    I think your new scheme and the paint look great. 👍
    If you said you had it done at a paint shop, I would have believed you.
    But you are famous for your penchant for perfectionism and have already won prizes for it.
    In Germany one would say that you are more papal than the pope!

    Started watching your videos, and the yearnings are returning. Retired at 70 (relatively healthy and pharmaceutical free) I am weighing another project. If I do it, it would be a very basic SD. My last projects were 2 Glasairs, then the Kitfox II, (N582DA). You have done a remarkable job.

    I like spraying with fast strokes and around 90% overlap. Easy to lay on enough paint without runs because each area gets so many light quick passes, if you need more material you can go over it a few more quick passes and won’t get runs. It’s just not the way anyone ever demonstrates to do it.

    If you ever change your mind on the roundels, you could go with an American roundel from Operation Torch. It's very similar to what you have. It's a white star on a blue disk inside of a yellow circle. The cowl would also be yellow. Other than that, it's basically the same.

    • @KitplaneEnthusiast
      @KitplaneEnthusiast Рік тому +2

      I am familiar with that roundel. I did consider using it to keep this a U.S. plane, but I liked the colorful RAF one better.

    Looks fantastic Mark!
    Regarding the brake-line mounting" If you want try out different ideas...
    I've been working at a project trying out different mounts/brackets that will eventually be permanently screwed in place. For prototyping and very strong temporary mounting I've been using 3M VHB heavy duty mounting tape. It's really strong stuff. I read somewhere that the mirrors on the ceiling at Chicago O'Hare are held up there with VHB tape.

    • @KitplaneEnthusiast
      @KitplaneEnthusiast Рік тому

      I used VHB tape on the tabs I used on the Cruzer gear legs to hold the brake lines. Those same tabs wouldn't work as well on the SD because the gear and the brake lines are curved. You're right tho-that VHB tape is amazing!

    • @Know-Way
      @Know-Way Рік тому

      @@KitplaneEnthusiast can you drill and tap the gear legs, or would that create a point for a crack to form from the normal flex of the gear?

    • @KitplaneEnthusiast
      @KitplaneEnthusiast Рік тому +1

      @@Know-Way I don’t know. If I can, then I can easily come up with a nice way to secure the brake lines. I plan on calling Grove and asking them if it’s ok to drill a hole in the gear.

    11:39 Internal brake line routing would make for a clean install but I'm wondering if there's a rule for inspection that may prevent internal routing use on aircraft. I have something to see if I can find now. I've been slipping thin wall tubing through bicycle frames I've been making to just about eliminate cables getting snagged and it provides better aerodynamics as a bonus if you choose carefully your locations. For industrial automation I've been hiding cable in structures since 1982 and have yet to have a conductor cable damaged.
    Just a thought...

    You can paint my plane any day. BTW are you gonna replace the USAF marking on the battery tray with a rondel?

    • @KitplaneEnthusiast
      @KitplaneEnthusiast Рік тому +10

      No. Because this airplane is part of a combined unit in the 750th Aerial Surveillance Sq. in North Africa (750th ASS). On a very daring mission to gather intelligence on Rommel's whereabouts, the battery tray broke. When it was brought back to the maintenance shop, they didn't have any new ones in stock, so they took one off of one of the U.S. planes and used it!

    I always enjoy your videos and celebrating with your progress. I have a couple of paint jobs ahead of me and listen carefully to your observations. My question for the day is why on the brake calipers didn't you use 45 degree fittings on both the caliper and the line. You are using flexible line, so movement shouldn't be an issue. Just wondering?? Thanks for your insight into the whole process.

    • @KitplaneEnthusiast
      @KitplaneEnthusiast Рік тому

      I actually don't remember if there was a reason-I built these a long time ago. Remember-there's always 10 different ways to do the same thing. As far as I can tell, using two 45's would work just as well.

    Big fan of the channel. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but how did you go about painting the interior? I saw a video of you priming the exterior of the fuselage but the interior seemed to be unpainted at that time, with all of your avionics and controls wrapped.
    I'm also thinking of building a 750SD, and the thing that I am probably the most worried about, aside from the time required, is the paint.
