RV8 aircraft paint job is terrible!

- I had this plane painted by a 'Professional' painter. JOSE ALFARO of WIMAUMA, FL. He had this plane for 6 weeks and 5 days. It sat outside, untouched for 5 weeks. Then he stripped and painted it in a week and a
half. Didn't do ANY body work, including what her melted off with stripper.
He also painted OVER stripper that wasn't cleaned off. The worst 'Pro' job I've ever seen. I hope this helps someone else avoid a mess like this. - Авто та транспорт
Oh gosh, that’s heartbreaking! Just knowing all the efforts (not to mention the $$$) you put in to build the aircraft. 😢 I’m so sorry. I’d be livid if not enraged. I mean it’s hard to watch you point out the places. I know me making this comment doesn’t help you with the issue but I hope you find some comfort in all these comments that there is some empathy. Good Lord - the data plate too!
I hope you didn't pay him for this disaster. I thought I was gonna hear some comments from a picky aircraft owner about a couple of spot of orange peel. Instead, this truly is the most unprofessional paint job you could possibly imagine. And the guy is still advertising on Barnstormers right now. Hope you're considering suing him for all the damage he did to you aircraft.

Hi, I'm a professional painter and worked on mainly B747 and B737 for 15 years. All of this is common with dodgy painters. I feel so bad for you I had to type something. Just to add to what you have already stated, with all those issues I guarantee the whole aircraft will have poor paint adhesion. I wish you all the best with the fix and well done on calling out Jose who doesn't deserve anyone's work until he changes his ways.
You get what you paid for
Wow! That is heartbreaking. This is my worst fear, and the reason I am paying top dollar to take my RV7 to Evoke. No question one of the best shops in the country. So sorry this happened to you.
My 8 paint is 22 years old and looks immaculate now I’ve seen that flying disaster! Hope you get some sort of restitution!
Love the fastback. I would sue, and getting it away from him is the right thing to do. Good news is can be fixed, strip it, start over.
This makes me sick and is somewhat of a fear I have of when I take my bird to get painted. Everyone is such a hack nowadays. I'm sorry you had to endure this.

This is heartbreaking, all the work put into building such a great plane and to have its appearance ruined by this poor paint job. But I do have a question: What was the quote for the paint job and how did that compare to other paint shops which produce top quality results?

I'm sorry to see that. I'm afraid I would not have flown it off the airport until it was corrected, or paid a full refund.
If you have to paint that again will it be a lot slower and heavier than it was before? If so you might have to strip all the paint off and redo it again that man should give you a discount or your money back. I’m glad you called him out because now I know who not to go to for a paint job.
Wow. I don’t know how this guy is passing himself off as a painter. Hopefully, this video will be seen by enough people to put him out of business.

It off at my place I have plenty of packing tape, old magazines and a ton of rattle cans. I’ll git her done in a couple of days for a couple of bucks and I recon it will look better than that.

Did this guy have his A&P ? And I'm not sticking up for the painter but sometimes people shop for a bargain and then they get mad because they get bargain work.

What did this cost? If one gets a $8000 quote, this might be expected, even as bad as it is. And it is really bad - -it will have to be stripped and completely repainted. Buyer beware in paint shops.
There is a huge amount of labor in a good paint job.
The paint will literally fall off. Was he a professional automotive or aircraft painter? Did you ask to see his work prior to making a service contract?

He clearly didn't care.. He just decided that he had your deposit and would throw that crap on your plane and call it good. Please contact Barnstormers and forward them the video. Hopefully they will at least ban him from the site to prevent future victims. Of course go down to the courthouse and file a small claims suit for whatever the maximum is allowed. Other option is to hire an attorney just to type up a demand letter and ask to be compensated, or else..

Wow...love the colors and scheme and I love the RV 8s, but that is one lazy painter. No wet sanding or polishing and looks like he used rattle cans to do the paint job. Some nice pin striping would really make the outlines pop. I am sure a well experienced painter can fix all this and make this the beauty she is. Sorry it happened to you.

Wow that is worse than I thought. I thought you would be showing some nitpicking issues that probably wouldn’t show up on camera. That is definitely not the case. I could do a better job with rattle cans from Walmart. And I am not a professional painter. Sorry that happened to such a beautiful plane.
Came across your video and gotta say you are justified in your disappointment. I painted my cj7 in my garage and did a world better job than that. I'm not a painter and neither is this guy. Can't believe the flaws he made and let leave his shop. Sorry to see this.

I'll bet he was indignant after you came down "before he was done", and either slap-dashed it in anger or gave it to some kid for practice. You got the "FU Special".
Given the absolute lack of care, I wouldn't bother trying to remedy this with cutting and polishing. No doubt the surface prep and priming was as craptacular as the painting and will be coming off in sheets before too long.
Terrible, after a 3 to 5 year build? unacceptable...I am building an RV8 quick build...I would be furious with this work.

It gives me anxiety just watching the video. He basically stripped the plane and didn't chase with a good DA to clean it up, ,he failed to give the surface a good wash and brush (excessive Dawn detergent would have been great here), it appears that he used a CHEAP gun with improperly mixed paint, and he probably paint the surface in direct sunlight. Gosh, this is a horrible paint job even by a NOVICE or DIYer with a cheap Harbor Freight gun. I hope you got all your money back from him and the cost of stripping it back down to bare metal.

He left starbucks job after one week and decided he was going to be a painter because he saw his mom painting nails... WTF! unbelievable!

Wow dude. That’s amateur af!! I wouldn’t pay the guy a penny. Not only that, I’d probably try to sue them for getting it fixed. You can take an old dump truck to Maaco and get a better paint job than that. I would’ve been so pissed it would’ve been hard not to punch the guy.

It’s honestly not that bad, you would be surprised the stuff you can fix with a buffer, at least get ride if most of the orange peel and polish up the dry spots, as far as the stuff in the paint, and the cracks. That will need a respray
