- Here's a lovely vintage vacuum cleaner manufactured in 1973 and in almost factory fresh condition. In this video I unbox the cleaner, fit a new belt and LED bulb for the headlamp and demonstrate the cleaner in action on carpet and using the optional cleaning tools.
If you would like to buy the LED bulbs shown in the video, you can get them by clicking on the Amazon affiliate link below:

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating, the montage of cleaning shots are always so professionally done. It’s also the best way to gain a sense on just how well these vintage cleaners clean. Definitely my favorite part of these videos.
What a stunning Hoover, these really were built to last and easily repairable. Looks alive with that light guiding the way! Great video.
Good to see the old "beats as it sweeps as it cleans" going on.
Nice example of a vintage Hoover and the Nostalgia of the Rumble from the brush roll 😁
Such a nice blue colour!
I love that color blue hope you are all doing well stay safe Roger
My grandmother had that vacuum when I was young
Very satisfying! Great nostalgia! It did a lovely job--good ole girl. Thank you Roger!
Glad you enjoyed it
This is a great vacuum
Really looks beautiful
Still have my moms 1976 hoover
How pretty! Hoover was coming to the end of their quality products, what a great machine!
Amazing to see it even like that
I love things like this
Wow Roger a famous 1970s retro Hoover Senior smashing I love all of your videos of the Hoover Seniors and Hoover Juniors any type of Hoover branding really even the constellation the celebrity and turbo power
My grandmother had this l miss it dearly to my heart
😢😢😢❤❤❤❤
What you call a "suppressor" seems to basically just be a capacitor connected in parallel across the motor. It would not only block RF noise kicking back into your house wiring, but would also help to reduce arcing on the motor brushes. The vacuum will work fine without the capacitor, but you'll probably get more wear on the motor over time. If you really wanted, you could just replace the capacitor with a modern one if you could look up the right value - it doesn't have to be a "special" type. All that matters is if it's the right voltage and capacitance value (in microfarads, usually).
It’s amazing how these old hoovers keep running long after the modern crap has expired
💙 the colour!
I like the classic vacuum cleaners nice video
Wow great unboxing, my nan had something similar when i was a Kid.
Thats like new condition
I much preferred the older metal base models like these not only for their strength but since their converter slid in from the back they didn’t tilt when pulled while using tools.
Thank you, Roger. Great video.
That vacuum is cool!
So, this machine, using technology from over 100 years ago did better than the best Dyson on that thick carpet.
Lovely Roger!!!!
Oh looks Clean the Old hoover Senior
thats a lot of watts!
lovely sounding machine
Actually came out the month I was born then.
These were great machines but because of the badly designed connection the tool were little more than useless that's why so many are found in excellent boxed condition .
I'm pretty sure this is the vacuum we had when I was a child. Except the bag was white and made from some leather-looking material.
cleans really well, but a hoover that big i cant go under my bed and really small places and wont fit in my wardrobe, so i needle the russell hobbs turbo lite stick vacuum
i recall you having a simillar colered machine a while back
My mom had a similar vacuum same hood only handle was blue too and switch was on back of handle
Good job bro
I like your videos
🏡
I can hear the differences in the amount of air being moved through the motor and i could actually see the difference on camera you can see the brushes spin up and speed up for the brief moments that you turn on the micro switch or activate or switch
I love Dyson vacuums But Hoovers are really nice They will we nice But I like Dyson
i found the older bronze coloured one had better hose suction with the side converter entry even with the machine staying at 1 speed ...withe 652 series you had to have a brand new clean bag on for decent hose suction...the power dropped the more the bag was used...I think it was stronger on the older type because it only had the cloth bag no paper insert..thats my experience anyway ...all brilliant strong classic machines though ...love them
Why not just let it run on high speed all the time? It would have better suction on the floor mode as well.
I would guess that it would only make a very small improvement, at the cost of noise, carpet wear and 55% more electricity. Almost certainly not worth it.
Hi Roger, lovely video thank you. How do you date these hoovers please? Not sure how you find this out.
Thanks
Nick
What is the deal with the whole “suppressor” thing. I don’t think we have those here in America do we?
Scott Light, my Constellation and Celebrity vacuums don’t have one. I live in 🇨🇦. Perhaps it was a British/Scottish thing.
Roger I like your videos and I like this Hoover Senior, it is the sort of vacumn I remember in some peoples homes, although we always had the Electrolux cylinder vacumns.
It would be interesting to know how much these cost in todays money. I am at a loss to understand the prices of some modern vacumns such as Dyson or the corddless one whose name escapes me that costs in excess of £700 and seems such low quality construction.
I use a Henry and am very pleased with it and enjoy using it, which is really what counts.
In the 1973 Argos catalogue this cleaner cost £28.25 which is the equivalent to £375 today using an inflation calculator.
@@ibaisaic bloody hell how currency has changed
Great Video of your new Hoover.....How many Vacuums do you have Roger and what is your favourite?
Why do u not like the suppress and remove it? I’m js curious btw love ur vids roger
What’s the difference between Hoover Senior 1909 - 1973 U. S or the E. U
Just get a X2 275 volt rated safety capacitor of around 0.33uf. cheap as chips. or get one out a scrap modern cleaner. usually small yellow box types.
You turned the belt to attach to the shaft rod in the wrong direction. Check the design of the "cover plate" for the belt & brush plate cover.
No I didn’t.
Why did you replace the light? It was working just fine.
Because LED lights don’t get hot like the traditional bulbs and last longer.
Hoover air upright vacuum unboxing and review
I have senior/ conveirtable i took put the supressor and it shut our electrisity can plese help me?
i was just wondering - was a bottom fill able to be converted to a top fill or was the fabric bag too small? ta 😁😁
Can you please do some more pneumatic videos
what's wrong with the suppressor??
That was what was looking to find out.
What’s a suppressor I never hear of them
A suppressor is pretty much a big, fat capacitor slapped across a dirty, inductive load, such as a motor, like that in a vacuum, to “suppress” any electrical noise generated and balance the load type.
I hope this makes sense.
@@huskyvacs did not know that part. My understanding is it’s really common in industrial applications where the business is charged for apparent power, not actual power.
Oh and it likely failed as you replaced the headlight which was the suppressors load with and led bulb which has no loading and a diode effect, it wouldnt had gone on the original bulb. as was designed.
Do you buy vintage hoover senior 1970
Do you have any of these for sale that you could post to ireland?
I won't be selling this and I only post to UK Mainland.
@@ibaisaic just one more question which eBay did you get your hoover galaxy’s from?
Do you have to connect any wires together once the suppressor is removed or can it just come out?
It depends on the way it’s wired in. Sometimes they can be removed easily and other times you need to reconnect wires.
@@ibaisaic Ah, I see. Thanks for you help!
