SEM isn’t CEM. Sem was an oberheim synth with a multimode 2pole filter. cem chips were the 4pole low pass made in an ic package one of the first “filter on a chip” designs :) that’s why you’re noticing the big change between the SEM filter in pigment and the modeled CEM filter in the Arturia prophet V. :)

@@RedMeansRecording the Prophet 5 was kinda voice to sound a bit like a polyphonic Minimoog. Dave Smith loved the Minimoog but wanted to play chords. So I would probably start with the ladder filter.

Other than that, the patch you created here is pretty damn authentic. Hats off to you (and grudgingly, Arturia ;-) )

I pretty much stumbled across it while tinkering. I use a Novation K Station, load up preset 300 (the default preset), lower the mod wheel almost to the bottom, & modulate the mod wheel as you play. SSI/SSM and CEM are not SEM. In fact the Prophet 5 was voiced to sound a bit like a polyphonic Minimoog. Most specifically the SEM is a multimode 2pole (12db slope) filter whereas the P5's filter is configured as a 4 pole lowpass ladder.

so the patch on the wave 2 is located at D:22 [i think its factory, and I added my own layer D to it].
      Heres the breakdown:
Layer A: Basic Saw, Amp-env transient on, Wheel controls cutoff, eq on, LP24 filter w/drive @ 2, Aftertouch controls tremolo amount
Layer B: Shape Square, 30% pw, amp-env transient on, Wheel controls cutoff, eq on, LP24 filter w/drive @ 2
Layer C: Shape Square, 50% pw, Amp-env transient on, LP24 filter w/drive @ 2, pedal controls layer volume [min off, max-8]
      [Layers A - C EQs are grouped]
Layer D: Basic Saw, Amp-env transient on, eq on, LP24 filter w/drive @ 2, pedal controls cutoff and layer volume [cutoff: min 3, max 8; volume: min 5, max 3].
[the original patch didn't use layer D, but I added it in].
Almost forgot to notice, all layers have both unison modes engaged.
The amp and filter envelope ADSRs, Idk how to give an exact level amount w/o tweaking, which could change the readings. I kinda go by ear w/em.

"Secondly, this patch is almost surely recorded at least twice, and panned hard right and hard left. It was also recorded with the legendary Prophet 5 analog synth (using pulse waves), which has a particular character to its oscillators and filters. So, if your patch doesn’t sound exactly like the original from the get-go, don’t be discouraged. Since the Prophet has 5 voices to work with, be sure to turn the number of voices up to 5. You’ll find this option in the bottom left-hand corner of Helm."
You don't need to delay a channel to get the stereo effect and chorusing of the double tracking.

    • @a_8764
      @a_8764 2 роки тому +2

@@RedMeansRecording I was wondering about this too. I've always thought (based on what people have told me online) that if you simply duplicate a track in a DAW and hard pan them to left and right, you're simply making it louder. If the signal is *identical* in both channels it's still technically mono right? It's a different story if you record a guitar or vocal part twice since the two takes will never be truly identical, so the small differences between the left and right creates a wider sound.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I just don't get how two identical signals panned left and right aren't still just mono.

Hey mate, would it be possible to contact you via Instagram? I have spent over 2 weeks (yes, really!) on recreating this sound, and I think I got a very good result, which you might be interested in. I have tried out multiple plugins and compression algorithms too. Very interesting video too, I never tried researching the original synth's specs. Nice Jeremy.
Edit: I also know that this isn't the exact purpose of the video, rather teaching techniques to learn, but I would love to share it with someone who has done a similar thing.
