  • WHILE IN WALMART A FEW WEEKS AGO, I CAME ACROSS THE EXPERT GRILL 22 INCH WEBER KETTLE. I INSPECTED THIS GRILL AND FOUND IT WAS SOMETHING I NEEDED TO DIG INTO MORE. I PURCHASED IT, BROUGHT IT HOME AND I DID THE UNBOXING. I DO A VERY DETAILED COMPARISON BETWEEN THE EXPERT GRILL SUPERIOR 22 INCH KETTLE, AND THE 22 INCH WEBER KETTLE. THIS VIDEO MAY BE LONG, HOWEVER IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT. I ALSO DO AN UPDATE ON THE OKLAHOMA JOES BRONCO. CAN THE WEBER KETTLE 22 INCH BE DETHRONED? WATCH THIS. Hot off the presses!!!! I just got off the phone with WEBER AGAIN. I have been getting comments that Weber is made in China. Here is the up-to-date information.
The Weber Genesis 2 and Spirit 2 are made in China.
The discontinued red kettle was made in China.
Everything else is made in the United States, and assembled in Illinois. Since this video is not about the Weber Genesis or spirit, the information is 100% accurate. Thank you

Great review. Very simple fix for the gap in the bottom ash bucket on the Expert Grill. I simply put a couple of washers under the mounting plates so the hooks mount up higher. The bucket now sits perfectly flush with no gap. I bought mine at Walmart on clearance for $49.00. I had to hammer out a few dents and clean up some rust, but it’s as good as new. I wouldn’t trade for the more expensive Weber.

I picked up an expert grill for $36 at Walmart. Already have a Weber kettle. The expert grill cooks just as good. I know people are complaining about the air gap. But if your food comes out wrong on the expert, it’s not the grill! Even with its imperfections. Maybe i got lucky. But if i didn’t have my Weber and only had this i would be totally fine. I do love my Weber. But if you actually start using the expert you’ll be fine. Let’s not get too cute with these things. If you know what you’re doing you’ll be fine with either one.

We bought the Expert Grill a few months ago over the Weber. You can adjust the gap on the bottom easily, and, IMO, the system is a TON better than the tip and pinch on the Weber. Cooking on it is great, the gauge is accurate on the grill, and I have been able to set and maintain temp with it for hours at a time. The charcoal baskets are holding up well, and it cooks great! Works great as a smoker too, offset cooking is easy to set up and maintain, and the two baskets are great since you can set the meat in the middle and have heat on both sides if you like. Also, the handle is high enough that you do not feel the heat on your skin when removing it, even with the charcoal blasting heat at 500+ in the kettle. I say try it, it appears well built to me and it cooks good! Why not save a hundred bucks and get a grill that, if maintained, will last for years.

I always thought Weber grills were just a gimmick and always bought the cheapest grill I could find. Nope! Weber grills really are the best, even at the (slightly) higher price point. You buy one Weber grill and you will use it year after year and probably pass it on to your child. I've had more of those cheap Mallwart grills than I can count on one hand and neither was worth the money I spent on them. I now have a variety of Weber grills and even some that are older than me that still cook perfectly. You can even buy a used Weber for less than $100 and it'll still be a better deal than a new cheapy grill at the big box stores.

Question on the Expert Grill. I've looked at this video a few times and I think I figured out a viable mod for the catch can to make it a lot more airtight.
I see that the three hooks that hold the catch can are held by a nut and a bolt (from what I can see).
So, what can be done (from what I can tell) is to get longer bolts, more nuts and washers. Then remove the old nuts/bolt and hooks. Install the longer bolts along with the nuts and a washer (or two or three). Then reinstall the hook over top of these nuts where the longer bolt is pertruding and then screw on the final nut. That should raise the hooks internally enough to close that gap quite a bit.
Am I oversimplifying this? I realize since I have never seen one in person, I can't exactly understand all of the nuances, but that is what I see from what you are showing. I'm very interested in this grill due to the oval shape. I currently have a Megamaster Charcoal Kettle Grill and I absolutely love it (I offset smoke on it all the time), but been kicking around the idea of picking up this grill due to the dome shape so that I can perhaps smoke some beer can chicken.
    Thoughts on the mod?

Me personally I like the expert grill. The $20 grill from Walmart, I I have two of them hopefully to get two more. I use them like burners on the stove. The one that you’re reviewing kinda egg shaped I think for better smoking ability. At my Walmart it’s about $97.00 Weber on the other hand is about $165.00. In the past my $20.00 grills only lasted about 3yrs, but I live north of the Mason-Dixon line were we get a lot of snow and ice rainy day. My $20.00 grills use to come with hinges it seems like they put the money in to packaging. One more thing Char broiler makes a similar to the Expert Grill 22" Superior Kettle Grill. Very nice comparison. I've always wondered about the Walmart grills. From all your negatives, the ash pan gap is the one thing stopping me from possibly getting one. I was wondering if the SNS would fit (not that I'd buy one) but if it didn't and I wanted something like that I'd use the Expert Grill charcoal baskets and make Daddy Dutch's "bro 'n sear."

