recording I did only play when I push the button with the recording. Is it okay or I am dumb? Sorry for taking your time.
odd it doesn't do that for me....
what I do is
a) press aux to record
b) press aux to stop recording...
after (b) it immediately starts playing the recorded audio.
@@alecyuzhny no worries, glad its working ok for you now
does MEC work with push 1?
Sorry, I’ve not got any support for push 1 , as I no longer own one - I traded it for my push 2.
YESSSSSSS
Your are a genius and your efforts are very very appreciated.
yo! can you reupload the zip file on patchstorage? I tried downloading it but it showed up as a "zop" file !
If its for the Organelle, then zop is correct, just copy to Organelle Patches folder and you will be offer the opportunity to install (Organelle OS 3.1)
if its for another platform, this is not the link you are looking for ;) so let me now which you are after.
@@TheTechnobear cool thanks!! I didn't know that, my bad
Does this work on PC? I'd quite like to experiment with it but I don't have Pi or Organelle
short answer is yes and no ;)
there is no binary build available, and I don't plan one for desktops, as its not a focus for me for Orac due to my time constraints.
however, if you go to my GitHub repo, then you can find the source and compile it and it should work on a windows PC (though I've only tested on Linux/Mac).
sorry, its not easier - bit its just me, in my personal time - even now it takes a lot of time/energy to continually develop/update and release orac ... so I have to set boundaries and be focused in certain areas.
positively... it is all open source, so if someone else wanted to contribute to desktop builds, that is very possible.
@@TheTechnobear I understand thanks for the info :)
Does this ring a bell for someone?
no, Ive said the next beta version will have a new parameter - but its not released yet :)
TheTechnobear Thank you!
Very cool, I want one! Does the remote control app you're showing on the iPhone also work on Android?
Mark Taylor it uses lemur ,which I’m not sure is available on Android or not, if not you would recreate with any app that supports OSC.
( see pure data client as an example)
how can I delete a preset?
Your have to delete the preset json file ... there is no UI to do this within orac itself.
( same goes for renaming presets)
@@TheTechnobear cool appreciate the info
Can you load your own patches to use in the modules?
yes, Ive also created a video to show how to create modules for it.
(these are written in PD)
When I download orac it has no presets!
Organelle ? Did you install it? You dont unzip it , the zop file has to be copied as is
My orac download has a drum loop playing? How do I turn that shit off?!
this is really obscure...
I mean, I can launch my patches from the command line, and the whole thing is commanded from buttons/keyboards and displayed on a screen...pisound itself has a button you can program to launch patches...and jack allows for programs to connect audio and midi
so I don't see where orac brings something new (at least on raspberry pi)
I think what your missing, is that this is all dynamic and requiress no technical knowledge on the users part.
as I said earlier... if you find combining patches using jack/pd what you need then you might not be the target audience .. use what you know and make music :)
you're into music - how about wearing a lav? can't hear sh.
