    Moving the cabin up close to the field is a great idea. Changing the level of soil underneath the crown of a tree, even just 1 inch up or down, can kill a tree. The root system was built at the best depth for the tree to thrive and survive. Thanks for another great video!

    Chris your comment about the leaves on the trees is also the same over here in the UK, where I live you can normally by now see all the tree branches in the woods I overlook. There are still many with leaves on, plus in my garden I have a few roses, which normally by the end of October stop flowering, it's the 30th Nov today and they are still flowering and have lots of buds waiting to flower.

    That's a great demonstration of the LD18 bucket and thumb. I can think of no other excavator anywhere close to the size of your 220 that could grab those fine roots. A big 'me too' vote for brining Charlie up to soil cement the roads out to the cabins. I mean having a good secure road is a bonus, but the main thing is that it will make great content. When he comes, get him to stop work for 20 minutes and tell us some stories about how he saved himself using that pistol he caries. 😉

    Already getting the picture in my mind, Man, I think it's going to look really, really nice in there Chris !! What kind of things are you going to have in the cabins ?? Jacuzzi, Wi-Fi, TV's, pool tables, ect. ?? Would be nice to come some day after they are done and spend a weekend or something like that, meet you ,and do some sight seeing around your area. We went a couple months back to the Smoky Mountains, and stayed in between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg in one of the rental cabins up in there, and it had pool table upstairs and videogame , jacuzzi on back deck. Was just wondering how fancy you are gonna go with yours ?? I know whatever you end up doing it's going to be nice !! I think you have a really beautiful place there already.... But, Great as always Chris, Have a Great Evening , And, On too the Next !! Got to go check the weather !! May get some Bad Storms here tonight in Western Ky ??? Going to have to be careful how you dig your footings if you get too close to those oaks, normally it is about 1/3 past the drip line farther. My buddy did everything he could to save 2 oak trees on his driveway and in the yard when he built his home; 6 years later and they both died, could not handle the stresses of what construction did near them. It is a shame. Sometimes you can get lucky, though.

    Fixed up my muddy road in the woods by putting down some geotextile after grading flat and putting about 6 inches of gravel (12 inches is better). Did this 0ver 35 years ago, have had all kinds of trucks , triaxle loaded dump trucks, loaded logging trucks and such. It has held up well and is good for all seasons. This is in Massachusetts. This particular soil turns to like quicksand when the frost is going out of the ground. The geo textile and gravel makes it a good road. Good luck with whatever way you want to fix it up. Keep up the good work.

  • @IR-nq4qv
    @IR-nq4qv Рік тому +1

    Hey Chris,
    What if you could either take dirt from somewhere else to raise the cabin lot elevation say 4 feet higher or just build the cabin on top of a 4 foot knee wall with a crawl space?
    For an example: I borrowed this info from the interwebs-
    If the top of the pipe where the sewer leaves the house is 3.75 feet as estimated using a tripod and the distance to the septic tank inlet is 20 feet, the top of a 4-inch diameter PVC sewer pipe should show an elevation difference of at least 2.5 inches since the minimum drop in the pipe to ensure sewage flows through the pipe is 1 inch per each 8-foot pipe section. The top of the pipe at the septic tank will be at a lower elevation than the rod reading. Two and a half inches is equivalent to a little over 0.2 feet. So the rod reading needs to be at least 3.75 feet plus 0.2 feet, or 3.95 feet. If it’s not, the pipe does not have the proper slope to deliver sewage to the tank. If you were troubleshooting a system for periodic blockages, this would be a good indicator that the problem lies with pipe installation.
    Would this work or help in your case? I was thinking a well behind the house on the pond side and the cleanout for the septic on the opposite end / side of the driveway with the proper grade would be more convenient, accessible plus you wouldn't have to dig as deep in front to get the slope for proper drainage? Your thoughts?
    BTW ;
    If this guest cabin is for me I'm gonna need something small so that the hike to the fridge is short and I don't have to listen to a vacuum cleaner for an hour.

    Don’t get Charlie to come do that because it’s gonna expensive. Go to your cement yards and ask them if you could off there washout. I’m in LA and I haul off the washout in my area and it’s free. Use that for your base even the big ass chunks just walk them in the ground and top it limestone or leave it like that. I can’t tell you how many roads I’ve put it on. It’s free and it holds up better than stone. You won’t regret it I promise you that.

    Really enjoy your videos! I don't remember hearing why you're building the cabins, but I see the comment that they are going to be vacation rentals. I know everyone seems to love N. C.. I lived in Swannanoa, just outside Black Mountain for many years; not sure what area you live in. Don't worry have any plans on coming to visit! LoL

    Country roads take me home to the place I belong... West Virginia, Mountain Mama..... etc.
