How To Hold Bottom On Fast Flowing Rivers

So I've heard this several time before but not sure i'm doing it properly. First it seems like for ever before the lead hits bottom Almost like its being dragged downstream without touching the river bed at all. The problem then being its hard tell when to start and stop letting line out to make the bow. the rivers I've fished have been big. Was even advised to fish 160gr. lead. Alos how big does this bow have to be, few metres, several metres? :)

The size of method feeder needed depends on the depth and flow of the swim you are fishing. Faster the flow the heavier the feeder. Also, once cast, feel the feeder down by trapping the line on the spool with your finger and bring the rod tip down slowly towards the area and you should feel the feeder hit the bottom. Then, again the amount of line let out depends on the depth, flow and size of the feeder. The bigger the bow of line, the less pressure there is on the feeder. Try letting off a few meters then go from there.
