Look at all you "forward thinking" scotch reviewers......maybe we need to start thinking like that.....I will suggest we pour a dram and talk about it the next time we get together...hahaha!! LOL ~Mark
It's not quite comparable to a 100 scale. We a 4 "finger" scale. In other words, if it's really crackin' then it's a 4 as we'd love to have a 4 finger pour of it, but likewise, if it's swill then it would be a 1 or less as we'd not want much if any! Sure it could be better as that doesn't give much range for small differences, but we're not taking ourselves too seriously either. We want to help folks out with their scotch purchases and explorations as well as trying to keep an educating dialogue going. Well also to have fun! :-) Cheers, ~Mark
There was plenty of Ed 1. I used to see tons of it in online auctions. Then the whole thing went out of control because people were desperate for a higher strength Macallan.. That and the fact that people wet themselves about Macallan for some reason. I've only had the Ed 2 which I enjoyed but thought was too expensive for what it was. I'm not buying any more of this range. 'The old with the new' is just Macallan marketing bullshit which has accompanied every Edition thus far. I used to drink Macallan in the late 80's when it really was Macallan. They are a top distillery but they are not the Holy Grail and really aren't worth it any more. Cracking good review guys. Cheers. WT
Welsh Toro Ive still not bought any macallan seems overhyped to me although I have tried the macallan Gold in a bar and thought it wasn't bad. They all seem to be overpriced I can get lots of decent stuff for less than £60.
Gary, I wouldn't disagree with you on their pricing! I personally find that Macallan really thinks highly of their products. Not to say I don't, but maybe not quite as much as they do.... We do respect them and accept that they are extremely popular and for reason, but also don't just "wet ourselves" about them..hahah!Thanks for chiming in! ~Mark
I really like this bottle. I have an Edition No. 1 but no plans on opening it anytime soon. I have tried the 2 and 3 but I like this one just a little more. Great review!
I would have been disappointed if you didn't have an Edition 1 lol. I think the 2 may have edged this one out for me, but it is a good bottle and I am glad we have it. See you tomorrow. -Shawn
That's what I did as soon as I saw that number one going for a thousand and the number 2 for 500 I knew they were out orlo in numbers around the world .... so I went ahead and bought everyone I found
Agree with a strong 3. I feel it's more like a Glenfarclas, Glendronach than a Macallan and i really like it. Not a fan of macallan but #4 really get me what a want. Deep fruit sherry mature and complex whisky. i get a bit of Macallan spice but not predominant. Just finished my sample and it's definitely a buy who gonna go with my #2 in my collection.
I have a full bottle of the 3 and the 4 and 5 bottles of the number 2 and a half a bottle of the number one I saw the number 1 recently online they are going for a thousand bucks each and the number twos are already going for 500
~SMH.... I really wish I'd tried some of the 1.....but I just bought a bottle of the 2 here locally for $99.99 USD. I guess I need to go clear out that store? ~Mark
Well unfortunately, I was sniped in the last second on the auction. I guess I should have upped my max bid, but I really thought we'd get it for under a Million....oh well, I guess next time right? LOL... ~Mark
The Mac 2 is the best and the Mac is not far behind...It took me a while to recognize the Mac 4 for its goodness...You got to take your time with this one
Another great video.Dont think im going after this one. Plus i cant stand macallan, the sulfur is so off putting. I know u say its alot less on this one but just cant stand it at all. Dont understand how people get past the sulfur to enjoy macallan . Great review
Well that sucks...but as you mentioned thankfully only on this label! So, easy enough....stay away right. And that's cool too, because there are soooooo many others out there! ~Mark
Great Review boys! We still have all four bottles, and need to do a side by side. We both really liked this one.
Scotch Test Dummies ya I did my comparison video that did fairly well. I need to edit it down a bit.

I drank a bottle of this and enjoyed it enough to buy a backup.
It's pretty darn good. I nabbed a back up of the ed. 2! ~Mark
Really looking forward to trying this! How does your scoring system work? 2.75/4... is that equivalent to 68.75/100?

@@Scotch4Dummies I see. That's cool!
Was going to review this this week. Glad I didn’t. Probably best to spread it out. Good one boys. Cheers.
strike while the iron is hot!
Make it a Mac 4 fest!
Aqvavitae lol
Have to agree.....push that review out there Rob!!! ~Mark
You guys have, what I feel, is the BEST UA-cam channel, reviewing scotch. Very welcoming, and not pretentious like so many other channels out there 😊
Thanks Surprise! We just enjoy scotch and sharing it with others.

Picked up a bottle today.

I love #4 followed by 3 and 2. Have not tried 1. Did not like 5 and 6.
I have bottles of this and would agree it's good slightly better than average. YOU guys need to try Longmorn 16 !!!
It's on the list, ;-)
~Mark
I second Chad's recommendation. Just be in the mood for a nice savory/spicy dram when you go in.

Great Job Guys! I’m glad you like it!! You’re worth it!
Bourbon Shenanigans generous gift Mike! 👍
Awesome video guys!
Thanks MMC!
Really fruity and flavorful! Enjoyable after dinner dram! Cheer's

you guys should do a blind taste test between the 3 editions.
Agreed, tough part is we drink our scotch...so keeping editions around long enough to do comparison with future ones is really hard...hahah! ~Mark

When's the Valerio Adami review coming guys?

Those pesky snipers

Dont add water. Let it sit for minimum of 12 min
Found this one a bit more subdued than the others.
I can see that Rob, although 2 is still my favorite...well, never got a chance to sample the 1...so I'm sticking with 2! ~Mark

I can totally relate as I'm super sensitive to that sulfury smell too. But luckily for me it doesn't translate to the palate.
I get it,
~Mark
Well unfortunately for me it's even worse on the palate then it is on the nose. Luckily Macallan is the only one that I get the sulfur on.
