    For 2 years my son has been asking to build a tree house. Well, we are in a new neighborhood and there are no trees. I told him the trees will take years to grow large enough for a tree house. We couldn't wait for the trees to grow so we decided to spin it a bit. This is really a play set but if you look hard enough, there is a tiny crape myrtle tree behind it. To my son, that is good enough and it's the best "Tree House" ever!
    We spent 2 weekends to design, fetch materials and put it all together. This tree house play set is made from treated lumber. I do have thoughts of stain seal on it but it also kinda looks fine like it is. Is it worth another 3 hours to stain it?
    What I learned after building this:
    1. Bolts are expensive.
    2. It's better to notch posts some so you don't rely on bolt shear strength. It works fine here but for a substantial deck building you should look up notching.
    3. On paper, this tree house looked a lot smaller.
    4. Kids need to get involved in creativity and making projects become reality. They learn that any idea or dream they have can come true if they work at it.

    What are the dimensions to build one like this?

      Hey Roy, take a look at the plans on my website here. brandontran.com/custom-tree-house-play-set - I drew these by hand and included as much detail as I could. I hope it helps. Cheers!

    What is the depth? I know it’s 6ft wide but is it a 6ft square for the house?

    • @BrandonTran
      @BrandonTran  Рік тому

      Hi Nicole! The depth was roughly 4 feet. That was plenty of space for the kids :) I hope that helps!

      Hi Brian! The bottom of the beam is at 6’ 2” from the ground. I built the A frame for the right side and that’s just where it landed.

    What bolts and screws did you use?

    • @BrandonTran

      Zinc coated bolts with washers and nuts. I did use lag bolts for the rails. This is a really old one.

    Are the posts for the playhouse area cemented in?

    • @BrandonTran
      @BrandonTran  2 роки тому

      Hi Rob B! No, they are not cemented in. You could do that if you needed extra security. The play set kits do not require cementing either. In a tornado it will fly just like all of the other play sets. But normal high winds it isn't going anywhere.

    I don’t see side dimensions of your set. How deep is it? How high are the platforms?

    • @BrandonTran
      @BrandonTran  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kelly, The structure is 4ft Deep. The high platform is 48". The low platform is 42". It was built to fit the slide. The coolwave slide fits a platform height of 42" to 48". So anything in that range would suffice. You could in theory just go with 1 height of 48". I just varied it for fun and depth for the kids.

    😃 how much?

    • @BrandonTran
      @BrandonTran  2 роки тому +1

      Heyo Emilio, Oh wow I didn't include that. my bad. This cost a total of $800 in 2018. With the material prices being higher, have a feeling it's going to cost more now days. Maybe 25% more. It would be amazing if you had access to some recycled boards or something. Best of luck!
