Oh, that poor pine cone! I think Jackie brought it to the nest as a toy and Spirit knew just what to do with it. Then pranced around, showing off those magnificent wings! This was a great video, thanks Cali.
I think it is learning how to catch and bite its prey, which is the instinct of an eagle.
Love how Mom (or Dad) faces the opposite way like: “That’s right, baby. Play and be QUIET.” Lol Every parent can relate

It’s like the parents know at this point that they have kept their baby warm, fed, & protected! All they have to do now is continue for a little longer & then watch their baby go off on it’s own! And Jackie & Shadow will be real Empty nesters! Spirit is sooo big, after looking back at Stormy & Simba, I think Spirit is a strong, brave, fierce female like their momma!! 🤗
Spirit changes more everyday....the dark beak is changing colour as are the feathers and feet .....the wing exercises are getting stronger in anticipation of flight too❗🦅🦅🦅❤

I know we can't be positive without testing but I'm almost sure Spirit is female just by the size of her.

I noticed all the barrier that thunder worked so hard on is mostly gone to the right of the nest. Spirit is rambunctious little girl.

Mother nature, and it can be cruel at times..
Young eagles from wild nests develop their hunting skills on their own, but spend considerable time after they fledge "watching their parents"and undoubtedly learning by watching what the adults do.
The actual skills involved are learned by trial and error, I'm sure.
Wow, I'd be up in the night trying to cast a pellet, too, if I had tried to eat that much roughage.

How long will Spirit be able to stay with mom and dad? I assume at some point, they will chase him/her out of their territory?
Not an expert but i think they will continue to feed and protect Spirit for a few months after fledging before he or she leaves the territory
