As child I adored Sophie Tucker. She was often on Ed Sullivan show which my grandmother never missed and I would feel real joy and delight when Sophie appeared. Her charm, radiance and often extravagant and sumptuous clothes, jewels and furs thrilled me. And seeing her here now I feel the same as 7 decades ago. Thank you for sharing this. 🥰❤️
Lost in time but somehow this person knew my grandfather and gave a signed copy of her autobiography to my (then teenaged) mother, addressed to them both. So curiosity led me here. My mom came from a poor family in Ohio so it's unclear how they would have met.
One of the reasons our society is so divided today is that we no longer have programs like Ed Sullivan, which was on Sunday evening on CBS. Ed Sullivan was a showcase for an incredibly broad range of performers: from The Beatles, Petula Clark, The Doors, Dave Clark Five, to Sophie Tucker and Lawrence Olivier and opera singers, to outrageous comics, plate spinners, and more and more. This exposed the American public to types of culture they would not know of otherwise. There is nothing like this bringing us together today.
I think you've got a point. We gathered as a community to watch this performances. We don't have a single point of reference anymore. In short, lost our moral compass.
A true gem! I have a couple of her Edison cylinders and a few of her 78s on OKeh,Columbia, Decca and Mercury. Also a Mercury LP.I have a few pieces of sheet music with Sophie's picture on it.
Iv always wondered what she looked like performing, she was one of the earliest female songwriters that could perform them as well. She was wonderful and very funny in some of the songs iv herd before this

One of the great leather-lunged vaudevillians, who had to project their voices to the last row of the balcony, unaided by microphones.
Great to see a legend in her final years still doing it as great as they did for there whole career.
I. Love. Her. So. Much. This was an incredibly beautiful poetic and retrospective performance. Just amazing. Love you Sophie, rest in peace 🤍🤍🤍
Sophie's speaking voice is beautifully lyrical in a perfect pitch. I love the last of the red hot mamas!

That’s incredible. I found her by listening to 1920s music. Amazing

You forgot ELVIS ❤️
I have Some Of These Days on an Edison Amberol cylinder. Her first recording of her theme.
I found out about her because I found one of her phonograph rolls at a flea market. It was sadly broken, but it is still cool
One of the greatest stars of the last century. .

We certainly miss our red hot momma these days

❤🎉❤🎉❤
Early transsexual?
What? She's 73 years old and smokes heavily. She started singing without a microphone in 1906. Considered the first lady of show business.
This certainly is a stupid remark, just get some information about her and try to think again
show some respect
Stupid person - your showing your ignorance there
You are really a dumb ass.