Paul Taurone I hope that they have corrected the problems pointed out in this video. Overall the main unit seems to be thick metal and hopefully can last. Keep an eye on them leg brackets on the inside, if you start to see signs of rust pull them out and replace with stainless steel. Like anything, if you take care of it, it will last. Wal-Mart expert 22" grill is a great value. I've owned several Weber grills through the year's. So what that the tires are plastic, it's a grill made for sitting still and stable. Solid heavy steel and stainless steel construction. Your BBQ will taste the same with either grill. So why buy the expert grill? Because at Lowe's the same quality grill with temp. Gauge on the lid was $165. The expert grill was $84 at Walmart. Note, when you assemble the legs you'll see ea. Leg marked 1-4 it's stamped in the steel you just have to look on the side of the leg. Assembly was easy, use a med. Sz. Lock wrench and med. Phillips driver and your good to go.

Dunno, my experience was different re: the ash catcher- mine fits snug, no gap. At all. Additionally, the removal of the ash catcher? Again, user dependent, but I find it quite simple- it's a "three point contact" operation, by "eyeeballing" simply kinda align the teeth to the hooks prior, insert, and drop the pan in. I looked again at your struggles at the 15:10 mark and smiled as my experience was nothing like this. Again, depends on the user and there may be slight variances per unit in fit and finish that affect this, but I'm just speculating. All said, it's horses for courses, your mileage may vary, but I didn't find enough difference in quality and product to justify $219 for the base Weber kettle vs the $89 I paid for this grill. Others may feel differently, I'm sure both will offer satisfactory results

Yup. Weber wins. Expert’s biggest problem has always been air control... and they’re cheap AF. All stamped sheet metal & cheap coating. Wait till you fire it up. Smoke from every crevice. Aluminum foil is your friend here, ( my experts are covered in it). Tip: be VERY careful tightening the air vent. The paper-thin metal will warp and you’ll get even less air control.

I bought this Grill Master. It is a Wal-Mart brand or made just for Wal-Mart. If Sam was still running the show it would have been made in the USA. Soon as he passed away the kids took over and the entire made in the USA went out the window. They were more interested in profit then helping the American economy. I have 3 major issues with it.
    1. The ash can is a pain to work at first. I got used to it but it's easy to knock off the pegs and sometimes you don't notice. Then there is the airflow issue as you said.
    2. The vent on top doesn't seal very well. It slows the heat from leaving but not that well. I'm hoping over time the build up around it will help it seal.
    3. Because of the venting issue it goes through charcoal allot faster than even my Charbroil did. If I'm doing ribs, I have to get the second charcoal basket going on another grill then switch them out. What a pain! Since the kettle is taller and deeper cooking burgers and dogs you have to use more charcoal than you should then the extra burns up because you can't shut off the air flow.
The tall handle does keep you from the heat but it is awkward to handle due to it being so tall.
And that is my 2 cents or more! lol
Great review! You got a new subscriber and looking forward to more. I'll be going back and checking out your other videos. Always looking for other's ways of grillin!

Great review! Some things I noticed. With the exhaust vent you could probably bend the stop tab or just cut it so it closes all the way. The expert grill does have a deeper bowl for more charcoal but the food grate sits at the very top of bowl where as the Weber sits maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches below the lip of the bowl. I actually like the air intake design but not sealing to the bowl is a major no go ( maybe some kind of grill gasket could make up the difference). All in all for 97$ I think I'd stick with the Weber

I put a BGE lid Gasket around the ash pot/ air intake and it seems a lot better now. I also cut down a Grill Stone to fit. I will be doing a cook on it soon. Thanks for the support and watching Brother

Damn straight the "Made in the USA" means something to me! I've had my Wever kettle for almost 20 years and besides replacing the charcoal and food grates every couple years, it's still the grill I purchased that many years ago. I consider those items to be like brake pads. You'll have to replace them on a routine maintenance schedule. Great review though

Joe Ovel now there is a difference between the 2. I pinned my comment of the up to date information I got from Weber. The Expert Grill is Awesome for Hot n Fast cooks, not so much for low n slow. Weber is 22.5 inches, as where Expert grill is 22, so most accessories won’t fit the Expert Grill.
Side note: most Accessories are gimmicks, so don’t waste your money, especially the Slow N Sear. IMHO!!
The expert grill just needs a few things to make it a Great smoker. I do like the density of the metal on it though. I will always take someone’s word until they are proven to be a liar, besides a lot of manufacturing jobs have come back to the USA, including Weber. Thanks for the support and watching

Another awesome show Meat. I'll stick with Weber, that said and I could be mistaken but I thought Weber was sold a few years back and is now made overseas... Like I said I could be mistaken. Anyhow. Great show as usual. Enjoy
